Leofoto LH-30LR ball head with NP-50 camera plate

Leofoto LH-30LR ball head with NP-50 camera plate, compact pro for on the go

Sometimes you don’t need a huge tripod monster, but simply a ball head that holds reliably, does its job quietly and hardly stands out in your backpack. That’s exactly where the Leofoto LH-30LR ball head with NP-50 camera plate plays to its strengths: small, compact and lightweight, yet surprisingly resilient with a load capacity of up to 15 kg. Ideal when you’re out and about with mirrorless cameras and value a clean, stable base.

With a height of 7.4 cm, a base diameter of 4.7 cm and a weight of only about 0.35 kg, the head fits easily into any camera bag. The integrated 30 mm ball ensures very direct, precise control of your camera – no wobble, no fuss.

With lever clamp for fast everyday work

The built-in lever clamp is something like the little speed booster on this ball head. You place the NP-50 camera plate in, close the lever and the camera is secure. No lengthy turning of a screw, no fiddling with cold fingers. Especially in travel photography, reportage photography or when you’re outdoors in winter, you’ll notice how pleasant that is.

The lever clamp also contains an integrated spirit level. This lets you level your setup quickly, which is worth its weight in gold, especially in landscape photography, architectural photography or in the studio. According to the manufacturer, the clamp accepts an Arca-style compatible 38 mm dovetail, so you can work with many common quick-release plates and L-brackets.

Arca-style compatible, flexible with quick-release clamp

The quick-release clamp is Arca-style compatible, which simply gives you a lot of freedom in everyday use. You can usually continue to use existing plates and rails from your system and don’t have to buy a completely new solution for every camera. The included NP-50 camera plate integrates seamlessly and provides a solid support surface for mirrorless and lighter DSLR combinations.

Thanks to the precisely machined clamp, the plate sits securely in the mount, while the ergonomically shaped controls ensure that you can still easily reach all the knobs even in the dark or while looking through the viewfinder. In the hand, the whole thing just feels coherent, not overloaded, more pleasantly tidy.

Stable construction made of aluminum, stainless steel and brass

When it comes to materials, the LH-30LR makes no compromises. The ball head is made of high-strength aircraft aluminum, partially anodized and CNC-milled, complemented by components made of stainless steel and brass. This combination ensures a robust, durable construction that won’t give up even with frequent setup and teardown.

The low-profile design keeps the center of gravity of your setup pleasantly low, which further increases stability. This really pays off especially with longer focal lengths or in macro photography, where every tiny movement becomes visible. The 30 mm ball can be moved with fine control, but also adjusted very quickly when the situation demands it.

Precise panoramas and 90° tilt

For 360° panoramic panning, the LH-30LR has a separate panning base. This can be locked independently of the ball, so you first align the camera precisely and then only rotate it around the vertical axis. This is not only practical for classic panoramas, but also for video pans or series shots with a consistent framing.

An opening in the ball head shell allows the tilt of the ball by up to 90°. This lets you quickly switch from landscape to portrait orientation without having to completely realign the tripod. Especially in architectural photography or portraits, this saves you time and nerves, because you simply maintain your composition and only rotate the orientation.

Ergonomic controls for different genres

The controls are deliberately designed to be ergonomic. You find the knobs and levers almost intuitively, without having to look closely. This makes the LH-30LR versatile: from spontaneous reportage photography to calm landscape shots all the way to carefully planned studio photography.

Thanks to the 3/8" UNC internal thread at the base, the ball head fits most common tripod legs in the photo sector. Once mounted, the head feels like a natural part of the system, not like a foreign object stuck on top. That may sound a bit lofty, but in practice that’s exactly how it feels.

Small, compact and lightweight, ideal for travel photography

Especially when you travel a lot, you don’t want to have to think before every flight or train journey about whether the ball head can still come along. With its weight of around 308 g or 0.35 kg and its compact design, the LH-30LR is made for travel photography. It disappears into your backpack without attracting much attention, but is ready for use immediately when you need it.

Whether it’s a city trip, a mountain tour or a quick detour to the lake for sunset: the ball head gives you a stable base without having to lug around oversized gear. We’d say it hits the sweet spot between mobility and stability pretty much exactly.
