The Flexshooter Mini – the all-rounder!

I'll explain below how I use the Flexshooter Mini Lever. Since the Flexshooter was introduced, I've used these heads almost exclusively for mobile applications on my photo tours. In particular, the all-round capabilities and compact design with low weight make the Flexshooter my most frequently used tripod head. 

The Flexshooter uses a bidirectional lever clamp that accommodates almost all ARCA-style plates. I love the lever lock; it's incredibly quick to use compared to the screw-type version and also gives me additional security. When the lever is moved to the clamping position, the inserted clamp profile can no longer tip out of the jaws.

I use the Flexshooter on the Leofoto MPQ-405C carbon monopod with a large extension height and very good load capacity.

Why a tripod head on the monopod?

In some situations, you want a steeper angle of view when taking photos. Eventually, I can no longer achieve this by tilting the monopod. A conventional one-way head would solve the problem. However, since I'm already using the Flexshooter Mini, this replaces the one-way head. Although... "replaces" isn't quite the right word. The Flexshooter's excellent 2-way tilt functionality is far superior to a standard one-way head, especially when used with telephoto lenses. When correctly adjusted, the Flexshooter behaves like a gimbal head... the lens can simply be released in the desired position and will then remain in place without any controls being operated. This eliminates the possibility of accidental tilting of the lens and also eliminates the painful risk of pinching fingers (which I've unfortunately experienced a few times myself).

The only thing I improved was the stability of the monopod with the ingenious Leofoto SC-70 tripod base, which serves as both a swivel and tilt joint at the base, as well as a damping element and an extended support surface. This base replaces the Monostat (discontinued) base, which has been the undisputed leader in our product range for years, and can be considered a further development.

The lever clamp works especially well for me on a monopod. With a screw clamp, attaching heavy lenses becomes a delicate task, but the lever clamp makes this process a breeze. After all, you only have two hands...

And because I don't just use the Flexshooter on a monopod, I also mounted an ultra-practical coupling system for tripod heads between the monopod and the head. This completely eliminates the annoying screwing when switching heads between tripods.

For ground-level shots, whether on the beach or in a camouflage hide, I use the Flexshooter on our "Gertrud" ground pod. 

The extra-low perspective rewards me with exciting shots at eye level with my subjects. 

I often go to the Baltic Sea during bird migration to photograph waders on the beach. The ground pod is a great help for this. I can slide the lens in front of me while lying on my stomach, and the Flexshooter allows me to tilt and pan weightlessly, even fully level if I want.

This only really works with cameras that have a flip-up display. 

I used to use an angled view finder for this... 

I really like the way I get images when I use the low perspective. Moreover, many animals behave much more intimately when the photographer dives deep... 

When I'm photographing meadow waders in the ground photoblind, the ground tripod is just as useful. It takes up very little space and replaces a bulky tripod... With this type of photography, you can easily use an external monitor, since you're protected from the weather in the camouflage tent, and the bright monitor isn't visible from the outside.
