Really Right Stuff LCF-22 for Nikon Z 400 mm f/2.8 & Nikon Z 600 f/4 & Nikon Z 800MM F/6.3 V
LCF-22 replacement foot for Nikon Z 400 mm f/2.8, 600 mm f/4 and 800 mm f/6.3, precise control for heavy telephoto lenses
With the Really Right Stuff LCF-22 you get significantly more stability out of your large Nikon Z telephoto lenses than the standard lens foot could ever provide. The replacement foot is deliberately built lower than the original foot and at the same time lighter, which noticeably improves the center of gravity of camera and lens. You notice this immediately when working with the Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S NIKKOR (2022), the Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S NIKKOR (2022) or the Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S NIKKOR (2022). Suddenly the setup feels less front-heavy, calmer, more controllable, especially on a gimbal or a robust tripod head.
The integrated dovetail of the LCF-22 provides a direct, play-free connection to the quick-release clamp without an additional plate in between. This minimizes potential sources of error and increases the rigidity of the entire combination. In practice this means: fewer vibrations, cleaner bursts, reliable sharpness even at critical shutter speeds. This really pays off in wildlife, sports or distant subjects where every small movement becomes visible.
Specially developed for this lens, perfect fit for Nikon Z 400, 600 and 800 mm
The LCF-22 is not just any universal foot, but specifically designed for this trio of lenses: Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S and Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S. The contour of the foot follows the actual shape of the Nikon Z lens collar so that the contact surface is optimally used. This creates a very rigid connection that really pays off at long focal lengths. Nothing wobbles, nothing twists unintentionally.
Because the fit is so precise, the balance over the tripod head also remains easier to control. You can align your setup precisely without having to constantly readjust. For photographers who work a lot with long focal lengths, this is not just a comfort gain, but almost a small everyday relief.
Arca-style compatible, clamp directly into 38 mm quick-release clamps
The LCF-22 is fully Arca-style compatible and fits Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) 38 mm quick-release clamps. You can clamp the foot directly into a suitable ARCA compatible quick-release coupling without an additional plate or adapter. This saves height, weight and potential points of failure.
Especially when working with different tripods, monopods or video heads, this ARCA compatible solution is extremely practical. Once placed in the clamp, the lens sits securely and centered. The integrated Really Right Stuff R-Lock detent additionally helps with quick centering and acts as a safety stop, so you get a clear, repeatable position when clamping.
With QD strap socket, carry safely, mount flexibly
The LCF-22 has a QD strap socket, more precisely a single QD compatible socket that is neatly integrated into the foot. This allows you to attach the lens and camera to a suitable carrying system without having to improvise solutions on the tripod collar or on the camera. The strap eyelet is also present, so you remain flexible when attaching your strap.
To use this QD strap socket you need a strap with QD strap anchors. You can find more details here. This makes it much more comfortable to transport a heavy telephoto lens, for example on longer walks to a hide or to the edge of the playing field.
Made in the USA, robust quality from 6061-T6 aluminum
The Really Right Stuff LCF-22 is made in the USA and consists of high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum. This material is almost a classic in the photo industry because it offers a very good ratio of stability, weight and machinability. With a weight of only 168 g, the foot remains pleasantly light without sacrificing rigidity.
The surface is black anodized, which not only provides a discreet look but also makes the foot resistant to scratches and weather influences. Combined with the precise milling quality, this results in a component that integrates seamlessly with high-end Nikon Z telephoto lenses and performs on a professional level both visually and functionally.
Well thought-out safety features, R-Lock and safety stop screws
For additional safety, two safety stop screws are attached to the underside of the LCF-22. These safety stop screws prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release coupling if the clamp is opened too far or not fully closed. Especially with expensive telephoto lenses, this small detail is a very reassuring factor.
The integrated Really Right Stuff R-Lock function provides a defined detent that enables quick centering and a clear safety stop. When inserting into compatible clamps, the foot noticeably clicks into place so that you get a repeatable position. This helps in particular if you frequently switch between portrait and landscape orientation or use different setups and still want to maintain a consistent alignment.
Dimensions, threads and compatibility, everything in its place
With a length of 12.3 cm, a width of 4.4 cm and a height of 3.4 cm, the LCF-22 is dimensioned to provide a generous contact surface without being unnecessarily bulky. The proportions are designed to safely support long Nikon Z telephoto lenses while still leaving enough room to grip when lifting the lens by the foot.
On the underside you will find a 3/8" UNC photo thread and a 1/4" UNC photo thread. This allows you to screw the foot directly onto a tripod head or a quick-release plate if required, should you ever want to work without an Arca-style compatible clamp. This flexibility is surprisingly helpful in everyday use, for example when working with existing studio systems or older tripods.
Mounting on the lens, done in a few steps
Mounting the LCF-22 is deliberately kept simple. To remove the Nikon foot, use the supplied 3.5 mm hex key to loosen the four screws that secure the original foot. The screws are completely unscrewed, the standard foot is removed, and the lens is ready for the new replacement foot.
To mount the LCF-22, simply use the four original screws to attach the Really Right Stuff foot to the lens. The holes of the LCF-22 are precisely matched to the Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S and Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, so the screw connection sits perfectly. After tightening the screws, you get a stable, play-free connection that holds reliably in daily use.
Practical benefits for wildlife, sports and long-distance shooting
Especially at long focal lengths such as 400 mm, 600 mm or 800 mm, every small movement is noticeable. The LCF-22 helps you minimize these movements by lowering the center of gravity and reducing front-heaviness. On a monopod, this makes the lens easier to handle; on a heavy tripod head, the framing remains steadier, even when wind or small touches come into play.
In wildlife photography, at sporting events or with distant subjects in landscape work, this quickly becomes apparent. Bursts look more consistent, pans become more controlled, and the hit rate of truly sharp images increases. It is not a spectacular, loud upgrade, but rather a quiet yet very effective one that you won’t want to be without after a few uses.
