Shimoda Core Unit - Mirrorless -L25 RST (520-452) Mirrorless (ML) 25- Large RST
Shimoda Core Unit Mirrorless L25 RST, your smart interior layout for the Action X25
Let’s be honest: even the best backpack won’t help you much if everything inside is flying around wildly. The Shimoda Core Unit, Mirrorless, L25 RST (520-452) is built precisely to make full, sensible use of your Shimoda Action X25 from top to bottom and to organize your gear not just somehow, but really well. Tailored perfectly to the Action X25, it fills the interior space in height and ensures that no valuable space is wasted.
Perfectly matched to the Shimoda Action X25, used from top to bottom
The Core Unit is precisely matched to the Shimoda Action X25 backpack. It uses the backpack’s storage space continuously, from the base to the top end, so you can make meaningful use of every single centimeter. This lets you safely store longer telephoto zooms without having to lay them at an angle or bumping them into anything.
Lenses with a length of up to 43 cm can be stored without any issues. This includes typical superzooms such as a Sony 200–600mm f/5.6–6.3 G OSS FE [SEL200600G] (2019), a Nikon Z 180–600mm f/5.6–6.3 VR NIKKOR (2023), a Canon RF 200–800mm f/6.3–9.0 IS USM (2023), an OM System 150–600mm f/5–6.3 M.ZUIKO Digital ED IS, or a Fuji 150–600mm f/5.6–8 R LM OIS WR XF. The common 150–600mm zooms from Sigma and Tamron—such as the Sigma 150–600mm f/5–6.3 DG DN OS Sports, Sigma 150–600mm f/5–6.3 DG OS HSM / Contemporary, Sigma 150–600mm f/5–6.3 DG OS HSM / Sports, Tamron 150–600mm f/5–6.3 Di VC USD G2 SP, or Tamron 150–600mm f/5–6.3 Di VC USD SP—also find their place in this Core Unit, even when mounted on a camera body.
So you don’t have to think too long: if your telephoto zoom is roughly in this league, the chances are very high that it will fit into the Mirrorless L25 RST.
Important note: Not compatible with the Shimoda Explore series
To avoid any nasty surprises later: the RST Core Units, including this Mirrorless L25, are not compatible with backpacks from the Shimoda Explore series. They are specifically designed for the Action X line, especially the Action X25. So if you are using an Explore backpack, this Core Unit unfortunately would not be the right choice.
Rear, side, and top access – hardly any more flexible than this
The designation RST stands for rear, side, and top access. And that is exactly what you get here. The Core Unit integrates neatly into the side access of the Shimoda Action X25. This means you can comfortably take out your camera through the backpack’s side opening without dragging everything else out with it.
In addition, the design allows you to access your gear from above: via the zipper at the base of the expandable roll-top, you can quickly reach your camera or lens without having to fully open the backpack. For situations in which you want to see everything at a glance, you also have the classic rear access. This way you can always choose whether you just want to quickly change a setup or completely rearrange your system.
Optimized for mirrorless and DSLR cameras without grip
The mirrorless version of the Core Unit is, as the name suggests, designed for mirrorless cameras, but it also works with many DSLR cameras without a battery grip. It is matched to camera bodies up to a height of about 12 cm.
Thanks to the reduced depth, the profile remains pleasantly slim. This has two advantages: on the one hand, your gear sits compact and wobble-free; on the other hand, the overall height is oriented toward international carry-on standards. Especially if you fly a lot, this is a very reassuring point—your camera gear stays with you instead of disappearing into the cargo hold.
Light, water-repellent protective cover – more than just dust protection
A light, water-repellent protective cover is included. It is primarily intended as a storage container for the padded Core Unit when you are not using your gear in the backpack. This keeps the unit itself protected from dust, moisture, and small items that otherwise tend to get stuck in padding.
At the same time, you can repurpose this cover: it works excellently as an additional packing pouch. You can fill it with clothing, accessories, or other travel items and stow it in your backpack or carry-on luggage. Practical when you are traveling without a full camera setup but still want to keep your luggage organized.
EVA protective shells and flexible dividers for reliable protection
The walls and dividers of the Shimoda Core Unit Mirrorless L25 RST are made of EVA material. Compared to the more commonly used, cheaper PE foams, EVA offers significantly better protection and more consistent material quality. For you, this means your gear can handle bumps, knocks, and the usual travel chaos much better.
Because EVA is more rigid, the walls can be made thinner without sacrificing protection. This gives you extra interior volume that you can use for additional lenses, bodies, or accessories. The dividers can be individually adjusted so you can set up your system—whether with Sony, Nikon Z, Canon RF, OM System, Fuji, Sigma, or Tamron—exactly the way you need it, instead of being forced into a rigid grid.
Dimensions, weight, and capacity at a glance
To give you a rough idea of how the Core Unit will work in your backpack, here are the key data in compact form:
- Maximum lens length: up to 43 cm, ideal for large telephoto zooms such as Sony 200–600mm, Nikon Z 180–600mm, Canon RF 200–800mm, OM System 150–600mm, Fuji 150–600mm, as well as the common 150–600mm zooms from Sigma and Tamron, even when mounted on a camera body.
- Weight: approx. 0.56 kg, light enough for travel tours, sturdy enough for daily use.
- External dimensions: approx. 26 cm width x 45 cm height x 13 cm depth.
- Internal dimensions: approx. 24 cm width x 43 cm height x 12 cm depth, optimally usable thanks to the adjustable dividers.
All in all, the Shimoda Core Unit, Mirrorless, L25 RST gives you a well-thought-out, robust, and highly flexible interior solution for your Shimoda Action X25, specifically developed for modern mirrorless systems and long telephoto zooms—without unnecessary frills, but with exactly the details that really matter in everyday use.
