Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 clamp

Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 clamp, small clip, big difference

Sometimes an entire photo depends on a tiny detail. A leaf that constantly slips out of focus, a reflector that just won’t stay where you need it – and that’s exactly where the Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 clamp comes into play. This holding clamp is intended as a replacement clip for the Wimberley Plamp II PP-200, but it makes a much bigger impression than its compact dimensions would suggest.

Precise holding clamp for macro, nature and product photography

The PP-220 is a robust holding clamp specifically designed to securely fix small objects, backgrounds or accessories without constant readjustment. With a length of about 11.4 cm, a width of around 7.6 cm and a height of 3.6 cm, it is compact enough to barely stand out in your camera bag, yet sturdy enough to really impress in use.

The weight of approximately 95 g may look unspectacular on paper, but in practice it provides a pleasant balance between stability and handling. You can attach the clamp to your Plamp arm and then focus entirely on your subject instead of on slipping leaves or fluttering diffusers.

Made in USA, solid workmanship without frills

This replacement clip is manufactured in the USA and feels exactly like you would expect from a well-thought-out tool: purpose-built, durable, without unnecessary frills. The material is designed for long-term use, even if you are frequently outdoors, lying in the morning dew or trying to keep a delicate subject steady in the wind.

We’d say: it’s not a showpiece for the display cabinet, but a working tool for people who really take photos and don’t just talk about it.

Scope of delivery – what you get

In the box you will find exactly what you need, no more, no less:

  • 1 × Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 replacement clip

The clamp is designed as a replacement or spare part for the Plamp II arm PP-200 and integrates seamlessly into the existing system.

Mounting on the Plamp II arm – how to do it without frustration

The mounting may sound a bit rough at first, but that’s exactly how it’s intended. Step by step:

  1. First remove the old clamp end from the last segment of the Plamp II arm (PP-200). To do this, pull firmly on it and bend the old clamp clearly to the side. This may feel a bit crude at first, but don’t worry: the arm itself will not be damaged; it is designed for this.
  2. To attach the new PP-220 clamp, press it firmly onto the segment where the old clamp was previously attached. It should snap into place with a clearly audible “pop”. It really does take a noticeable amount of pressure until this happens; that’s normal and later ensures a secure fit. If it still sticks despite your effort, you can warm the last link of the arm in hot water for about 30 to 60 seconds. This makes the material a bit more flexible and the clamp easier to press on.

In short: pull hard, push hard, don’t be too gentle – then the replacement clip will sit securely and permanently.

Practical benefits in everyday photography

In macro photography, nature shots or a small improvised home studio, the Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 clamp is a quiet helper. You can use it, for example, to:

  • position leaves, branches or blossoms precisely
  • secure small reflectors or diffusers
  • hold light backgrounds or color gels
  • stabilize product details that would otherwise constantly slip out of place

Especially when you’re working alone and don’t have a third hand, the clamp takes on this role – unobtrusively but reliably.

Who the Wimberley Plamp® II PP-220 clamp is especially worthwhile for

If you frequently work in close-up and macro ranges, photographing plants, insects, small products or detail shots, you’ll notice the difference quickly. Instead of constantly holding something in place with one hand and triggering with the other, you can calmly arrange your subjects and focus on composition, light and sharpness.

And if you’ve been using your Plamp II arm for a long time and the original clamp is slowly wearing out, the PP-220 will restore full functionality without you having to replace the entire system.
