At first glance, the Leofoto AM-3 Kit Magic Arm looks rather small and unobtrusive, and that’s exactly what makes it so pleasant to use. You use it as an accessory holder, support arm or articulated arm to mount smaller extras directly on the tripod without everything immediately looking like a “rig”. Typical candidates are LED lights such as a Lume Cube, an external microphone or even a smartphone holder. And yes, that’s often exactly the difference between “kind of works” and “fits perfectly”.
Adjustable angles, quickly aligned, stays where you want it
The AM-3 can be angled, allowing you to position the mounted accessory very precisely. Sometimes a bit higher, sometimes to the side, sometimes closer to the camera, depending on what makes sense at the moment. Especially for lights or microphones this is worth its weight in gold, because you don’t have to keep re-mounting things. In practice we notice: a small arm that can be adjusted cleanly saves more time than you’d think, even if you tend to underestimate it beforehand.
Compact when packed, yet supports up to 3 kg
Weighing only 175 g, the Magic Arm hardly makes a difference in your gear. Folded up, it has a short packed length of 112 mm, so it easily fits into the side pocket of your backpack or simply into your camera bag, where usually only small bits and pieces end up. Despite these compact dimensions, it supports up to 3.0 kg, so it can handle accessories that aren’t exactly featherweight.
Ports and threads: 1/4 inch adapter and 3/8 inch UNC on top and bottom
For mounting, the Leofoto AM-3 Kit comes with well thought-out threads. You get 2 adapters with 1/4 inch external threads, plus there are 3/8 inch UNC external threads on the top and bottom. This makes it pleasantly flexible, as you can adapt it to many tripods as well as to common accessories from the photo and video field without a lot of tinkering.
Twist protection for Leofoto tripod shoulders, robust materials
A detail you only really appreciate once it’s missing: the 3/8 inch ports feature anti-twist lugs specifically matched to Leofoto tripod shoulders. This helps prevent the arm from unintentionally rotating under load. The AM-3 is made of aluminum and stainless steel, so it’s sturdy, well finished and designed for regular use. Its width is 5.5 cm, compact enough to stay out of the way but large enough to still be easy to grip and adjust.
