The Leofoto LO-284C from the Mr.O series is a carbon tripod where you can tell that real thought went into the design. You get a classic three-legged tripod, a tripod with a center column, and at the same time a tripod with leveling, because the leveling insert is already integrated. For many setups, that’s exactly the small difference that saves time in everyday use.
Here we use 10-layer wrapped carbon, combined with aluminum and stainless steel in the places where it makes sense. The result feels light but remains stable, even when the camera gets a bit heavier.
Heights, angles, working close to the ground
With the center column fully extended, you reach a maximum working height of 1.54 m. Without the center column, the maximum height is 1.25 m. And if you really want to go low, you can get down to a minimum working height of 9.5 cm without the center column, so very close to the ground. For macro, low-angle perspectives, or when you deliberately want to work low in landscape photography, this is simply practical, almost liberating.
The leg angles can be set in three stages: 23°, 55°, and 85°. This lets you quickly adapt the tripod to uneven terrain, stairs, rocks, or tight indoor spaces without a lot of trial and error. Each leg has 4 sections, with tube diameters of 28, 25, 22, and 19 mm.
Leveling center column and precise alignment
The center column is present and it is levelable. There is also one bubble level so you can keep an eye on the alignment without having to guess first. Especially for architecture, video, or whenever the horizon really has to be spot on, this is a pleasantly straightforward solution.
One detail you only really appreciate after using it a few times: both the center column and the platform have set screws that prevent the mounted tripod head from twisting. That may sound unspectacular, but it prevents exactly those small, annoying micro-movements that would otherwise occur sooner or later.
Load capacity, weight, and transport size
The LO-284C remains pleasantly travel-friendly at 1.32 kg. The transport length is 50 cm, so it fits in many backpacks or can be easily attached on the outside. At the same time, a maximum load capacity of 12.0 kg is specified, which gives you plenty of reserve for mirrorless setups, reportage photography, and also for longer focal lengths in landscape work.
We particularly recommend this tripod for mirrorless cameras, travel photography, reportage photography, landscape photography, low-angle work, and macro photography. It’s the kind of tripod you take along because it doesn’t get in the way, and then you’re glad to have it with you.
Ports, threads, and accessories on the tripod shoulder
On top you’ll find the standard photo threads as mounting studs, 3/8" UNC and 1/4" UNC. Additional 1/4" and 3/8" threads are integrated into the tripod shoulder, intended for further accessories such as suitable arms and mounts (AM-1, AM-2, AM-3, AM-4). This allows you to neatly attach a monitor, microphone, light, or a small accessory arm to the tripod without improvised clamps.
Twist lock, maintenance, and the internals of the legs
The leg locks use grippy twist locks and require only a quarter turn to open or close. It’s quick but not hectic. And yes, it does make a difference in the field whether you’re cranking forever or just twist and you’re done.
Tripod feet, spikes, and secure footing
The tripod feet are designed with 3/8" threads and ensure a secure stand no matter what surface you’re working on. For soft ground such as sand or mud, spikes are included that really bite into the surface. And for indoor use or delicate floors, there are mushroom-style rubber feet with an aluminum core, which, thanks to their shape, provide reliable support even at different leg angles.
The foot thread is a 3/8" UNC internal thread, suitable for changing the feet depending on the application.
Load hook, platform, and small details you’ll appreciate
The platform has a removable load hook that you can also mount on the center column. For more stability in wind or when the ground is vibrating, you simply hang some weight on it—backpack, bag, whatever you have on hand. And because the platform can also be secured against twisting, the overall setup remains stable.
Padded tripod bag included
A professional padded tripod bag is included with the tripod. It comes with double YKK zippers, metal hooks, 900D polyester, and a waterproof PU coating. The 1.5" wide nylon shoulder strap is comfortable to carry, even when you have the tripod over your shoulder for a longer time. Not luxurious in an over-the-top way, more robust and sensible. Just right.
