Really Right Stuff Canon R5 MKII-B camera plate for Canon EOS R5 / R6 / R6 II / R5 MKII
Really Right Stuff Canon R5 MKII-B camera plate, precise camera base for your everyday use
You’ll quickly notice that this camera plate is not just some random accessory that happens to fit your Canon, but a deliberately engineered, custom-made base for serious photography. The Really Right Stuff Canon R5 MKII-B camera plate was developed specifically for mirrorless Canon full-frame cameras and provides a stable, torsion-resistant connection between camera and tripod head without appearing too bulky. Weighing only 68 g and with a width of about 9.2 cm, your Canon remains pleasantly handy, even when you hold it for longer periods.
Made from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum and black anodized, the plate is robust enough for tough outdoor use, yet finished so cleanly that it visually matches modern Canon bodies perfectly. The surface is unobtrusive, almost self-evident – just like accessories should be that you don’t constantly notice because they simply work.
Made in the USA, precision from Really Right Stuff
This camera plate is manufactured in the USA, and you can tell by the details: cleanly milled edges, precise fit, positive anti-twist protection with pin and stop, as well as the integrated Really Right Stuff R-Lock safety concept. The R-Lock mechanism ensures that the plate sits securely in compatible clamps and does not slip unintentionally, even when things get hectic outside or you set your camera down a bit less carefully.
Thanks to the solid 6061-T6 aluminum construction, the plate remains dimensionally stable even with frequent mounting and unmounting. The black anodized coating protects against scratches and corrosion and blends visually into the design of the Canon EOS R5 and R6 series. We’d say: more tool than decoration, in the best sense.
Developed specifically for this camera, custom-fit and not universal
The R5 MKII-B is not a universal solution, but deliberately not universal and designed specifically for this camera and its sister models. The plate fits snugly against the camera body, creating an anti-twist protection that reliably keeps the camera in position. This really pays off especially for portrait-orientation shots or with heavier lenses, because nothing gives way or slowly twists.
With a height of only about 1.4 cm, your setup remains compact. At the same time, the plate is modular and can optionally be expanded with a matching L-component. This allows you to easily upgrade your system to a full L-bracket later on if you want to switch more frequently between landscape and portrait orientation without having to rebalance every time.
An integrated strap eyelet is also provided, so you can use classic camera straps or safety lanyards if needed. The PMG strap mount is not provided on this model; instead, you have the QD solution available, which we’ll look at in more detail in a moment.
Specifically for these cameras: Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, Canon EOS R6 Mark II, Canon EOS R5 Mark II
This camera plate was developed specifically for the following cameras: Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon EOS R5 Mark II. This means: no improvised gaps, no wobbling, no “it kind of fits”, but a contour tailored to these four Canon models. The precise fit ensures that all relevant controls, compartments and doors remain accessible, so you can practically leave the plate mounted permanently.
Especially if you work with multiple bodies from this series, it’s convenient when the handling feels identical. You simply grab the next body, place it in your compatible clamp, and everything sits exactly as you expect. No readjusting, no fiddling.
Arca-style compatible, seamlessly integrable into your tripod system
The Really Right Stuff Canon R5 MKII-B camera plate is fully Arca-style compatible and was designed for use in 38 mm quick-release clamps that follow the ARCA standard. According to the manufacturer, the clamping profile fits Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, as well as Kirk clamps. If you already use such a system or are planning to build one, you can use this plate directly as a solid base.
You can find more information and matching ARCA-compatible solutions in the corresponding category for ARCA-compatible accessories. This way you can expand your setup step by step without later being annoyed by incompatible components.
With QD strap anchor mount, fast and secure carrying option
The camera plate features an integrated QD strap mount, more precisely a single QD strap anchor mount. This allows you to use modern strap systems that rely on quick-detach anchors and attach or detach your camera securely with a single movement. The plate is designed to be QD compatible, giving you very flexible handling, especially when you’re on the go or traveling.
To use this QD strap mount, you need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors. You can find such straps in the matching accessory category with QD strap anchors. Once you have switched to this system, you will generally no longer want to go back to constantly threading classic strap eyelets.
Well-thought-out details: anti-twist protection, strap eyelet and R-Lock safety
The plate fits positively with the camera, supported by an integrated pin and a clearly defined stop. This combination provides effective anti-twist protection, so the camera remains stable even with longer focal lengths or frequent repositioning on the tripod. This is a noticeable advantage especially when you need precise framing, for example in architectural or product photography.
The Really Right Stuff R-Lock safety mechanism complements this stability by making accidental release in compatible clamps more difficult. This keeps your camera reliably in the system even when things get a bit rough, such as during reportage work or on uneven terrain. The existing strap eyelet additionally gives you the option of attaching classic straps or safety tethers if you prefer a redundant safety system.
Laser-engraved sensor center mark, ideal for precise alignment and panoramas
Another small but very helpful detail in practice is the laser-engraved sensor center mark on the plate. This marking helps you position your camera’s optical axis precisely, which is almost indispensable especially for panoramic photography. If you want to create clean, seamlessly stitchable panoramas, this marking makes it much easier to align your camera precisely on the tripod head.
The sensor center mark is also a practical reference point for repro work, architecture, or when working with nodal point adapters. You no longer have to guess where the center of the sensor is roughly located, but can rely on a clearly defined marking.
Modular expandability, prepared for future requirements
Although the plate is not universal, it is modular in design. This means you can optionally expand it with a matching L-component to obtain a full L-bracket. This modularity is ideal if you initially only need a flat base plate but want to keep the option open to switch to an L-bracket later without having to invest in a completely new setup.
This way your system grows with your requirements. You might start with classic landscape photography in landscape orientation and later discover portrait photography or vertical social media formats – with the modular expandability you’re prepared for this without having to completely rethink your setup.
