Kirk PZ-134V2 universal camera plate with QD mount

Universal camera plate Kirk PZ-134V2 for demanding photographers

Sometimes it’s amazing how much calm enters your workflow as soon as the camera simply sits securely. The Kirk PZ-134V2 universal camera plate is made exactly for this moment: a compact, well‑thought‑out quick‑release plate that reliably connects your camera to your tripod head, without much fuss but with a lot of substance.

The plate is universally usable and fits a wide range of modern camera systems. It is suitable, among others, for Canon DSLR models such as the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 5DS and Canon EOS 5DS R, for Nikon DSLRs such as the Nikon D7100 and Nikon D7200, for Pentax with the Pentax K-7, for Sony full‑frame cameras such as the Sony Alpha 7 IV and the Sony Alpha 7R V [ILCE-7RM5], as well as for various FUJIFILM models, including the FUJIFILM GFX 100 II, FUJIFILM GFX 100S, FUJIFILM GFX 50S II and the FUJIFILM XH-1 with VPB-XH1 battery grip. In short: you don’t have to look for a completely new solution for every camera, but can cover many setups with this universal camera plate.

Precision from 6061-T6 aluminum, made in the USA

The Kirk PZ-134V2 is made from high‑quality 6061-T6 aluminum, a material that has proven itself in aerospace engineering and here provides a remarkable combination of stability and low weight. At only 48 g, the plate remains pleasantly light, so it does not unnecessarily weigh down your gear, yet is still stable enough to confidently carry even heavy cameras.

The surface is black anodized, making it unobtrusive, low‑reflection and durable. The matte black anodizing protects the material from scratches and corrosion and ensures that the plate still looks neat even after many uses in the studio, on trips or outside in the rain. The profile dimensions are chosen with practical use in mind: with a width of 7.3 cm, a depth of 4.4 cm and a profile length on the underside of 6.0 cm, the plate offers a stable contact surface without protruding excessively on the camera. The height of 1.4 cm keeps the setup compact so the combination of camera and plate still fits easily into bags and backpacks.

We pay close attention with such details to ensure they don’t become annoying in everyday use. That’s why the stainless‑steel screw is designed to be captive. You don’t have to hope every time that the mounting screw will somehow reappear in the grass, against the studio backdrop or at the bottom of your case. It stays where it belongs: on the plate.

Arca‑style compatible for flexible quick‑release setups

The Kirk PZ-134V2 is ARCA compatible and therefore an extremely practical solution for many modern quick‑release systems. The clamping profile is designed for Arca‑style compatible 38 mm quick‑release clamps (according to the manufacturer). If you already use an Arca‑style compatible tripod head or a corresponding quick‑release coupling, you can integrate the plate seamlessly and don’t have to rebuild or completely replan your system.

For more information on Arca‑style compatible components and suitable quick‑release clamps, take a look here: Arca‑style compatible solutions.

Thanks to its Arca‑style compatibility, the plate becomes a very flexible building block in your setup. You can combine it with various tripod heads, clamps and rails without committing to a proprietary system. Especially if you switch between studio, outdoor use and perhaps also video rigs, this openness is a real advantage.

With QD strap anchor mount for quick strap changes

A particularly practical detail: the Kirk PZ-134V2 features a QD strap mount, more precisely a QD strap anchor mount. It is QD compatible and allows you to attach or release a suitable strap with QD strap anchors in no time at all. This is especially helpful if you frequently switch between shoulder strap and tripod use and don’t want to constantly fiddle around with various straps.

To use this QD strap mount, you need a strap with QD strap anchors. Suitable straps and QD anchors can be found here: Straps with QD strap anchors.

In addition, there is a classic strap eyelet so that you can also use conventional neck straps or hand straps if needed. This keeps you flexible, whether you prefer to work with modern QD systems or rely on tried‑and‑tested straps that you may have been using for years.

Secure hold thanks to anti‑twist protection and safety stop screws

One of the underrated features of a good camera plate is anti‑twist protection. The Kirk PZ-134V2 has integrated anti‑twist protection or an anti‑twist stop that prevents the camera from twisting on the plate when you hold it at an angle, lift it or use it with a heavy lens. This becomes particularly noticeable with longer focal lengths or frequent switching between portrait and landscape orientation.

There are also 2 safety stop screws on the underside. These safety stop screws prevent the plate from accidentally sliding out of the quick‑release coupling if you don’t open the clamp fully or only half insert the camera in a stressful situation. It’s a small detail, but in an emergency it can save your camera from a fall.

The underside additionally offers one 1 x 1/4 UNC photo thread, so you can also mount the plate directly on compatible screw connections or combine it with additional accessories if needed. The sensor center mark is not present on this model, which is not a disadvantage in many everyday situations, since the focus here is clearly on universal usability, stability and quick handling.

Well‑thought‑out dimensions and universal usability

The Kirk PZ-134V2 is universally usable, which in practice means that it harmonizes with a wide range of cameras without being limited to a single model. The combination of 7.3 cm width, 4.4 cm depth and 6.0 cm profile length on the underside provides a stable contact surface that also works well with larger bodies. At the same time, the height of 1.4 cm remains pleasantly low, so the plate does not add excessive bulk to the camera.

We see this plate as a kind of reliable base: you mount it on the camera once and can then simply forget about it in everyday use because it doesn’t get in the way, doesn’t wobble and doesn’t interfere. Whether you are out on assignment with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, shooting landscapes with a FUJIFILM GFX 100 II or working in the studio with a Sony Alpha 7R V [ILCE-7RM5], the plate integrates into your setup unobtrusively but functionally.

The combination of QD compatible, ARCA compatible, universal and lightweight makes the Kirk PZ-134V2 a very versatile solution for photographers who value a tidy, reliable system. No unnecessary gimmicks, just solid engineering that quietly does its job in the background.
