Really Right Stuff B2-FABN-Micro: Mini quick-release clamp

Made in the USA

The Really Right Stuff B2-FABN-Micro mini quick-release clamp is a small, quite cleverly designed connecting piece when you want to neatly couple camera and camera strap with a quick-release plate. As the name already suggests, it is made in the USA from 6061T aluminum and then black anodized. Not only does it feel high-quality, it also remains unobtrusive in everyday use, even if the clamp permanently stays on your setup.

At around 7.3 cm in length, about 2.2 cm in width and approx. 1.4 cm in height (including the locking knurling slightly above that), it is truly compact. And yes, it weighs only 40 g, which you’ll hardly notice on the strap.

Arca-style compatible

The clamp works as a screw clamp and accepts a 38 mm dovetail clamping profile, stated by the manufacturer as Arca-style compatible. You can find the note on ARCA style and matching components here: ARCA compatible. In practice, it securely clamps, among others, Really Right Stuff dovetail, Wimberley dovetail and Kirk dovetail, and it also grips Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) 38 mm dovetail.

To make insertion quick, there is a laser engraving in the center as a mid-point marker, i.e. engraved centering marks exactly in the middle of the clamping profile. A small detail, but surprisingly helpful when mounting quickly, because you don’t have to align “by feel” forever.

Compatibility, specifically tested on 13/09/2016, also includes: Really Right Stuff plates and Really Right Stuff L-brackets, Kirk plates and Kirk L-brackets, Wimberley plates and replacement lens feet, Pro Media Gear plates and Pro Media Gear L-brackets, Berlebach 38 mm profiles, Gitzo D profile plates, Novoflex clamping profiles, Manfrotto Q6 clamping profiles, Sirui plates and L-brackets, Jobu Design profiles, Burzynski profiles, Benro profiles and Photoseiki profiles. That’s a pretty broad base if you have various plates or brackets in circulation.

with QD strap anchor mount

The B2-FABN-Micro is pleasantly flexible for strap mounting. You can thread the camera strap directly through the two existing strap eyelets positioned opposite each other. Alternatively, you can use a camera strap screw with 1/4" UNC photo thread and screw it into one of the 2 x 1/4" UNC threads on the underside, depending on how you want the strap to run. And then there’s a third option: the QD strap mount, in this case it is yes, a single one, with a centered QD steel bushing insert, matching the QD compatible system, for example for Magpul straps.

Important, don’t overlook this: to use the QD mount you need a strap with QD strap anchors. We have placed the relevant note here: Strap with QD strap anchors.

If you use straps with threaded studs, we strongly recommend securing the screw connection with a drop of BLUE Loctite. This is one of those typical things you forget once and regret later, so better think of it right away.

And one more technical detail on the side, because it’s often asked: the clamping jaw length is also about 2.2 cm, which keeps the clamp compact while still gripping the profile cleanly. This exact combination is what makes it so practical as a mini quick-release clamp for the camera strap, especially if you don’t want a large quick-release coupling dangling from the strap.
