Leofoto MA-30L tripod head with Arca Style and Picatinny mount when every second counts

Sometimes it all comes down to that one single movement. The Leofoto MA-30L is a compact ball head for hunting and shooting sports that noticeably makes repositioning and locking easier for you, without having to spend time turning large knobs. In contrast to the MA-30, the MA-30L works with a quick-release lever and only one small clamping screw for the preload. In use, this simply feels more direct: faster off, faster back on, and at the same time the risk of something coming loose by accident is reduced.

With a height of around 7.0 cm, the setup remains pleasantly low, and at approx. 330 g the head doesn’t add unnecessary bulk. Nevertheless, it is designed for a maximum load of up to 15 kg, which gives your system a good deal of stability even with heavy optics or powerful calibers.

Dual coupling for Arca-Style compatible and Picatinny or Weaver

The MA-30L becomes interesting exactly when you don’t want to separate between photo tripod and weapon platform. The special quick-release clamp accepts both Arca-Style compatible 38 mm dovetail plates and Picatinny or Weaver rails as found on many modern handguards and fore-ends. We have deliberately included the note on Arca Style compatibility, because in practice it really matters that the interface fits precisely.

Practically solved: you work with a lever clamp, i.e. a genuine lever locking mechanism. Lever open, align, lever closed. This is not only convenient, but in situations where you don’t have all the time in the world, it is simply the decisive advantage. And yes, the small clamping screw for the preload is intentionally kept small so that you don’t accidentally get caught on anything or unintentionally change the clamping force.

Rapid Lock System with safety stop so the rail doesn’t shift

Leofoto uses the Rapid Lock System here with a safety stop function that is more than just a marketing term. A steel pin with a diameter of 5 mm engages in matching holes in the rail with a diameter of 5.5 mm. This interface prevents the rail from unintentionally repositioning itself within the clamp as soon as the quick release is engaged. And incidentally, this significantly improves the classic clamping that relies purely on friction. In handling it simply feels more secure, especially when you reposition quickly or want to make minor corrections after shouldering.

Important: A quick-release plate is not included. So if you want to work Arca-Style compatible, please plan for a suitable plate or adapter.

Wide panning range, one-handed operation and bubble level for precise alignment

The ball head offers you a generous panning range in all directions. Tracking a moving target, for example passing game, works smoothly without you having to “fight” against the mechanism. You open the silver lever, align, close it again, and the setup is locked in. As simple as that. And because in practice the horizontal alignment often matters, a tubular bubble level is integrated to help you level the setup, especially when the ground is uneven.

Robust 30 mm ball diameter, CNC machined from 6061 T6 aluminum

Inside, a 30 mm ball is at work, deliberately designed for stability. For the metal parts, Leofoto uses 6061 T6 aluminum, a high-quality, corrosion-resistant alloy with magnesium and silicon. The material offers high strength and good toughness, with a yield strength in a range comparable to structural steel. And because manufacturing is what ultimately counts: the parts are CNC machined from solid stock on modern machines. This is noticeably more robust than typical cast parts; there are no excuses here, Leofoto makes no compromises.

The surface is black anodized, making it suitable for everyday use and resistant, even when things get wet or dusty.

Mounting to the tripod via 3/8 UNC thread

The Leofoto MA-30L is mounted in the classic way via a 3/8 UNC mounting hole for screwing on. This is the standard tripod thread and therefore straightforward, whether you use it on a tripod, a stalking tripod, or another stable base.
