LENSCOAT Ground Pod Ground Tripod - Green
LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod, green for low-angle action
Sometimes the most exciting wildlife photos don’t come from your comfort zone, but directly from the ground, almost in the dirt. This is exactly where the LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod in green feels at home. It is a specialized skimmer ground tripod for extremely low-angle photography and telephotography when you really want to capture your subjects at eye level, whether shorebirds on the mudflats, ducks on the shore, or foxes at dawn in the meadow.
Thanks to the extremely low setup height of about 2.3 cm, you can get your camera and telephoto lens so close to the ground that your perspective almost feels like an animal’s point of view. This creates that typical soft background blur and an image effect that is difficult to achieve with a normal three-legged tripod.
Lightweight polymer, solidly built, made for the outdoors
The LENSCOAT Ground Pod is made of robust polymer using precise 3D printing. That may sound technical at first, but it has very practical benefits: the ground tripod is stable, rigid, and at the same time surprisingly light. Weighing only about 0.315 kg, it can be easily carried in a backpack, camera bag, or simply on a strap without feeling like you’re lugging around half a sack of cement.
The material easily withstands moisture, cold, and dirt in normal outdoor use. Especially if you spend a lot of time on mudflats, at lakes, in wetlands, or in snow, this polymer shows its strengths because it does not swell and does not rust. In the best sense, it is low-maintenance.
Round skimmer design with 25 cm diameter
The Ground Pod is constructed as a perfect circle and has a diameter of about 25 cm. This round skimmer shape is no coincidence; it ensures that you can slide your mounted equipment across a wide variety of surfaces. Grass, mud, sand, snow—the ground tripod can be pushed across all these surfaces without constantly getting stuck or having to jerkily readjust the camera.
The specially curved underside prevents the Ground Pod from digging into soft ground. At the same time, the smooth underside reduces splashing dirt and water, so that camera and lens stay clean and dry. Especially in mud or on mudflats, it is convenient when you can simply pull or push the setup a bit forward instead of having to reposition everything from scratch each time.
Ideal for wildlife photographers who want to work at eye level
Anyone who photographs animals knows: perspective often makes the difference between a nice snapshot and an image that sticks in your mind. The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod is ideal for wildlife photographers who don’t want to shoot their subjects from above, but truly at eye level. It really comes into its own with low-ground species such as shorebirds, waders, amphibians, or small mammals.
You can lie flat, rest the camera on the Ground Pod, and slowly work your way toward your subject without constantly having to move the tripod. This is not only quieter but also less conspicuous, which is often crucial in wildlife photography. And on top of that, you protect your gear because it’s not lying directly in wet grass or mud.
Designed for heavy telephoto lenses up to 600 mm
The Ground Pod was specially designed for use with heavy super-telephoto lenses up to 600 mm focal length. For you, this means that even large telephoto lenses that you would normally only use on massive three-legged tripods will find a stable base here. The construction distributes the weight evenly across the round surface so that the ground tripod stands securely and glides smoothly even with heavier setups.
Whether you use a 300 mm, 400 mm, 500 mm, or 600 mm telephoto lens makes little difference. The tripod is designed for telephotography and supports you in low-angle work with long focal lengths, where every small movement becomes visible. The low height additionally helps to minimize camera shake because the center of gravity is very close to the ground.
3/8 inch UNC photo thread for common tripod heads
In the center of the LENSCOAT Ground Pod there is a 3/8 inch UNC photo thread mounting bolt. This standard size is compatible with almost all common tripod heads. You can easily mount a gimbal, ball head, or quick-release clamp from manufacturers such as Wimberley or Kirk directly.
The combination with a gimbal head is particularly popular when you want to balance large telephoto lenses and still pan flexibly. But a compact ball head also works very well if you frequently switch between portrait and landscape orientation or need a bit more flexibility in your composition.
Direct mounting of Wimberley WH-200 and quick-release clamps
The Ground Pod allows direct mounting of the Wimberley WH-200 gimbal head without the need for additional risers. This is especially practical if you want to use your telephoto lens with a tilt head but still stay as low as possible. Quick-release clamps, for example from Kirk or Wimberley, can also be mounted directly on the 3/8 inch mounting bolt.
If you ever need a bit more height, you can insert a suitable riser between the ground tripod and the head as needed. The design is such that appropriate adapters or intermediate plates can be integrated without any problem, without compromising the basic stability.
Gliding on mud, sand, snow, and grass
A key advantage of this skimmer ground tripod is the way it moves across different surfaces. The smooth underside allows for even gliding over mud, sand, snow, or short grass. You can fine-tune your position by simply pushing the Ground Pod a bit forward, backward, or sideways instead of awkwardly lifting everything each time.
On muddy ground, the curved shape prevents the tripod from getting stuck or sinking in. At the same time, splashing mud and water is significantly reduced, which can quickly become a problem with very low camera positions. This way your equipment remains better protected while you can fully concentrate on your composition.
Practical in use, comfortable to carry
With its low weight of about 303 to 315 g (depending on measurement method and configuration), the Ground Pod is an uncomplicated companion for longer photo tours. It fits easily into many backpacks or camera bags and can also be attached on the outside without adding much weight. For low-angle work, the ground tripod is a useful addition to a classic three-legged tripod; it does not replace it, but expands your options.
Especially when traveling or on long hikes to remote spots, it’s nice when the extra tripod doesn’t become a burden. You simply take it along in case an opportunity for low-angle wildlife photography arises, and you don’t have to think long about whether the extra weight is worth it.
Suitable for telephoto lenses and flexible tripod heads
The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod is designed for use with all common telephoto lenses. Whether you use a fast 300 mm, a 100–400 mm zoom, or a classic 500 mm telephoto, the tripod provides a stable base. In combination with a gimbal or ball head, you can set up your rig so that it remains both stable and mobile.
The combination of low setup height, round skimmer design, and standard 3/8 inch photo thread makes the ground tripod a versatile tool for low-angle photography. Especially in telephotography, where long focal lengths make every tiny movement visible, you benefit from the low and wide support surface.
Low-angle work without compromises
If you often work close to the ground, you know the problem: either the camera lies directly in the dirt, or the tripod is simply too high. The LENSCOAT Ground Pod floor tripod closes exactly this gap. It allows you to position your camera extremely low without sacrificing stability, while at the same time protecting your equipment from direct contact with damp or dirty ground.
Whether on mudflats, at the beach, on snow-covered surfaces, or in wet meadows, the ground tripod ensures that your camera rests securely while still being easy to move. You can focus on your subject while the Ground Pod quietly plays its important role in the background as a stable base.
