Leofoto LPSO-A1 L-bracket for Sony Alpha A1 & A9 III
Leofoto LPSO-A1 L-bracket for Sony Alpha A1 & A9 III, precise control for your pro body
If you’re seriously putting your Sony Alpha 1 or Alpha 9 III on a tripod, you don’t want to improvise – you want a solution that simply fits. The Leofoto LPSO-A1 L-bracket is built exactly for that: it allows you to mount your camera both in landscape and portrait orientation absolutely stable and with repeatable precision on a compatible tripod head, without having to completely rebalance the head every time. This way you change orientation while the framing remains largely the same – very pleasant, especially for architecture, portraits or calm reportage work.
Made from robust 6061-T6 aluminum and black anodized, the L-bracket weighs only about 80 g, but in handling it feels significantly more substantial than the numbers suggest. The surface is cleanly finished, the edges are pleasantly deburred, and the whole thing feels more like a precision tool than an accessory. In short: mount it, tighten it, forget it until you need it again.
specifically optimized for the following cameras: Sony Alpha 1 & Sony Alpha 9 III
The LPSO-A1 is not universal, but designed with a form-fit for two very specific models: the Sony Alpha 1 and the Sony Alpha 9 III [ILCE-9M3]. This means the contour of the bracket follows the camera body very closely, the contact surfaces engage exactly where they should, and the anti-twist protection ensures that the camera does not shift unnoticed on the plate. Especially with longer focal lengths or continuous shooting, you’ll notice how valuable this is, because the framing remains stable.
Thanks to this precise shaping, the L-bracket sits close to the camera without unnecessarily blocking controls. Changing memory cards, using ports, swapping batteries – all of this remains easily accessible in everyday use, so you don’t constantly have to unscrew things just to reach the basics. It’s not a compromise piece, but a specifically tuned tool for exactly these two Sony flagships.
with QD strap socket, quickly from tripod to strap
A practical detail that’s easy to overlook but worth its weight in gold in everyday use: the LPSO-A1 has an integrated QD strap socket. This lets you snap a suitable camera strap with QD strap anchors directly into the L-bracket, without additional adapters or carabiners. This makes switching between tripod use and carry configuration very straightforward: take the camera off, click in the strap, move on.
To use the QD strap socket you need a strap with suitable QD strap anchors. You can find more about this here: QD strap anchors. If you’re on the move a lot, maybe switching between studio, outdoor locations and reportage, you’ll very quickly no longer want to be without this flexibility.
Arca-style compatible, clamp directly into suitable quick-release clamps
The Leofoto LPSO-A1 is ARCA compatible and follows the Arca-style standard for 38 mm quick-release clamps. According to the manufacturer, the clamping profile fits a wide range of common systems: Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps and also Kirk clamps. So if your tripod head works with a corresponding Arca-style compatible quick-release coupling, you can clamp the L-bracket directly, without additional adapters or special plates.
This makes the LPSO-A1 a pretty universal link in your setup: tripod head, slider, macro rail or clamp – wherever Arca-style compatible mounts are involved, you can securely attach the camera with this L-bracket. Horizontal or vertical, just as the situation requires.
Laterally extendable L-component and modular use
A special feature of this model is the laterally extendable L-component. You can extend the side part of the bracket a little to make side ports, cables or flaps more accessible, for example, without having to completely remove the L-bracket every time. This is especially convenient when you’re working with tethering, microphones or HDMI recorders and want to route the cables cleanly without them bumping into anything.
In addition, the L-component is removable. This means you can also use the LPSO-A1 as a pure camera plate without the vertical part if you want to travel particularly compact. This tip is especially interesting if you often take your camera out of the bag and don’t always need the full L-bracket, but still don’t want to do without a solid ARCA-compatible base.
Thought-out details: threads, strap eyelet, magnetic hex key
On the underside of the L-bracket you’ll find several threaded holes: three 1/4 inch UNC photo threads and one 3/8 inch UNC photo thread. This allows you to attach additional accessories or mount the bracket directly on various tripods, adapters or quick-release bases if you ever want to work without a classic Arca-style clamp.
An integrated strap eyelet is also available if you prefer to work with classic straps or safety lanyards. Also practical is the magnetic holder for the included hex key: the key is included and can be stored directly on the L-bracket, so you don’t have to keep looking for it when you want to make adjustments or remove the L-component.
Laser-engraved sensor center mark for precise alignment
The LPSO-A1 features a cleanly laser-engraved sensor center mark. This marking helps you determine the optical axis of the camera precisely and align the position on the tripod head accordingly. Especially in panoramic photography such a reference is almost indispensable, because it allows you to set the axis of rotation much more accurately and thus obtain clean, easily stitchable panoramas.
This marking is also helpful for architectural or product photography when you want to work very precisely and position the camera exactly at the center of a rotation or shift. It’s a small detail that may seem inconspicuous at first, but can make a noticeable difference in practical use.
Compact dimensions, low weight, high stability
Despite its solid construction, the LPSO-A1 remains pleasantly compact. With a width of about 10.0 cm, a height of around 8.9 cm and a depth of approximately 3.9 cm, it does not take up unnecessary space on the camera. The weight is about 80 g, which is very moderate in relation to its stability. It hardly adds any weight in the camera bag, but on the camera it provides significantly more confident handling on the tripod.
The combination of 6061-T6 aluminum and black anodized finish ensures a resilient surface that easily withstands typical everyday use. Scratches, light knocks, frequent clamping and unclamping in quick-release clamps – this material is designed exactly for that. It’s not spectacular, but reliable, and that is ultimately what matters with an L-bracket.
Stable mounting in landscape and portrait on your tripod head
With this L-bracket you can securely mount your camera both horizontally and vertically on your tripod head that works according to the Arca-style standard. You clamp the camera in landscape orientation in the quick-release clamp, release it when needed, insert it again in portrait orientation and keep a very similar position above the tripod center. This reduces shifts in framing and prevents the camera’s center of gravity from “tipping off” to the side.
Especially during longer shoots where you frequently switch between portrait and landscape orientation, you’ll notice how much more relaxed it is to work with a well-fitting L-bracket. You don’t have to keep tilting the tripod head into extreme angles, the camera remains better balanced and the risk of camera shake decreases. It’s a classic “mount once, benefit long-term” accessory.
