Leofoto LM-402C Summit carbon tripod

Leofoto LM-402C Summit carbon tripod for heavy setups and low-angle perspectives

If you’re looking for a compact but really load-bearing tripod, the Leofoto LM-402C Summit carbon tripod is a candidate that quickly “sticks”. It’s designed as a three-legged tripod and built specifically to carry heavy gear stably, even when you’re working very close to the ground. Especially for macro, architecture, or studio work, this calm, solid base matters—and yes, sometimes it’s simply about the feeling that nothing wobbles.

With a minimum working height of 8.0 cm you can get extremely low. And it still remains practical: the folded length is around 30 cm, to be precise 298 mm. That’s short enough that it doesn’t constantly get in the way in your backpack, but it’s definitely not a “toy tripod”.

Stability through 10-layer carbon and large tube diameters

The legs are made from 10-layer carbon. That’s not just a marketing term—it’s noticeable in the rigidity, especially at longer focal lengths. For telephoto and landscape photography this is a real advantage, because you pick up fewer micro-vibrations when wind or ground conditions aren’t perfect.

Leofoto uses robust leg sections here with diameters of 40 mm and 36 mm. Each leg has 2 sections, so deliberately few joints, which again benefits stability. The tripod weighs 1.580 kg, which at first doesn’t sound ultra-light, but in this load-bearing class it’s quite reasonable. Speaking of which: the maximum load capacity is 50 kg. That’s plenty of reserve, even for heavy telephoto combinations or video rigs.

Height range, leg angles, and flexible working

You work between a minimum height of 80 mm and a maximum height of 415 mm, i.e. up to 0.415 m. This makes the LM-402C clearly designed for low-angle shots, macro photography, and stable low-angle setups, and less for “eye level while standing”. But that’s exactly what it’s intended for.

The three leg angle settings of 23°, 55°, and 85° are practical. This lets you quickly switch from a relatively flat, stable stance to a very widely splayed, extremely low position. For working close to the ground this is worth its weight in gold, and in architecture or studio work it helps when you need to get exactly where the available space allows.

100 mm bowl mount, bubble level, and optional accessories

The tripod comes with a 100 mm bowl mount, and a matching 100 mm half ball is included. This is especially interesting if you work with video heads or leveling solutions and want to level quickly and accurately.

A bubble level is also integrated—one small bubble level, but surprisingly helpful in everyday use. And if you want to expand your setup later: a center column can be added as an option. A leveling base can also be retrofitted as an option. In short, you’re not buying into a dead end, but into a system that can grow with you.

Scope of delivery and details for outdoor and studio use

The scope of delivery includes a removable tripod plate, the 100 mm half ball, rubber feet, and additional stainless-steel spikes. This means you’re well equipped for both smooth floors and soft ground, depending on what you’re shooting.

Also included is a padded carrying bag, deliberately 10 to 15 cm longer than the tripod. That may sound like a small detail, but it’s convenient because you can often store additional accessories, for example a tripod head, without it being squeezed in or constantly getting stuck.
