Leofoto AM-4 Kit Magic Arm: compact articulated arm for accessories on a tripod
At first glance, the Leofoto AM-4 Kit Magic Arm almost looks inconspicuous. That’s exactly what makes it so pleasant in everyday use: you pack it, forget about it in the best possible way, and as soon as you want to mount a small accessory neatly on the tripod, it suddenly becomes the missing puzzle piece. Designed as an accessory holder, support arm and articulated arm, it brings order to setups that otherwise tend to look a bit improvised.
With a width of 5.5 cm it remains compact, and when folded down to a short packing size of 110 mm it really fits in any bag, even in the side pocket of a backpack. The weight is 202 g, light enough to carry it with you all the time, but not so light that it feels like a “toy”.
Flexible positioning: angleable, quickly aligned, securely fixed
The AM-4 can be angled, which sounds technical at first, but in practice is simply convenient. You can position an LED light such as a Lume Cube, an external microphone or even a smartphone holder exactly as you need it. Sometimes a bit higher, sometimes to the side, sometimes closer to the camera. And yes, sometimes it’s exactly those few centimeters and the right angle that suddenly make a setup feel just right.
Despite its compact design, the Magic Arm supports up to 3.0 kg. For accessories in this class, that’s impressive and gives you leeway without feeling like you’re constantly driving with the handbrake on.
Ports and threads: 1/4" adapters and 3/8" UNC at the top and bottom
For the tripod thread, Leofoto relies on a practical combination: you get 2 x adapters with 1/4" external thread. In addition, there are 3/8" UNC external threads at the top and bottom as connection points. This allows the AM-4 Kit Magic Arm to be integrated into many common rigs, whether you use it directly on a tripod shoulder, on a clamp or on an accessory mount.
One detail you quickly learn to appreciate: the 3/8" ports have anti-twist lugs, specifically for Leofoto tripod shoulders. In plain terms, this means the connection is less likely to twist when you readjust the accessory or when there is some tension on the setup. Not spectacular, but very helpful.
Material mix of aluminum and stainless steel: robust without being overbuilt
The AM-4 is made of aluminum and stainless steel. This provides a good balance between stability and weight, and it also feels right in handling: solid, clean, without seeming bulky. Especially with accessory holders, you quickly notice whether a part “just somehow holds” or whether it is really intended for regular use. Here it clearly feels like the latter.
