LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod - white

LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod, white, for low-angle photography

Sometimes the most impressive wildlife photos are not taken from above, not from a tripod at eye level, but directly from the ground. This is exactly where the LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod, white, feels at home. This special skimmer ground tripod was developed for low-angle work and allows you to photograph animals truly at eye level, whether waders on the mudflats, ducks on the shore or foxes in tall grass.

Thanks to its flat, circular shape, your camera sits extremely low, almost in direct contact with the ground. This gives you those soft, blurred foregrounds and the perspective that would otherwise only be possible with a lot of improvisation.

Lightweight polymer, 3D printed, robust and easy to carry

The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod is made of a lightweight polymer that is precisely manufactured using 3D printing. As a result, the skimmer weighs only about 0.315 kg. That is so little that you can easily carry it in your backpack, camera bag or simply in your hand all day long without really noticing it.

At the same time, the material is stable enough to confidently support heavy telephoto lenses. The combination of low weight and high rigidity makes the Ground Pod a reliable companion when you are out in the field and don’t want to lug around another heavy three-legged tripod.

Extremely low working height for a true ground perspective

With a minimum working height of about 2.3 cm, the ground tripod brings you as close to the surface as is hardly possible with classic tripod equipment. Your camera sits almost directly on the ground, yet remains clean and protected because it is securely fixed on the mounting platform.

Especially in telephoto work, this low position makes an enormous difference. The background becomes calmer, the angle of view appears more natural and the animals appear at eye level instead of being photographed from above. You can see that immediately in the image.

Sliding design for grass, mud, sand and snow

The circular design with a diameter of around 25.5 cm is not just a visual gimmick, but has a very practical purpose. The underside is smooth and slightly curved so that you can slide the equipment mounted on the Ground Pod over grass, mud, sand or snow without it digging in or getting stuck.

On wet ground such as tidal flats or mud, the skimmer practically glides along. The shape prevents dirt or water from splashing up and soiling your camera or lens. This allows you to work your way towards animals bit by bit without having to constantly set up again or crawl around awkwardly.

Ideal for wildlife photographers who want to get close

Anyone who photographs animals knows: the most exciting moments often happen just above the ground. The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod, white, is ideal for wildlife photographers who are looking for exactly this perspective and don’t want to improvise every time. Instead of placing the camera directly in the sand or fiddling with wobbly supports, you have a stable, defined base for your gear.

Especially with shy subjects such as waders, shorebirds or waterfowl, you can move forward in a controlled way with the skimmer. You simply push the tripod forward carefully while staying low and disturbing the animals as little as possible. This makes the work more relaxed and significantly increases your hit rate.

Designed for heavy super-telephotos up to 600 mm

The Ground Pod was specially developed for use with heavy telephoto lenses, including super-telephotos up to around 600 mm focal length. The stable construction supports these loads reliably without tipping or wobbling, as long as you balance the system sensibly.

On the mounting platform there is a 3/8 inch UNC photo thread mounting bolt. This allows you to attach common tripod heads directly, for example a gimbal or ball head, or a quick-release clamp from manufacturers such as Kirk or Wimberley. The Wimberley telephoto head WH-200 can also be mounted directly without additional risers.

If you do need a little more height or flexibility, you can easily add a suitable riser or another tripod head with a 3/8 inch thread. Compatibility with standard tripod threads gives you a lot of flexibility here.

Flexible use: gimbal, ball head and telephoto lenses

The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod is designed to work with most common tripod heads and telephoto lenses. Thanks to the standard 3/8 inch thread, you can use a gimbal head when you want to track fast movements of birds or wildlife, or a ball head when you want to work a bit more variably.

Thanks to the wide contact surface and the stable construction, the ground tripod is suitable for use with all common telephoto lenses, from moderate telephoto zooms to large prime lenses. This way, you can cover a wide range of telephoto photography with a single, very compact tripod.

Ideal in winter and on difficult surfaces

Especially in the cold season, the Ground Pod shows its strengths. On snow or frozen ground, the tripod glides surprisingly easily without sinking in. Your camera stays dry while you can work comfortably at ground level without having to lie directly in the snow.

The smooth underside also pays off on muddy meadows, muddy banks or tidal flats. Instead of sinking into the ground, the weight is distributed across the circular surface, allowing you to fine-tune your position again and again. This is practical when you need to react to changing light conditions or the movements of the animals.

Practical handling in the field

Weighing only about 315 g, the LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod is pleasantly light. You can hang it on your backpack, put it in a side pocket or simply carry it in your hand without it getting in the way. When in a hide or on longer walks, it hardly adds any weight.

Operation in the field is straightforward. You mount your tripod head or quick-release clamp on the 3/8 inch thread, attach camera and lens and you’re ready to go. No extending tripod legs, no lengthy adjustments, just a flat, stable platform that is ready for use immediately.

Clean equipment despite ground contact

Although you are working extremely close to the ground, your equipment is significantly better protected by the Ground Pod than if you were to place it directly on the ground. The curved underside prevents water or dirt from splashing up, and the material can easily be wiped clean if necessary.

This really pays off with repeated use in damp or sandy environments. Lens and camera stay cleaner, the seals are less stressed and you spend less time cleaning.

Optimized for low-angle work in nature

The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod, white, is aimed at anyone who wants to work seriously close to the ground without having to struggle with makeshift solutions. Whether you are photographing birds on the mudflats, amphibians at the edge of a pond or small mammals in a field, the skimmer provides you with a stable, flat base and a perspective that can visibly enhance your images.

Thanks to the combination of low weight, robust polymer construction, 3D-printed precision and the ability to use heavy telephoto lenses as well as gimbal or ball heads, this ground tripod is a very specialized but extremely helpful component of your kit when you are out in nature and want to get the most out of your telephoto photography.
