Leofoto LM-404C Summit carbon tripod
Leofoto LM-404C Summit carbon tripod: large, stable, amazingly versatile
If you’re looking for a three-legged tripod that doesn’t just “also” support heavy gear but is built exactly for that purpose, you’ll very quickly end up at the Leofoto LM-404C Summit. With a maximum working height of up to 1.80 m it is the tallest tripod in the Summit series while still remaining pleasantly manageable. Despite its robust construction, the weight is about 2.5 kg and the transport length is 65 cm. Sounds like a lot of tripod – and it is – but without unnecessary ballast.
The carbon is 10-layer wound, and you notice that in everyday use: stiff, calm, very little vibration. Especially with longer focal lengths or when conditions outside get a bit rougher.
Legs, angles, height: from 11.5 cm close to the ground up to 1.80 m at eye level
Each leg has 4 sections, with diameters of 40, 36, 32 and 28 mm. These dimensions are not just numbers; they’re the reason why the LM-404C stands so solidly, even when you use a heavy combination of camera and head. The maximum load capacity is 40 kg.
To adapt to terrain and working style there are three leg angle settings: 23°, 55° and 85°. This lets you get very low; the minimum working height is 11.5 cm. Working close to the ground is genuinely fun with this, not just “somehow possible”. And if you prefer to work in a more classic way: set up to 1.80 m it’s comfortably tall for many setups, without you having to bend over all the time.
100 mm bowl mount: made for video and precise leveling
The tripod has a 100 mm bowl mount, matching the included 100 mm video half ball. This is practical when you want to level quickly, for example with video setups or precisely aligned architectural subjects. A bubble level is also on board, just once, but exactly where you need it.
For anyone wanting to expand their setup later: a center column can be retrofitted as an option. A leveling base can also be retrofitted as an option. We like this openness because it lets you adapt the tripod to your way of working rather than the other way round.
Recommended for landscape, telephoto, macro, architecture and studio
We especially recommend the Leofoto LM-404C Summit carbon tripod for landscape photography, telephoto photography, low-angle work, macro photography, architectural photography and studio photography. That’s quite a broad list, yes, but it fits: high rigidity for telephoto, a very low working height for macro, and the 100 mm bowl solution is a classic in the studio or for video anyway.
