Really Right Stuff BSL2-LS: Modular L-bracket for Leica SL2 / SL2-S
Really Right Stuff BSL2-LS, modular L-bracket for Leica SL2 / SL2-S
Sometimes everything just fits: your Leica SL2 or SL2-S, a solid tripod, and an L-bracket that feels as if it was planned together with the camera from the start. That’s exactly where the Really Right Stuff BSL2-LS comes in, a modular L-bracket that not only looks good but really proves its worth in everyday use.
Here you get a perfectly fitted solution for your Leica SL2 and Leica SL2-S, not a universal compromise part. The BSL2-LS hugs the body closely, sits without any play, and ensures that your camera lies securely and with repeatable accuracy in the quick-release clamp, whether you’re working in landscape or portrait orientation.
Specifically developed for the following cameras: Leica SL2 and SL2-S
This L-bracket is deliberately not universal. It is specifically designed for the Leica SL2 and Leica SL2-S so that proportions, cutouts, and contact surfaces fit exactly. This keeps access to all relevant controls fully intact. You can open the battery compartment completely without having to remove the L-bracket, which makes a noticeable difference in real-world use, on the go, in the studio, or in winter with cold fingers.
The base plate is designed to align cleanly with the underside of the SL2 / SL2-S. The shape takes into account the strap lugs, the contour of the battery compartment, and the camera’s balance so that it doesn’t tip forward or backward on the tripod. In short: it feels as if the bracket were part of the camera design.
Arca-style compatible, precise clamping profile for professional quick-release systems
The BSL2-LS is ARCA compatible and uses a precisely machined 38 mm dovetail profile. This makes it fit a wide range of clamps and quick-release systems that have long been standard in the professional sector. According to the manufacturer, the clamping profile is Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) with 38 mm quick-release clamps and works, among others, with:
- Wimberley clamps
- Really Right Stuff screw clamps
- Really Right Stuff lever clamps
- Jobu Design clamps
- Kirk clamps
If you generally work with Arca-style compatible systems or want to convert your setup to them, you can find suitable quick-release clamps and accessories, among other places, here: Arca-style compatible components.
Thanks to Arca-style compatibility, you can switch your Leica SL2 or SL2-S in no time between tripod heads, slider, gimbal, or macro rail without having to realign every time. Landscape, portrait, back again – it’s almost a single motion, without sacrificing stability.
With QD strap anchor mount, two QD attachment points for flexible carrying options
The BSL2-LS features two QD strap mounts that are QD compatible. These QD attachment points allow you to use modern strap systems with quick-detach anchors, as commonly found in the outdoor or tactical world. This way you can quickly detach your camera from the strap or clip it in at different points, depending on how you want to carry it.
Important for practical use: to use these QD strap mounts, you need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors. You can find appropriate straps and QD anchors, for example, here: QD straps and QD anchors.
Additionally, there is a strap eyelet on the battery-compartment side of the base plate that can serve as a lower mounting point for a hand strap. This allows you to configure your carrying setup quite freely – shoulder strap, hand strap, both combined – depending on the shoot and your personal preference.
Made in the USA, precise CNC manufacturing from 6061-T6 aluminum
The Really Right Stuff BSL2-LS is made in the USA and CNC precision-milled from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum. This material is widely used in aerospace engineering because it offers a very good weight-to-strength ratio. The L-bracket weighs only about 143 g and still remains extremely torsion-resistant.
The surface has a Type II black anodized finish. This anodized layer protects the aluminum from corrosion and signs of wear and ensures a discreet, matte look that matches the dark surfaces of the Leica SL2 and SL2-S. No glaring reflections, no distracting bright edges in the viewfinder image or on the subject.
Modular design, removable L-component for flexible use
The BSL2-LS has a modular design. You can remove the L-component when needed and use only the base plate. This is practical if you want to store your camera in a tight-fitting bag, for example, or if you prefer it a bit more compact for certain setups.
In the studio or for architectural shots you use the complete L-bracket to switch quickly between portrait and landscape orientation. For reportage or street you might use only the base plate to keep weight and bulk to a minimum. This flexibility makes the BSL2-LS a tool that adapts to your workflow, not the other way around.
Thought-out details: sensor center marking, hex key, and more
A small but crucial detail: the sensor center marking is laser-engraved and clearly visible on the plate. This marking is essential for panoramic photography, because it helps you align the optical axis and the sensor precisely. Especially when you’re planning multi-row panoramas or complex stitchings, this is a real advantage.
The L-bracket also features an integrated magnetic hex key holder. The matching hex key sits directly in the bracket, held securely by a magnet. So you no longer have to rummage through your bag when you quickly need to tighten something or remove the L-component. It may sound trivial, but in the field it saves you time and nerves.
In addition, a 1/4"-20 UNC photo thread is integrated. This allows you to attach further accessories, such as small arms, adapters, or special accessories, without having to give up the main clamping connection.
Secure hold: Really Right Stuff R-Lock and precise fit
For additional security, there is the Really Right Stuff R-Lock. This safety concept ensures that the L-bracket is guided particularly reliably in compatible clamps. Combined with the precise dovetail profile, this results in a very defined fit that provides stability even with heavier lenses and longer exposure times.
The dimensions of the BSL2-LS are matched to the Leica SL2 / SL2-S. With a width of 15.9 cm, a height of 9.3 cm, and a depth of 6.4 cm, it blends harmoniously with the camera body without adding unnecessary bulk. The geometry is chosen so that the camera can be cleanly balanced on the tripod head, even when you use heavier zooms or prime lenses.
Practice-oriented design for daily use
In everyday use, all this means: you can position your Leica SL2 or SL2-S on the tripod in a stable and reproducible way without having to fiddle around each time. Access to the battery compartment remains completely unobstructed, the QD strap mounts open up modern carrying options, and the laser-engraved sensor center marking supports you in precise setups.
We’d say the BSL2-LS is not a spectacular showpiece, but more like a very well-fitting tool – one that you’ll soon no longer want to take off because it simply works. And that is exactly what an L-bracket is supposed to do.
