Ultimately small, yet surprisingly functional. The Micro Groundpod Lever is a ground tripod that you can just as easily use as a mini tripod, table tripod or even as a compact monopod, depending on what you need at the moment. At just 4.9 cm in height, the camera really stays close to the ground, and with a width of 8.0 cm the setup is stable without taking up much space in your backpack. 150 g, that’s all it is. And yes, you notice that when you’re on the go.
If you like shooting from a low perspective, often work with long focal lengths and still want to pan, track and tilt smoothly, this ground tripod fits the bill quite well. Especially in telephotography it’s pleasant when the movement feels controlled and not jerky. All the more so for travel photography, because you don’t want to lug around yet another bulky piece of gear.
Lever clamp, ARCA compatible and quick to access
The integrated lever clamp is designed for speed without feeling hectic. You place your plate on, clamp it, done. According to the manufacturer, the coupling accepts ARCA-compatible 38 mm dovetail profiles, which in practice simply means: many common plates and L-brackets fit without you having to tinker first.
60 mm base plate with anti-slip pad and ball joint
The 60 mm base plate comes with an anti-slip pad so the tripod doesn’t immediately start wandering on smooth floors. The plate itself is made of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic, the anti-slip pad of thermoplastic elastomer. That sounds technical, but it’s simple: robust, grippy, and resistant when things get a bit sandy or slightly damp.
The ball joint gives you the freedom you need at ground level. You get 360° rotation and a tilt range of 40°. This lets you track subjects, pan, and tilt slightly up or down without having to completely rebuild your position. When working close to the ground, that’s exactly the point, otherwise it quickly becomes annoying.
The Micro Groundpod Lever is delivered fully assembled, and the screw connections are secured with thread locker. You unpack it, put it to use, done. No loose screw that says goodbye after the third outing; that kind of thing is particularly annoying at ground level.
