Leofoto MT-01 mini tripod: small, but not squeamish

You know how it is: you “just quickly” want to take a photo, put the camera down somewhere, and bam, it slides away like a puck on ice. The Leofoto MT-01 mini tripod is made exactly for these moments. Tiny in your bag, surprisingly stable in use. And yes, we’re a bit enthusiastic about it, because it works so wonderfully unpretentiously.

When closed, the MT-01 is only 150 mm long. Truly pocket-sized. On top of that, it weighs just 0.168 kg, made from 6061-T6 aluminium – that robust aircraft-grade aluminium that doesn’t get offended right away when things get a bit rough on the road. In short: you take it with you without thinking about it. And that’s exactly the trick.

Stability you wouldn’t expect from a lightweight

168 g may sound like “toy” at first. But it isn’t. The maximum load capacity is 6.0 kg, and in practice that’s pretty reassuring when you mount a heavier camera or a setup with head and accessories. It almost seems unfair how much this little three-legged tripod can handle.

And then the height: with a maximum working height of 1.5 m, the MT-01 doesn’t just play on the table. Sure, it remains a mini tripod, but it can do more than just “sit on the windowsill and look nice”. Sometimes you need exactly this kind of piece of kit that doesn’t make a fuss, it just delivers.

The MT-01 isn’t tied to a single role. It’s a three-legged tripod, table tripod, ground tripod and mini tripod all in one, depending on where you place it and how you work. For travel photography that’s worth its weight in gold, because you don’t want to unpack the big gear every time. For low-angle work anyway. And in macro photography, well, every stable millimetre counts.

What we like about it: it feels like a small tool that always has an idea. Not always perfect, but often just right. A companion you eventually pack automatically. Always with you, done.

Continuously adjustable leg angles, folding resistance to your taste

The leg angles can be adjusted continuously. Not “click, click, done”, but finely, just as you need it. At the same time, the folding resistance can be individually adjusted so that the legs neither dangle limply nor clamp stubbornly. And yes, we admit it: we like it when you can simply set something like this just right without any drama.

There are rubber feet at the ends of the legs. That sounds unspectacular, but on smooth surfaces it’s the difference between “stands” and “still slips”. Especially on stone, glass or smooth floors, the MT-01 gives a pleasantly secure impression. Not over the top, just stable. That’ll do.

Thread setup: 1/4 UNC plus 3/8 UNC adapter, straightforward in everyday use

For the tripod thread, Leofoto uses a 1/4 UNC threaded stud, including a 3/8 UNC adapter. Which means for you: you’re flexible, whether you want to mount a camera, a small ball head or other accessories. No fiddling, no “damn, wrong thread”. Screw it on, align it, go.

And because everyday use is what counts: the MT-01 is the kind of piece you don’t have to explain. You unfold it, put it down, and it does its job. Period. Maybe that’s exactly why you eventually miss it when it’s not with you.

For on the go, for close-up, for “oh come on, one more photo”

As an always-with-you tripod, the Leofoto MT-01 is pleasantly unobtrusive. It doesn’t push itself into the spotlight, it takes up hardly any space, and yet you have a stable base for travel photography, macro photography and low-angle perspectives. Those little viewpoints that often get skipped because you don’t feel like lugging big gear. Not here.

If you’re looking for a mini tripod that doesn’t feel like a compromise, but like “practical, cleanly done”, then the MT-01 is a very sensible choice. Not fancy. Just good.
