Really Right Stuff BZ7: Quick-release plate for Nikon Z6 / Z6II / Z7 / Z7 II

Really Right Stuff BZ7 quick-release plate for Nikon Z6 / Z6II / Z7 / Z7 II

Sometimes it’s the small parts that make the biggest difference in everyday photography. The Really Right Stuff BZ7 quick-release plate falls exactly into this category: inconspicuous at first glance, but in use extremely practical, stable, and pleasantly unobtrusive—until you take it off once and realize how much you’ve already gotten used to it.

Specifically developed for the following cameras

The BZ7 is not a universal compromise solution, but deliberately designed specifically for the following cameras: Nikon Z6, Nikon Z6II, Nikon Z7, and Nikon Z7II. The base plate follows the contour of these mirrorless Nikon Z models very closely, so that it practically feels like a fixed part of the camera body.

Thanks to the form-fitting adaptation, the plate fits flush with the camera and reliably prevents twisting, even when you use heavier lenses or an FTZ adapter. Once mounted with the 1/4-inch photo thread screw, the camera is absolutely twist-proof without you having to constantly retighten it.

Made from high-quality aluminium in the USA

The Really Right Stuff BZ7 is entirely made in the USA and precisely CNC-milled from solid 6061-T6 aluminium. This material is virtually standard in the professional sector because it offers a very good ratio of strength to weight. At only 66 g, your Nikon Z remains pleasantly light, even when you’re on the go a lot.

The surface is black anodized. This anodized layer protects the aluminium from scratches and corrosion while also providing a discreet, low-reflection look that matches the camera. The dimensions are chosen with practical use in mind: approximately 13.18 cm wide, 6.3 cm deep, and only 1.1 cm high. This keeps the combination of camera and plate nicely compact while still giving you a noticeably more secure grip in the hand.

Arca-style compatible for flexible tripod work

At its core, the BZ7 is a classic Arca-style compatible quick-release plate with an integrated 38 mm dovetail profile. You can insert it directly into a wide range of clamps without additional adapters or special solutions. If you’re generally interested in ARCA systems, you’ll find suitable quick-release clamps and accessories under ARCA compatible.

According to the manufacturer, the plate fits numerous clamps such as Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, ProMediaGear clamps, Wimberley clamps, Kirk clamps, Jobu Design clamps, FlexShooter screw cross clamps, as well as other Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps. If you already use an ARCA setup, the BZ7 integrates seamlessly without requiring you to change your system.

With QD strap socket for quick strap changes

A practical detail that many only notice at second glance: the BZ7 features an integrated QD strap socket(yes, one)with QD strap anchor socket. This allows you to attach and detach modern QD camera straps in a flash without having to fiddle with the camera itself. In addition, there is a classic strap eyelet if you prefer to attach a conventional camera strap.

Because the plate is QD compatible, you’ll need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors to use this function. You can find corresponding straps under QD strap with strap anchors. This way you can quickly switch between shoulder strap, hand strap, or no strap at all depending on the situation, without having to re-thread anything each time.

Thought-out ergonomics and free access to the battery

The shape of the plate is designed to improve the ergonomics of your Nikon Z rather than interfere with it. You get a bit more contact area for your hand while access to the battery compartment remains fully preserved. You therefore don’t have to remove the plate when changing the battery— a detail that saves a surprising amount of time and nerves in everyday use.

The BZ7 is deliberately not universal, but tailored exactly to these Nikon Z models. As a result, it sits cleanly on the camera base without unnecessary play or wobbly transitions. With the plate mounted, the camera feels more solid and more secure in the hand, especially if you shoot a lot handheld or frequently switch between portrait and landscape orientation.

Modular: optionally expandable with L-component

The BZ7 is part of a modular system and is modular, yes, optionally expandable with an L-component. With a separately available L-component, you can upgrade the base plate to a full L-bracket. You then have both horizontal and vertical ARCA dovetail profiles at your disposal, which is very convenient for precise portrait-format shots on a tripod.

This allows you to start small and upgrade later if you find yourself working in portrait orientation more often or needing even more stability and repeatability. The base plate itself remains the foundation, so you don’t have to replace the entire setup.

Compatible with Nikon FTZ adapter in everyday use

An important point for many Z photographers: the BZ7 can be used as usual with the Nikon FTZ adapter. When the FTZ adapter is mounted on the camera, the functionality of the quick-release plate remains fully intact. You can therefore continue to switch easily between tripod and handheld shooting without the adapter getting in the way.

There is only one small but important rule: to install or remove the Nikon FTZ adapter on the camera, the camera and plate must not be locked in a quick-release clamp. As soon as the camera with the BZ7 is not clamped in a coupling, you can mount or remove the FTZ adapter at any time. In normal use, this quickly becomes second nature.

Precise sensor center marking for panoramas

On the plate you’ll find a laser-engraved sensor center marking. This marking is very helpful for accurate alignment of the camera on the tripod and is practically indispensable for panoramic photography. It allows you to align the camera more precisely over the pivot point and thus capture more even, better stitchable image sequences.

Especially if you often shoot panoramas or multi-row images, you’ll quickly come to appreciate this small marking. It saves you a lot of trial and error and makes setup more reproducible.

Really Right Stuff R-Lock safety mechanism

For additional security, the BZ7 is equipped with the Really Right Stuff R-Lock. This safety mechanism ensures that the plate is held particularly securely in compatible RRS clamps. The camera is thus not only firmly seated but also protected against unintentional shifting.

In combination with the precise dovetail profile, this results in a very stable connection between camera and tripod head. This is especially noticeable with longer focal lengths or long exposures, because you have less play in the system and need to readjust less often.

Reliable quick-release plate for daily use

All in all, the Really Right Stuff BZ7 quick-release plate is a very well thought-out solution for the Nikon Z6, Z6II, Z7, and Z7II if you’re looking for an ARCA compatible, QD compatible, and precisely fitting camera plate that simply proves itself in everyday use. It is light, robust, precisely manufactured, and thanks to its custom shape, it blends almost seamlessly into the design of your Nikon Z.

No PMG-specific strap mount (PMG strap mount: no), but instead a clear focus on what really matters in daily use: secure support, quick changes between tripod and strap, reliable compatibility with common ARCA systems, and handling that you barely notice after a short time—because it just works.
