Kirk PZ-185 camera plate for Canon EOS R5 & R6 with BG-R10
Kirk PZ-185 camera plate for Canon EOS R5 & R6 with BG-R10, precisely built for your everyday work in the field
You notice it immediately when a camera plate truly fits your camera and not just somehow. The Kirk PZ-185 is exactly such a part: a custom-made, camera-specific plate for the Canon EOS R5 with BG-R10, the Canon EOS R6 with BG-R10, as well as the Canon EOS R5 Mark II with BG-R20EP and BG-R20. It fits the battery grip perfectly, sits solidly without any play, and reliably prevents the camera from twisting on the tripod head. No retightening every two minutes, no annoying slipping during the shot.
The plate is not universal, but deliberately tailored to these Canon R models with battery grip. This way you use the full contact surface, get a stable base and can focus on what really matters when working: the image. With a weight of only 79.3 g, the setup remains pleasantly light, even though the plate is designed to be extremely robust.
Made in the USA, rugged 6061-T6 aluminum construction with black anodizing
The Kirk PZ-185 is made from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum, a material more commonly found in professional mechanical engineering than in cheap accessories. The material is precisely milled and then black anodized, resulting in a durable, matte surface that reduces reflections while feeling pleasant to the touch. This combination of stability and understated looks fits perfectly with current Canon EOS R bodies.
There is also a captive stainless steel screw that sits securely in the camera base plate. So you don’t have to constantly worry about the screw disappearing somewhere in the grass, at a wedding venue or between rocks. The overall workmanship feels very well thought out, more like a tool for professionals than just an accessory part.
Developed specifically for the following cameras, precise anti-twist protection instead of a makeshift solution
This camera plate is specifically designed for the following cameras: Canon EOS R5 with BG-R10, Canon EOS R6 with BG-R10, Canon EOS R5 Mark II with BG-R20EP and Canon EOS R5 Mark II with BG-R20. You notice this in the details: the contour of the plate follows the grip, and the contact surfaces are designed so that the camera is positively locked to the plate. This provides effective anti-twist protection and a stable stop, even when working with longer focal lengths or in portrait orientation.
Thanks to this precise fit, access to the most important controls and compartments is maintained while the camera is firmly connected to the plate. This creates a reliable setup for studio, reportage, landscape or video work, without you constantly having to fiddle with the mounting.
Arca-style compatible, seamlessly integrable into your quick-release system
The Kirk PZ-185 features a precise 38 mm dovetail profile that, according to the manufacturer, is Arca-style compatible and thus fits a wide range of quick-release clamps. These include, among others, ProMediaGear clamps, Wimberley clamps, Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, Jobu Design clamps, Kirk clamps, as well as the FlexShooter screw cross clamp. If you already use a compatible system, you can integrate the plate directly into your workflow without having to modify anything.
Since the camera plate is ARCA compatible, you can easily combine it with matching quick-release couplings. You can find more information on Arca-style compatible solutions here. This keeps your setup flexible, whether you are working with a ball head, geared head or gimbal.
With QD strap anchor mount, fast strap changes without fumbling
A practical detail that you quickly learn to appreciate: the PZ-185 is QD compatible and has an integrated QD strap mount. This allows you to attach straps with quick-detach strap anchors directly to the camera plate and detach or reattach them in seconds when needed. Especially when you switch between tripod use and handheld shooting, this is a real comfort gain.
To use this QD strap mount, you need a strap with suitable QD strap anchors. You can find corresponding straps and anchors here. In addition, there is a classic strap eyelet if you prefer to work with conventional camera straps or want to keep a second mounting option available.
Thought-out details: safety stop screws, sensor center marking and tripod thread
To ensure that your camera remains secure in the quick-release clamp even in critical situations, the Kirk PZ-185 is equipped with 2 safety stop screws. These prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release clamp, even if you have not fully opened the clamp or the camera is in an angled position. Especially during outdoor shoots or on uneven terrain, this provides noticeably more security.
Another useful detail is the integrated sensor center marking. This marking helps you find the optical axis of the camera precisely, which is essential for accurate alignment and for panoramic photography. If you are planning multi-row panoramas or very precise architectural shots, you will quickly find this marking indispensable.
On the underside you will also find a 1 x 1/4" UNC tripod thread. This allows you to mount the plate directly on a tripod, a quick-release base or other accessories if you ever want to work without an ARCA system. With a depth of 3.8 cm, the plate remains pleasantly compact and does not add unnecessary bulk.
