Leofoto MT-03 mini tripod: small, stable, surprisingly versatile
If you’re looking for a mini tripod that doesn’t just “somehow” stand, but really gives you room to work, the Leofoto MT-03 is a pretty good choice. It’s a classic three-legged tripod, but with these distinctive, spider-like legs that can be adjusted individually. That’s exactly what makes it so pleasant in practice: on a table, on the ground, on an uneven wall, even on sloping surfaces where other minis quickly give up.
The MT-03 is made from sturdy aircraft-grade aluminum, neatly finished and pleasantly unobtrusive in your bag. Folded, it measures around 15 cm in transport length, i.e. about 0.15 m, and at 0.162 kg it remains light enough that you really do just take it with you. Not just “could”.
Spider legs with defined spread angles, each leg on its own
You fold out the legs via hinges, and then comes the part you quickly learn to appreciate: each leg can be angled separately. Using sliders, you choose predefined spread angles of 35°, 55° or 85°. It sounds technical, but in everyday use it’s simple. You set up the tripod the way the surface requires, not the other way around. And yes, it has three legs, as it should, just much more flexible than many other mini tripods.
Each leg has two sections. This keeps the whole thing compact, but still gives you a decent range of working heights: the MT-03 goes down to 3.5 cm when you want to get really close to the ground, and up to a maximum of 0.186 m, i.e. 18.6 cm. For macros, product photos, small setups or as a travel companion for your camera in a hotel room, this is exactly the kind of height you need more often than you’d think.
Load capacity up to 3 kg and many threads for accessories
With such a small format, stability is always the question. The Leofoto MT-03 is designed for a load capacity of up to 3 kg when you mount directly on the 1/4" UNC thread. This makes it a good match for many mirrorless cameras, compact DSLRs or accessory setups, as long as you stay within that range.
And then there are these threads that you quickly grow to love: the upper sections of all three legs each have five 1/4" UNC threads. So you can mount additional accessories, for example a magic arm, a small LED, a microphone, a monitor, or whatever you happen to need. At first it seems like a detail, but in practice it’s a real advantage, because you often save yourself extra clamps or improvised mounts.
For photo, video and on the go, without any fuss
The MT-03 is not a huge studio tripod, and it doesn’t want to be. It’s more of an “always with you” mini tripod that quickly gives you a stable base when you need it. Thanks to its small packed size of 145 mm and low weight of 162 g, it fits into many bags, and once you have it with you, you suddenly use it more often than expected.
All in all, you get a compact Leofoto mini tripod made of aluminum, with a maximum working height of 18.6 cm, a minimum working height of 3.5 cm, two sections per leg, a 3 kg load capacity with direct mounting, and plenty of 1/4" UNC options for accessories. It sounds like just numbers, yes, but it’s exactly these numbers that make it so straightforward in everyday use.
