Leofoto Ranger LS-324C carbon tripod with LH-40 ball head

Leofoto Ranger LS-324C carbon tripod with LH-40 ball head: stable, compact, ready for the outdoors

If you’re looking for a tripod that doesn’t just “cope” with telephoto focal lengths in nature but actually keeps them steady, the Leofoto Ranger LS-324C fits the bill quite well. We’re talking about a three-legged carbon tripod combined with the LH-40 ball head – a tripod with head that arrives ready for immediate use. Despite its robust design, it’s pleasantly easy to transport because the tripod shoulder is slim and the packed length is around 57 to 58 cm. And yes, in practice that’s often exactly the difference between “comes along” and “stays in the car”.

With the ball head, the weight is about 1.88 to 1.9 kg. Not ultra-light, but honestly: for the stability you get, that’s a very fair figure.

Working heights that really help in everyday use: from close to the ground up to 1.70 m

The LS-324C covers a wide range. At the bottom end it goes down to about 16.5 to 17 cm minimum height, which is really practical for low-angle work and macro photography, especially when you don’t want to start “fiddling around” in the field. At the top end you reach a maximum setup height of about 1.705 m, or roughly 1.7 m when you use the center column.

Without the center column extended, but with the ball head mounted, the maximum working height is around 1.39 m. That’s often the height at which you notice how pleasant a tripod without a wobbly extension can be. Still, if you need those last few centimeters, the center column is there.

Carbon construction and leg sections: noticeably stiff, well graded

The legs are made of carbon, specifically 10-layer wrapped material. That’s not just a marketing term; you can feel the difference in vibrations, especially in telephoto work or when you’re shooting longer exposures at dusk. Each leg has 4 sections with diameters of 32, 28, 25 and 22 mm. This gradation is sensibly chosen because the tripod doesn’t become unnecessarily “thin” at the bottom and still retains plenty of stiffness reserves at the top.

The maximum load capacity is 15 kg. That’s plenty, even if you’re working with a larger telephoto lens, L-bracket or additional accessories. For hide photography, landscape photography or reportage photography, this setup is pleasantly versatile. It also works well for travel photography because the overall package remains compact without forcing you to compromise on stability right away.

LH-40 ball head and quick release: ARCA compatible, 38 mm dovetail

The included LH-40 ball head is a suitable choice for a set in this class because it feels stable and can be adjusted finely enough when you want to frame precisely. According to the manufacturer, the clamp is Arca-style compatible and accepts a 38 mm dovetail plate. In everyday use this is simply convenient because you’re not forced into an exotic quick-release system but can work with common plates and brackets.

Center column, accessory port and details you quickly learn to appreciate

The center column is included and can be screwed on; the scope of delivery includes a telescopic carbon center column DC-282C. For situations where you need a bit more height or want to get the camera over an obstacle, this is a straightforward solution. In addition, there is an Easylink accessory thread in the tripod shoulder so you can mount accessories like an arm, holder or other equipment directly on the tripod without having to improvise.

There is also an integrated weight hook at the bottom of the column. When it gets windy or the ground is unstable, you can hang weight on it and noticeably calm everything down. It’s one of those details you only miss when it’s not there.

Scope of delivery: everything you actually use outdoors

The set includes the LS-324C tripod and the LH-40 ball head. We also include three stainless steel spikes that you can use instead of the standard feet when needed, for example on forest floor, snow or soft ground. For handling and minor adjustments there is a multi-tool plus a hex key. And so the whole setup doesn’t suffer on the go, a padded carrying bag is included. It sounds trivial, but it isn’t when you regularly keep the tripod in your backpack or car trunk.
