When you look through the viewfinder and light comes in from the side, it’s not only annoying, it also costs you precision. That’s exactly where the Hoodman HoodEye eyecup comes in: it effectively shields the viewfinder from stray light so you get a visibly more brilliant, higher-contrast viewfinder image. And yes, that makes a difference in practice, especially when focusing manually or when you really want to frame your shot precisely.

This variant is the long version with an 18 mm eyepiece and is specifically designed for people who wear glasses. The extra-large eyepiece rests more comfortably against the lens of your glasses, without you having to constantly readjust your position. Not “it kind of works”, but simply more relaxed, even when you’re shooting for longer stretches.

Precisely fitted for selected Canon EOS DSLR cameras

The eyecup is designed for Canon cameras and fits, among others, the following DSLR models: Canon EOS 6D, Canon EOS 6D Mark II, Canon EOS 5D, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, and Canon EOS 1100D. Especially with these bodies, a clean, well-shielded viewfinder image is worth its weight in gold, because you can really use the viewfinder as a reliable control tool instead of fighting reflections.

Quick installation, secure fit, no fiddling

Installation is pleasantly straightforward: you simply slide the HoodEye onto the clamping profile. A special self-locking quick-release mechanism ensures a firm and secure fit on the camera. It holds up in everyday use, even if you frequently bring the camera up to your eye and take it down again. (For Nikon round eyepieces, the corresponding model is screwed on; here with the Canon version, it is slid on with a quick-release clamp.)

Depending on the model, the quick-release clamp or screw thread and the inner ring of the viewfinder are made of metal or plastic. The actual cup is made of rubber, a material that feels comfortable against the eye while also sealing well.

Right or left, just the way you work

Nicely solved: the rubber cup is rotatable. This makes the HoodEYE eyecup suitable for viewing with either the right or left eye. If you switch from time to time or simply prefer a particular posture, you don’t have to change your habits; you just rotate it briefly and you’re set.

Two versions, this one for eyeglass wearers

Hoodman offers the eyecup in two versions. There is the standard version (H-EYEC18L) and the version optimized for eyeglass wearers (H-EYEC18L G) with an extra-large eyepiece. This product is the long version for eyeglass wearers, exactly the one that simply fits better when you’re wearing glasses.
