Kirk BL-Z8 L-bracket for Nikon Z8 with QD mount
Kirk BL-Z8 L-bracket for Nikon Z8, specially developed for this camera
With the Kirk BL-Z8 you get an L-bracket that is tailored to the Nikon Z8 from the ground up – not some half-fitting compromise, but truly custom-designed for this mirrorless Nikon Z camera. The contour of the bracket fits the camera body like a glove, so the Z8 sits solidly and twist-proof, even when a heavy telephoto lens or a large video rig is involved. Nothing wobbles, nothing creaks, nothing slips when you clamp the camera to the tripod in portrait or landscape orientation.
Because the L-bracket is neither universal nor modular, Kirk was able to very consistently optimize the geometry for the Nikon Z8: you retain full access to the AF button, the controls remain easy to reach, and the base plate doesn’t block any doors or ports. The integrated slotted hole allows you to shift the bracket sideways on the camera body, giving you noticeably more leeway when balancing on the tripod head or gimbal.
Robust 6061-T6 aluminum, made in the USA
The BL-Z8 is made from 6061-T6 aluminum, a material that is popular in aircraft construction for good reason. It is lightweight, rigid, and does not warp quickly even with frequent use. At only about 96 g, the L-bracket remains pleasantly unobtrusive in your bag, yet in daily use it provides exactly the solidity you need for long shoots or when traveling. The surface is black anodized, which not only looks classy but also protects against scratches and corrosion.
You can tell that the L-bracket is made in the USA by the clean milled edges, the precise fit, and those small details that you often only notice once you have the piece in your hand: the threaded hole on the underside is cleanly cut (1 x 1/4" UNC photo thread), the integrated hex key sits securely in its holder and is still quickly at hand when you need to tighten something on the go. No rummaging in your backpack, no fiddling with loose tools.
Arca-style compatible, seamlessly integrable into your quick-release system
The Kirk BL-Z8 is fully Arca-style compatible and therefore integrates directly into common quick-release systems. The clamping profile fits Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps (according to the manufacturer) and works just as reliably with Wimberley clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, and Kirk clamps. If you already use an existing system, you can usually just clamp in the L-bracket and get started without having to completely rebuild your setup.
For additional ARCA-compatible components and matching quick-release clamps, you’ll find a selection under ARCA compatible. This ensures that everything works together smoothly and that your tripod workflow doesn’t get slowed down.
With QD strap anchor mount, fast and secure strap attachment
Practical if you frequently switch between tripod use and handheld shooting: the BL-Z8 comes with an integrated QD strap mount, i.e. a QD-compatible interface for modern quick-release straps. This lets you attach and detach your camera strap with a single motion, without having to fiddle around with the camera’s strap lugs every time. Especially for reportage, weddings, or outdoor assignments where things sometimes have to move quickly, this is a real comfort upgrade.
To use this QD strap mount you need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors. You’ll find a selection here: Straps with QD strap anchors. In addition, there is a classic strap eyelet on the L-bracket if you prefer to work with a conventional shoulder strap or want a second safety attachment.
Well-thought-out details for Nikon Z8 photographers
A closer look reveals that everyday practical use has been carefully considered here. The sensor center marking on the L-bracket is one of those inconspicuous but extremely helpful details. It shows you the exact position of the sensor center and is practically indispensable for precise panoramic photography, because it allows you to align your axis of rotation accurately. Especially if you want to stitch multiple shots seamlessly later on, this makes a noticeable difference.
The form-fitting anti-twist protection ensures that the L-bracket does not rotate unnoticed on the camera base, even if you position the Z8 a bit more roughly on the tripod head. Using the slotted hole, you can fine-tune the position, for example to better balance the center of gravity with a heavy lens. The existing 1/4" UNC photo threaded hole on the underside also allows you to mount the L-bracket directly on a tripod or a quick-release plate if you ever want to work without an ARCA profile.
All in all, the Kirk BL-Z8 L-bracket is a very specific tool: not universal, not modular, but deliberately focused on the Nikon Z8. Precisely because of this, you get a stable, custom-fit solution that makes your tripod-based workflow noticeably smoother, whether you’re shooting landscapes, architecture, people, or carefully planned panoramas.
