Grainger 1/4" UNC nut 1/4" UNC wing nut

Grainger 1/4" UNC nut & 1/4" UNC wing nut, the small duo for reliable connections

With the Grainger 1/4" UNC nut and the 1/4" UNC wing nut, you’re bringing a pretty low-key but extremely practical set into your workshop – nothing to show off on social media, but exactly what you want to rely on in everyday use. Both components are designed for the classic 1/4" UNC right-hand thread and are therefore ideal when you work with inch threads in mechanical engineering, model making, jigs, or repair work.

1/4" UNC hex nut, robust, precise, and suitable for everyday use

The 1/4" UNC hex nut is matched to a 1/4" UNC right-hand thread and can be tightened cleanly with standard inch tools. Thanks to its hex shape, you can grip it securely with an open-end wrench, ring spanner, or socket, even when space is tight or when you’re, hand on heart, not working at a perfect 90° angle.

It is made from 18-8 stainless steel. In practice, this means high corrosion resistance, stable mechanical properties, and a surface that doesn’t immediately take offense when moisture, oil, or mild chemicals come into play. This material really shows its strengths in permanent bolted connections where you don’t want to constantly retighten or replace parts.

1/4" UNC wing nut, tool-free tightening in no time

The 1/4" UNC wing nut with 1/4" UNC right-hand thread is your tool when you don’t have one at hand. Thanks to the two wings, you can tighten and loosen it with your fingers – quickly, intuitively, and without much fiddling. It’s ideal for connections you need to undo regularly, such as on covers, brackets, temporary setups, or projects where you simply want to stay flexible.

Here too, 18-8 stainless steel is used. This ensures that the wing nut retains its shape and doesn’t immediately start to rust, even with frequent use outdoors in the garden, in the workshop, or in production environments. Especially when you use it in places you handle often, that’s a real plus.

Additional 1/4" UNC variants, hex, self-locking, and knurled for more grip

Around the 1/4" UNC thread there is a whole family of matching nuts that complement each other perfectly depending on the application. The classic 1/4" UNC hex nut with right-hand thread is available in different material versions, for example as a variant made of blackened steel. This blackened version is interesting if you prefer a more discreet, dark look and at the same time are looking for a robust, mechanically resilient nut.

For applications where nothing must come loose on its own, the 1/4" UNC hex nut with nylon insert comes into play. It is also matched to the 1/4" UNC right-hand thread and is made of 18-8 stainless steel. The integrated nylon insert acts as a self-locking element and prevents the nut from unintentionally loosening due to vibrations or recurring loads. This self-locking function is a real safety gain, especially on moving machines, devices, or constructions that are in continuous operation.

If you prefer to work by hand and want a particularly grippy surface, the 1/4" UNC knurled nut type 1 is of interest. It also relies on a 1/4" UNC right-hand thread and is made of 18-8 stainless steel. The knurling ensures that you can grip the nut securely even with slightly oily fingers or gloves. With a knurl height of 6.35 mm and a base height of 6.35 mm, you get a total height of 12.7 mm – compact enough to stay out of the way, but large enough to hold comfortably.

The knurl diameter of 19.05 mm and the base diameter of 12.7 mm provide a stable contact surface and at the same time sufficient area to grip. This is particularly practical when you make recurring adjustments, for example on jigs, stops, or brackets where you deliberately want to do without tools.

1/4" UNC thread, compatible, versatile, and proven

All the nuts mentioned consistently use the 1/4" UNC right-hand thread. This coarse inch thread is widely used in the technical field and is frequently found in machines, devices, brackets, and industrial environments. This allows you to combine the hex nuts, the wing nut, the self-locking nut with nylon insert, and the knurled nut flexibly and adapt them to existing 1/4" UNC screws, bolts, or studs.

This creates a continuous, well-coordinated system: depending on your needs, you use a classic hex nut for permanently fixed connections, a self-locking variant for safety-relevant points, a knurled nut for quick manual adjustments, or the wing nut for particularly frequent loosening and tightening without tools. Everything is based on the same 1/4" UNC right-hand thread, which makes planning and everyday use significantly easier for you.
