Peak Design Standard Plate - Camera Plate for Capture Camera Clip v3
Peak Design Standard Plate, your compact camera plate for the Capture Camera Clip v3
Sometimes it’s not the big, expensive parts that make your everyday photography more relaxed, but a small, inconspicuous thing like the Peak Design Standard Plate. This exact camera plate is specially designed for the Capture Camera Clip v3 and fits it like a glove. If you use multiple cameras and don’t want to constantly swap the same plate from one to another, it’s basically the missing puzzle piece in your setup that saves you some nerves and quite a lot of time.
Especially when you’re on the go, traveling, or on jobs where things have to move quickly, it’s pretty annoying to remove the clamp plate from one camera just to mount it on the next. With a dedicated Standard Plate for each camera, you simply click from one to the other instead of remounting. Take one camera out, put the next one in, done. No fiddling, no “Where did I put that hex key again?”
Arca-style compatible profile on all four sides
The Peak Design Standard Plate is fully Arca-style compatible, and that on all four sides. This means you can clamp the plate into practically any common Arca-style compatible tripod clamp, and you can do so flexibly in different orientations. For you, this means you’re not limited to a single direction or position, but can clamp the camera in whichever way makes the most sense for your framing at that moment.
Especially when you switch between portrait and landscape orientation or work with different tripod heads, this continuous Arca-style compatibility makes a real difference. The plate sits securely, doesn’t slip, and still remains highly versatile. We’d say it’s a kind of small standard in the professional and serious enthusiast segment that you eventually won’t want to be without.
1/4-inch screw for your camera’s tripod mount
The Standard Plate is attached in the classic way via a 1/4-inch screw in your camera’s tripod mount. That’s the normal thread that almost every camera has on the bottom. So you don’t need any special adapters or exotic spacers. Place the plate on, tighten the screw, done.
This 1/4-inch screw is robustly made and designed to hold your camera securely without loosening with every movement. Whether you’re out with a lightweight mirrorless camera or a somewhat heavier DSLR body, the connection remains stable as long as you tighten the screw properly.
Adjustable screw for flexible positioning
A small but very practical detail: the screw in the Peak Design Standard Plate can be moved within the plate. So you’re not tied to a fixed position, but can align the plate so that your camera sits optimally in the Capture Clip v3.
This is especially helpful if, for example, you have a larger lens mounted and want to balance the weight a bit. Or if you simply want to make sure the camera in the clip doesn’t bump into your backpack, belt, or strap. By shifting the screw, you can adapt the plate to your camera and your carrying style instead of having to stick to a fixed specification.
Only suitable for the Capture Clip v3
Important and actually crucial: this version of the Peak Design Standard Plate is designed exclusively for the Capture Camera Clip v3. It is too flat for older Capture Clip models. It does technically fit into the clip, but the distance between the top of the plate and the top of the clip is then so small that you can’t lock the camera securely in place with the plate mounted.
So if you’re still using an older Capture Clip, this version of the Standard Plate is not the right choice. For the Capture Clip v3, however, it is designed precisely for that purpose and works exactly as intended. We’d put it this way: it harmonizes with the v3, but not so much with older clips.
Eyelets on every corner for anchor loops
On each corner of the Peak Design Standard Plate you’ll find small eyelets where you can attach the well-known Peak Design anchor loops. This allows you to connect your camera directly to Peak Design straps or hand straps without needing additional adapters on the camera body.
This is especially practical if you sometimes carry your camera on the Capture Clip v3, sometimes on a strap, and in between maybe in your hand with a hand strap. The eyelets on the plate make this back and forth much easier, because you can simply leave the anchors on the plate and don’t have to re-thread them all the time.
Durable CNC-machined aluminum
The Standard Plate is made of CNC-machined aluminum. That may sound technical at first, but basically it means the plate is manufactured very precisely while remaining pleasantly lightweight. Aluminum offers a good combination of stability and low weight, which is always an important factor in photography, especially when you’re on the move a lot.
Thanks to CNC manufacturing, the edges are cleanly finished and the profile fits perfectly into the Capture Clip v3 and into Arca-style compatible clamps. The plate feels high-quality and is intended for daily use, not just for the occasional outing.
Non-slip PVC contact surface for your camera body
On the top side of the Peak Design Standard Plate there is a ribbed contact surface made of injection-molded PVC. This structure ensures that the camera doesn’t slide around on the plate but stays securely in place. At the same time, the PVC surface is gentle on the camera body and prevents unsightly scratches or pressure marks.
The combination of a metal plate and a softer, grippy surface is a well-thought-out detail that you quickly learn to appreciate in everyday use. Especially if you frequently mount and remove your camera or work with different bodies, such a non-slip, protective contact surface makes a noticeable difference.
Tripod thread adapter for Peak Design straps
The Peak Design Standard Plate can also be used as a tripod thread adapter for all Peak Design straps. This means you can connect your straps directly to the camera via the plate, without having to mount extra accessories on the bottom of the camera.
If you already use Peak Design straps, the Standard Plate integrates seamlessly into this system. You combine Capture Clip v3, camera plate, and strap into a flexible setup that you can adapt to the situation. Sometimes on the backpack, sometimes on the strap, sometimes on the tripod. Everything is based on the same plate, which significantly streamlines your workflow.
Compact dimensions and low weight
With dimensions of about 7 x 38 x 38 millimeters, the Peak Design Standard Plate is very compact. It hardly adds any bulk to the camera and doesn’t get in the way when stowing it in your bag or when carrying it on the Capture Clip v3.
The weight is around 14 grams, so it’s really light. You’ll hardly notice it in everyday use, which is especially pleasant if you’re already out and about with multiple lenses, batteries, and maybe a laptop as well. Every little thing that doesn’t add extra weight is welcome.
What’s included with the Peak Design Standard Plate
Included in the box is one Peak Design Standard Plate, i.e. the actual camera plate for the Capture Camera Clip v3. You also get a 4-millimeter hex key that you can use to securely attach the plate to your camera and remove it again if necessary.
This gives you everything you need to get started right away. No additional parts, no hidden extras you first have to buy separately. Unpack, mount, use.
Note on compatibility with older Capture Clips
This newer version of the Peak Design Standard Plate is not suitable for older Capture Clip models. It can physically be inserted into the older clips, but due to the flatter profile, the distance between the top of the plate and the top of the clip is too small.
As a result, you can’t properly lock the plate with an attached camera into the clip. The functionality would therefore be limited and not as safe as it should be. So if you’re using a Capture Clip v3, this Standard Plate is a perfect match. For older models, we recommend specifically looking for the appropriate version so that everything works together reliably.
