The perfect hoodie for your lens

Reliable protective cap for the sensitive front lens
The front lens of a lens is one of the most sensitive and at the same time most important components of your camera equipment. Even small scratches, dust particles or impacts can impair image quality in the long term or make expensive repairs necessary. Especially for high-quality lenses, particularly reliable protection is therefore worthwhile.
The LensCoat Hoodie was developed precisely for this purpose. This special lens cap not only protects the front lens, but also the front area of the lens. In contrast to classic lens caps, it offers a padded protective layer that absorbs impacts while keeping dust, moisture and dirt away.
More security than conventional lens caps
Most lenses are supplied with simple plastic caps. These do protect the glass surface from dust, but only offer limited protection against mechanical stress. Especially during transport in a camera backpack or in hectic situations in the field, such caps can easily come off or provide only insufficient protection.
The LensCoat Hoodie follows a different concept. Instead of sitting directly on the filter thread, it is pulled over the lens hood or the front part of the lens. This creates a padded protective cap that covers a larger area and at the same time offers significantly more impact protection.
Robust material combination with protective disc and padding
The Hoodie consists of several functional components that together provide effective protection.
On the inside there is a sturdy plastic protective disc, which is surrounded by firm foam padding. This construction forms a stable barrier in front of the front lens and prevents pressure or impacts from being transferred directly to the glass.
The outside is made of flexible neoprene. This material is elastic, shock-absorbing and at the same time very durable. It ensures that the cap sits securely and adapts perfectly to the shape of the lens.
This combination creates a protective solution that:
- cushions impacts
- reliably covers the front lens
- remains lightweight and flexible
- can be attached or removed quickly
Flexible use: with or without lens hood
A major advantage of the LensCoat Hoodie is its flexible use. The protective cap can be used both with the lens hood mounted and directly on the lens without a hood.
Which size is required therefore depends on how you usually transport or store your lens. If you want to pull the Hoodie over the lens hood, you must take the diameter of the hood into account. If you use it directly over the lens barrel without a hood, the diameter of the lens is decisive.
Thanks to the different size options, a suitable solution can be found for both variants.
Suitable variants for many lens diameters
Lenses come in a wide variety of diameters, from small standard lenses to large super-telephotos. That’s why LensCoat offers the Hoodie in numerous sizes. Each variant covers a specific diameter range.
Size overview of the LensCoat Hoodies
- XX Small – for diameters from 2.25" to 2.75" (approx. 5.7 cm to 7.0 cm)
- X Small – for diameters from 2.75" to 3.25" (approx. 7.0 cm to 8.3 cm)
- Small – for diameters from 3.25" to 3.75" (approx. 8.3 cm to 9.5 cm)
- Medium – for diameters from 3.75" to 4.25" (approx. 9.5 cm to 10.8 cm)
- Large – for diameters from 4.25" to 4.75" (approx. 10.8 cm to 12.1 cm)
- X Large – for diameters from 4.75" to 5.25" (approx. 12.1 cm to 13.3 cm)
- XX Large – for diameters from 5.5" to 6.25" (approx. 14.0 cm to 15.9 cm)
- XXX Large – for diameters from 6.25" to 7" (approx. 15.9 cm to 17.8 cm)
- XXXX Large – for diameters from 7" to 7.75" (approx. 17.8 cm to 19.7 cm)
Thanks to this wide range, a suitable size is available for almost every lens, from compact primes to large super-telephotos.
Practical for backpacks, outdoor use and travel
The Hoodie is particularly practical if you frequently transport your equipment. When stowed in a camera backpack, it protects the front lens from contact with other lenses, camera bodies, zippers or metal parts.
It can also be helpful for outdoor shoots. When you set your lens down for a short time or transport it, it prevents dust, sand or moisture from reaching the front lens.
Sensible addition to the LensCoat protection system
The Hoodie is part of a well-thought-out protection system from LensCoat. Protection becomes particularly effective when several products are combined.
The LensCoat lens cover consists of segmented neoprene elements that can remain permanently on the lens. It protects the lens barrel from scratches and light impacts while shooting.
The LensCoat TravelCoat on the other hand is a closed cover for transport and storage. It is pulled over the lens when it is stowed in a backpack or suitcase.
The Hoodie complements both products perfectly:
- LensCoat protects the lens barrel
- TravelCoat protects the lens during transport
- Hoodie protects the sensitive front lens
This combination creates a complete protection system for your lens, both during transport and while shooting.
Color variants and camouflage patterns for different applications
LensCoat Hoodies are available in various colors and camouflage patterns. In addition to classic variants such as black, there are also camouflage patterns that are particularly popular with nature photographers.
- Digital Camo
- Realtree Max5
- Realtree Snow
- Forest Green
These camouflage patterns help to visually break up the contours of the equipment in natural environments and attract less attention.
Selecting the correct size
Selecting the right Hoodie is straightforward. Simply measure the diameter of your lens hood or lens and compare it with the size specifications. It is important that you take into account whether you want to use the Hoodie with or without a lens hood.
The elastic neoprene ensures that the Hoodie sits securely, even if the diameter is not exactly in the middle of the size range.
Summary: compact yet effective
The LensCoat Hoodie is a simple yet highly effective way to protect your lens’s sensitive front element. The combination of a sturdy protective disc, shock-absorbing neoprene and flexible design offers significantly more security than classic lens caps.
Thanks to the wide range of sizes and the option of using the Hoodie with or without a lens hood, a suitable solution can be found for almost any lens. In combination with the LensCoat lens cover and the TravelCoat, a well-designed protection system is created for your entire camera equipment.
