Really Right Stuff MC-LS - MK2 universal L-bracket
Really Right Stuff MC-LS, MK2 universal L-bracket for demanding photographers
With the Really Right Stuff MC-LS, MK2 universal L-bracket, you simply get more out of your camera. Not a lot of gimmicks, but a well-thought-out tool that reliably does its job on the tripod in everyday use. Whether you work professionally or as an ambitious hobby photographer, this L-bracket is designed to adapt almost unobtrusively to the way you work.
The MC-LS, MK2 is universally usable, fits a wide range of modern camera bodies, and can be precisely adjusted to different sizes and shapes. You can move the two-part L-component as needed or remove it completely, so that even with unusual setups, larger bodies, or special connector configurations you are not suddenly left without a solution. Thanks to the option of shifting the L-component forwards and backwards by about 5 mm each, the optical center can be finely tuned to flip and tilt screens without anything being blocked or bumping into something.
Precisely manufactured, made in the USA
The MC-LS, MK2 is designed and manufactured in the USA by Really Right Stuff, and you can tell. The body is made from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum, a material widely used in aerospace engineering because it offers a very good ratio of weight to rigidity. At only about 110 g, the L-bracket remains pleasantly light, yet is torsionally stiff enough to hold your camera securely, even if you frequently switch between portrait and landscape orientation.
The surface is type II black anodized, which not only looks sleek and understated, but also provides a robust, scratch-resistant finish. This keeps the L-bracket looking good even with intensive use. The dimensions are chosen with practical use in mind: about 8.7 cm wide, 3.8 cm deep, and 8.8 cm high, with an extended width of around 12.1 cm. This leaves enough room for cables, ports, and side flaps without the L-bracket getting in the way.
Arca-style compatible for quick changes on the tripod
The MC-LS, MK2 uses the proven RRS dovetail standard and is fully Arca-style compatible. The clamping profile is designed for 38 mm quick-release clamps that are, according to the manufacturer, Arca-style compatible. This allows you to use the L-bracket in most common ARCA quick-release couplings without needing special solutions. Landscape, portrait, back again—the change is quick, precise, and without fiddling.
Safely on the go with QD strap socket
Practical for mobile use: the L-bracket has an integrated QD strap socket, i.e. a QD-compatible interface for quick-release straps. This allows you to connect your camera to a suitable carrying strap with QD strap anchors and quickly switch from strap to tripod when needed, without having to re-screw anything each time. To use this socket, you need a strap with QD strap anchors, which you can purchase separately: QD strap with matching anchors.
In addition to the QD socket, there is a classic strap eyelet so you can also attach conventional camera straps or safety tethers. Especially for outdoor shoots, when traveling, or working in the city, this is an extra level of security that you only really appreciate once something has gone wrong.
Flexible adjustment to different camera bodies
The MC-LS, MK2 is deliberately designed as a universally usable L-plate. The anti-twist flange plate can be moved lengthwise and aligned so that it rests either on the front or the back of the camera body. This provides a secure hold for most camera body sizes, preventing the L-bracket from slipping or twisting under load.
The distance from the camera socket to the anti-twist flange can be adjusted in a range of about 3.95 mm to 29.89 mm. Likewise, the distance from the camera socket to the L-component is variable and ranges from approximately 43 mm to 76.2 mm. This range ensures that you can finely adjust the L-bracket to different camera designs, whether a compact body or a somewhat larger housing. The movable front and rear mounting screws, the flange plate, and the L-component itself provide additional flexibility to index the central mounting point precisely.
The side L-component has an access window with a width of about 28.1 mm. This keeps side ports such as HDMI, USB, or remote release accessible in many cases without having to loosen the L-bracket each time. Especially during tethered sessions or video setups, this is a noticeable gain in convenience.
Modular design for different setups
The MC-LS, MK2 has a modular design. The two-part L-component can be shifted away from the camera or removed completely. If, for example, you only want to use a base plate because you are operating the camera in a gimbal, cage, or special rig, this is easily possible. If you need the full L-shape again for portrait shots on the tripod, you simply reattach the side component.
This modular construction makes the L-bracket a very versatile tool that adapts to your workflow instead of forcing you into a particular way of working. Whether in the studio, outdoors, for reportage, or architecture, you can configure the setup in whatever way works best at the moment.
Stable connection and anti-twist protection with R-Lock
To prevent your camera from unintentionally shifting on the tripod, the L-bracket is equipped with anti-twist protection. In combination with R-Lock or RRS-Lock, it achieves a secure lock with compatible clamps such as the ARC-LR clamp. The lens-centered indexing ensures that the camera can be positioned repeatedly in exactly the same way, which is very helpful for series shots, bracketing, or precise compositions.
The anti-twist stop prevents the camera from rotating around the tripod screw, even when you use heavier lenses or frequently reorient the camera. This keeps your setup stable and saves you from constantly having to readjust.
Practical dimensions, low weight, high everyday usability
With its width of around 8.7 cm, a depth of about 3.8 cm, and a height of 8.8 cm, the MC-LS, MK2 strikes a good balance between stability and compactness. The extended width of approximately 12.1 cm provides enough leeway to accommodate different camera sizes without the L-bracket becoming excessively bulky.
The weight of roughly 110 g is pleasantly low, so the L-bracket hardly adds any noticeable weight in your camera bag. At the same time, the construction remains robust enough to function reliably even with frequent switching between portrait and landscape orientation, when working with tripod heads, or during longer shoots. It is one of those parts that you simply no longer want to be without after a few uses because it quietly solves many small problems in the background.
Universally usable for photo and video projects
Because the MC-LS, MK2 is designed as a universal solution, it is suitable for a wide range of cameras and applications. From landscape photography to portrait, product, or architectural photography—wherever you need precise and repeatable framing, the L-bracket plays to its strengths. It is also a very practical solution for video setups where you need to switch quickly between different orientations or connect accessories to the side of the camera.
By combining an ARCA-compatible clamping profile, QD-compatible strap socket, strap eyelet, modular design, and anti-twist flange plate, you get a tool that integrates seamlessly into many existing setups. Not a flashy showpiece, but a solid, reliable part of your equipment that works in the background so you can focus on what really matters: your images.
