If you’re looking for a tripod that doesn’t need a debate about whether it will still fit in your backpack: the Leofoto Ranger LS-223C made of carbon is exactly that kind of candidate. Ultra-compact, pleasantly light and still durable. With the included LH-25 ball head you get a complete set, a three-legged tripod with head that practically suggests itself for many trips and small setups.
What we especially like about the LS-223C is this unpretentious mix of packed size and load capacity. 0.72 kg of weight is quickly packed in practice, and the tripod still supports up to 6.0 kg of payload. Sounds like mini, but doesn’t feel wobbly.
Working heights that matter in practice: 10.5 cm to 38 cm
The minimum setup height is 10.5 cm. This gets you really close to the ground, which often makes the difference for low-angle work and macro photography, because you don’t have to mess around with improvised supports. At the same time, you reach a maximum setup height of 0.38 m, i.e. 38 cm. That’s not “eye level”, of course, but for low-angle perspectives, tabletop, small landscape sections or trips where every gram counts, it fits surprisingly often.
And yes, it’s a classic three-legged tripod. Each leg has 3 sections, which strikes a good compromise between stability and short length. On top of that you get 3 adjustable leg spread angles, so you don’t have to give up immediately on uneven ground, but can level the tripod cleanly.
For mirrorless, travel and landscape, plus macro without contortions
The set is recommended for mirrorless cameras, travel photography and landscape photography, and you can tell. It’s quick to set up, disappears just as quickly again and doesn’t take up “tripod is its own piece of luggage” space in your gear. For macro photography, the low working height is a real advantage, and when working close to the ground the whole setup remains pleasantly controllable because you’re not constantly working at the limit of stability.
The integrated bubble level is practical as well. A small thing, but when you’re on the go and don’t want a crooked horizon, such a level is simply helpful.
LH-25 ball head and Arca-style compatible clamp
The LH-25 ball head is included here and completes the setup. According to the manufacturer, the clamp accepts an Arca-style compatible 38 mm dovetail clamp. If you already use ARCA plates, that’s convenient because you don’t have to rebuild everything. And if you’re just getting started, it’s a system you can easily expand later.
Transport length, accessories and what’s really included in the set
When you’re on the road, transport length often ends up being what really matters. Here it’s 30 cm, so the tripod fits into many camera bags and backpacks, sometimes even upright, without constantly getting caught on something. The material is carbon, so stiff and at the same time light – exactly what you want from a travel tripod.
The scope of delivery includes the LS-223C tripod itself and the LH-25 ball head. There is also a padded carrying bag, a multitool and a hex key. For more grip on soft or slippery surfaces, 3 spikes are additionally included.
