Wimberley Ground Plamp® II PP-400
Wimberley Ground Plamp® II PP-400, your third arm in the field
In the middle of the grass, tripod half stuck in the mud, a hint of wind and exactly in that moment the blossom sways out of focus. We’ve all been there. This is exactly where the Wimberley Ground Plamp® II PP-400 comes into play, an amazingly strong flexible arm that works as a plant clamp, accessory holder and support arm, and simply has your back when you’re out in the field.
Sturdy ground spike for a secure hold in the soil
The base is a robust ground spike that you push directly into the ground, whether forest floor, meadow or loose soil at the edge of a field. Once pressed in properly, it sits surprisingly firmly and forms the stable foundation for the entire plant holder. This lets you work relaxed even in light wind or on uneven terrain, without constantly having to readjust by hand.
Precise plant clamp for delicate subjects
At the tip of the arm sits the actual plant clamp, which can be closed very precisely via a screw. You can therefore fine-tune the clamping force instead of simply “flattening” leaves or delicate stems. The soft foam pads on the gripping surfaces noticeably protect sensitive plant parts and prevent pressure marks or damage.
Inside the clamp, fine grooves ensure that nothing slips, whether it’s a thin blade of grass, a small reflector or a diffuser. In addition, there is a deeper notch that lets you securely grip slightly larger cylindrical objects, such as a small flashlight or a slim LED wand. This makes the Ground Plamp® II not only a plant holder, but a versatile accessory holder for your entire macro setup.
Flexible arm with strong LocLine elements
The actual flexible arm consists of large LocLine elements that provide remarkable stability. You simply bend the arm into the desired position and it stays there without annoying sagging. The construction is designed so that the support arm operates with low vibration and quickly settles again after being moved. Especially in close-up shots where every millimeter counts, this quick damping is worth its weight in gold.
With a maximum length of about 68.5 cm you have enough reach to place blossoms, leaves or small accessories exactly where you want them in the frame. At the same time, the arm remains compact enough to stow easily in your backpack or camera bag.
Perfect for macro photography in wind and with restless subjects
Especially in macro photography, wind is often the hidden final boss. With the Ground Plamp® II you stabilize your subject, maintain a specific tilt or position and prevent blossoms from constantly dancing out of the plane of focus. You can simply keep distracting blades of grass or twigs out of the frame by gently placing them in the plant clamp and pulling them aside.
At the same time, the flexible arm is excellent for positioning small reflectors or diffusers so that your subject receives soft, controlled light. Instead of holding accessories with one hand and balancing the camera with the other, the Ground Plamp® II takes over this task, allowing you to concentrate fully on composition and focus.
Versatile accessory holder for reflectors, diffusers and more
Besides plants and branches, the Wimberley Ground Plamp® II PP-400 also holds light accessories reliably. Reflectors, diffusers, small cards, background boards or lightweight LED lamps can be fixed in the clamp as long as the weight stays within limits. The maximum load capacity is around 227 g, depending on how you position the arm. The more you extend it, the more important a well-balanced load distribution becomes.
This turns the Ground Plamp® II into a small mobile assistant that helps you shape light, calm backgrounds and banish distracting elements from the frame, without needing a second person.
Lightweight, robust and made for outdoor use
With a weight of about 290 g, the flexible arm remains pleasantly light yet very robust. The clip material, Zytel ST, is extremely resistant to mechanical stress and made for rough outdoor use. You can therefore toss the piece into your backpack without worry, lay it down in the grass or use it in the field without constantly fearing breakage or deformation.
The combination of sturdy ground spike, strong flexible arm and precise plant clamp makes the Ground Plamp® II a reliable tool for anyone seriously engaged in macro and nature photography, or who simply likes to work in detail without having to struggle with wobbly improvisations.
Fine details for better grip and more control
The inside of the clamp is thoughtfully designed: the grooves prevent plants, reflectors or small tools from slipping out sideways. The padding provides grip while also protecting delicate surfaces. Thanks to the deeper notch you can also securely fix somewhat thicker, round objects, which significantly expands the range of applications.
Because the clamp is tightened very precisely via a screw, you can securely hold both ultra-thin blades of grass and somewhat sturdier stems without crushing them. It may sound like a minor detail, but in practice it often makes the difference between “good enough” and “perfectly in place”.
Expandable for even more reach
If you need more length, the Ground Plamp® can be extended as required. Using suitable extension elements, you can expand the flexible arm and thus adapt the reach to your subjects. This is practical if, for example, you want to reach more distant leaves, backgrounds or light modifiers without having to step into sensitive vegetation yourself.

If you enjoy shooting macros, love small details or work outdoors with reflectors and diffusers, you’ll quickly find you don’t want to be without the Ground Plamp® II. It doesn’t replace a large lighting setup, of course, but it takes a lot of small, annoying tasks off your hands. And that’s exactly what makes it so valuable in everyday use.
Whether you’re experimenting in your home garden, photographing dragonflies in the moor at dawn, or staging mushrooms at the edge of the forest, this flexible support arm ensures that your subject stays where you want it, and your accessories stay where they’re most effective.
