Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate

Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate, compact quick-release plate for your everyday field use

Sometimes you don’t need a huge L-bracket or exotic special accessories, but simply a small, honest quick-release plate that reliably does its job. That’s exactly where the Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate comes in: a compact, square 38 mm plate with dovetail profile that can be securely clamped lengthwise and crosswise and feels surprisingly at home on many cameras.

What you get here is a universal camera plate that is deliberately kept simple, yet feels very well thought-out in the details: low weight, precise milling, cleanly deburred edges, and an adjustable 1/4 inch mounting screw so you can optimally adapt the plate to your camera, instead of the other way around.

Arca-style compatible, fits common 38 mm quick-release clamps

The B9 is ARCA compatible and uses a 38 mm dovetail profile that sits securely in Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) 38 mm quick-release clamps. If you already use a tripod with an ARCA quick-release coupling, you can integrate this universal plate seamlessly and don’t have to switch to a proprietary system.

Whether ball head, geared head, or compact travel head – as long as your quick-release clamp supports the Arca-style standard, the Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate can be quickly clamped in, both lengthwise and crosswise. For many photographers this has become something like the common language between different manufacturers.

If you would like general information on the ARCA system or are looking for additional ARCA compatible components, you will find suitable products in our range.

Made in the USA, precise workmanship and robust materials

The B9 is made in the USA, and you can tell when you look at the plate. The material is high-quality, the edges are cleanly milled, nothing feels cheap or “knocked together on the side.” The plate is black anodized, which not only looks good but also provides additional protection for the surface.

With a length of 38 mm, a width of 38 mm, and a weight of only about 28 g, the Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate remains pleasantly unobtrusive on the camera. It barely adds bulk, fits easily into small pockets, and doesn’t make your setup unnecessarily front-heavy. Especially if you travel a lot or want to work with lightweight gear, this compact design is a real advantage.

Longitudinally adjustable 1/4" mounting screw, flexibly adaptable to many cameras

A core feature of the B9 is the longitudinally adjustable 1/4 inch mounting screw. Instead of a fixed position, you can move the screw forwards or backwards in the slot to place the plate exactly where it makes the most sense on your camera.

This lets you, for example, balance the center of gravity better when using a slightly heavier lens, or ensure that flaps, battery compartment, or memory card slot are not blocked. It’s this kind of detail that saves you annoying fiddling in everyday use and simply gives you smoother handling.

Anti-twist stop, stable fit, less readjustment

The Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate features an anti-twist stop that prevents the plate from unintentionally rotating on the camera’s base plate. Especially with smaller cameras or bodies without pronounced shaping, a simple plate can otherwise easily work loose and twist slightly, which quickly leads to crooked images on the tripod.

With this stop, the plate sits significantly more securely, you need to retighten less often, and you can focus more on composition and focus instead of constantly checking whether something has come loose. It’s not a spectacular feature, but one of those you won’t want to do without after a few uses.

Universal compatibility, from Canon to Sigma

The B9 is deliberately designed as a universal plate and fits many cameras with a classic 1/4 inch tripod thread. It is suitable, among others, for:

  • Canon: for example the Canon Powershot S30
  • Contax: including Contax 167 MT, Contax G1, Contax G2, Contax T, and Contax TVS
  • Leica: such as Leica Digilux 2, Leica M handgrip, and Leica R handgrip
  • Nikon: for example Nikon Coolpix 8800
  • Olympus: such as Olympus E-P1 Pen, Olympus E-P2 Pen, and Olympus OM-D E-M5 with HLD-6 grip
  • Panasonic: for example Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC1
  • Sigma: including Sigma SD 9 and Sigma SD 10

Beyond that, the Really Right Stuff B9 universal plate can of course also be used universally on many other cameras, as long as a standardized 1/4 inch tripod thread is present and the shape of the base is not a completely exotic special design. In short: if you are looking for a compact, Arca-style-compatible quick-release plate that works on a wide variety of bodies, the B9 is an exceptionally pragmatic choice.
