Leofoto LH-25 ball head with PU-25 camera plate

Leofoto LH-25 ball head with PU-25 camera plate: small, but not squeamish

You know how it is: you “just quickly” want to set up the tripod, and suddenly the setup feels like moving box number seven. That’s exactly where the Leofoto LH-25 ball head comes in. Tiny. Period. And still surprisingly sturdy when it matters.

With a height of 6.7 cm it stays pleasantly compact, and at 172 g it almost feels like a featherweight. Although, to be fair: the specs say 0.178 kg; depending on measurement and accessories that’s about right. What matters is what it can do. And it can carry up to 6 kg, smoothly and in a controlled way.

25 mm ball, big lever, clear control

Inside, a ball with a diameter of 25 mm does the work. That’s not “show”, that’s practical: you get precise movements that don’t feel mushy, and a lock that means business before the third round of tightening.

To loosen and lock the ball you use a large operating lever. It’s easy to grab, even when it’s cold or you’re in reportage mode. Short twist, locked. Or free again.

Arca-style compatible screw clamp and PU-25 camera plate

The clamp accepts what the manufacturer calls an Arca-style compatible 38 mm dovetail mount. Clamping is done via a screw clamp – classic, reliable, no rush. You tighten it, it holds. Done.

On top of that you get the PU-25 camera plate. Handy, because you don’t first have to dig around for a matching plate.

Panorama base, bubble level and tripod connection: made for alignment

For smooth pans, the LH-25 has a separate panorama base. Especially in panoramic photography that makes the difference, because you can rotate horizontally without messing up the ball position. Align once, then let it run.

A bubble level is built in. One. That’s enough. It helps you level quickly when the ground is “creative” again – meadow, cobblestones, slope, you know the deal.

The connection to the tripod is via a 3/8 inch UNC internal thread.

Material and manufacturing: CNC-milled aluminum, partially anodized

The ball head is made of high-strength aircraft-grade aluminum, CNC-milled and partially anodized. That sounds technical, but it’s exactly why the piece feels so “made from one block”. No rattly transitions, no flimsy feel. Just a cleanly built ball head.

And because it’s not just about studio work: we recommend it for mirrorless and DSLR cameras, for travel photography, reportage photography, landscape photography, architectural photography and telephoto work. Even medium format is possible, as long as you keep an eye on the 6 kg load limit.
