The Wimberley Head is a special, gimbal-type tripod head for large telephoto lenses from 300mm or bigger. The idea is to have the axes of rotation of the head running through the center of gravity of the lens-camera system, so it can be handled without effort in a fluid movement. The head incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and an adjustable platform to perfectly balance your lens. Thus, even the heaviest lens becomes practically weightless - it could be moved around with a single finger, and when you let go of it, it will remain in the same position where you have stopped. Lobed, rubber-coated knobs for adjusting friction in horizontal and vertical motion are on the same side of the head, so they can be comfortably operated with one hand, and even with thick gloves.
The head is manufactured from cast aluminium and stainless steel, it is very sturdy and comparatively light. The panning base has absolutely no play, even when the head is unlocked.
