If you’re looking for a tripod that can really always come along, the Leofoto Ranger LS-223C carbon tripod is such a candidate. It’s a three-legged carbon tripod, pleasantly light at 0.54 kg, yet designed for a maximum load of 10.0 kg. That may sound like a contradiction at first, but it isn’t. This exact combination makes it so practical in everyday use, whether you’re heading out with a mirrorless camera or just need a stable base for longer exposures.
With a transport length of 20 cm, it almost casually disappears in many camera backpacks. And yes, it really is more of a mini tripod, but one that’s meant to be taken seriously.
Work close to the ground without contortions, from a setup height of 5 cm
The minimum setup height is 5 cm. That’s not just a number on the spec sheet, but in practice the point where macro photography becomes fun: mushrooms, details in moss, product shots on the ground, small changes in perspective that you’d otherwise tend to skip. For working close to the ground, the LS-223C is simply made for it; you don’t have to improvise or half-extend anything to make it work.
And if you need a bit more height, you can reach a maximum setup height of 0.31 m. Not huge, of course, but for many low-angle setups, tabletop shots, or as a stable backup in your gear, it’s surprisingly often enough.
3 leg sections, grippy twist locks, cleanly graduated tube diameters
Each leg of the tripod uses 3 sections, secured with rubberized twist locks. This feels pleasantly direct when setting up, not fiddly, not too loose. The leg sections are sensibly dimensioned, with diameters of 22, 19 and 16 mm. This graduation provides stability without letting the packed size get out of hand. Carbon naturally helps here as well: stiff, low in vibration, and not as uncomfortably cold as metal in winter.
Scope of delivery
Included are the LS-223C tripod itself, plus a padded carrying bag, three stainless steel spikes for better grip on soft ground, a hex key and a multitool. In short: unpack, adjust, get started, without having to hunt for accessories first.
