ProMediaGear QDP1 - QD plug connector for camera straps & carabiner hooks
ProMediaGear QDP1 QD Plug Connector, your smart strap anchor for camera straps and carabiners
Sometimes everything literally hangs on a single point: the strap anchor. That’s exactly where the ProMediaGear QDP1 QD Plug Connector comes in. It transforms your existing camera strap with up to 2.54 cm strap width into a modern QD-compatible system without forcing you to retire your favorite strap.
You simply click the QD plug into a suitable QD socket, attach your strap or carabiner hook to it, and you’re ready to go. No fiddling, no improvising with half-baked solutions, but a clearly defined, secure system that quickly pays off in everyday use.
Made in the USA, rugged quality for tough photo assignments
The QDP1 is made in the USA, and you can feel it. The housing is made from precisely milled aircraft-grade aluminum, the high-stress parts from stainless steel. This combination ensures stability, even when you hang heavy DSLR or mirrorless setups with telephoto lenses from it.
With a maximum load capacity of about 6.8 kg, the QD Plug Connector is significantly more resilient than its compact size would suggest. It’s not designed as decoration, but as a real working tool for photographers who regularly use their gear outdoors, on the go, at events, or in the studio.
QD Plug Connector for camera straps, convert instead of buying new
If you love your existing camera strap but want a QD system, the ProMediaGear QDP1 adapter is just what you need. You can connect almost any camera strap with 1‑inch webbing (2.54 cm) to the QD plug. This upgrades your setup to a modern quick-release system without the need for a complete reinvestment.
The QDP1 acts as a compact strap anchor that creates the connection between strap and camera or lens plate with QD socket. Once mounted, you can attach or remove your strap in seconds without having to unscrew anything on the camera itself each time.
Compatible with ProMediaGear QD strap sockets and many other brands
The QD Quick Release Strap Plug is designed to work with all common QD strap mounts from ProMediaGear and numerous other manufacturers. If you already use QD sockets on your camera, lens, tripod collar, or accessories, you can simply clip the QDP1 plug into them.
The result: you switch lightning fast between different cameras, lenses, or carrying systems without having to re-thread anything each time. Especially if you work with multiple bodies or switch between shoulder strap, hand strap, and carabiner solutions, this small adapter quickly becomes indispensable.
Two mounting options: webbing or carabiner hook
A practical detail that’s easy to underestimate: the QDP1 offers you two different strap options. You can either connect it directly to 1‑inch webbing or use a carabiner hook.
What this means for you: you decide whether to thread your camera strap in the classic way or prefer to work with a robust carabiner, for example when you want to attach your camera to a climbing harness, backpack, or a modular carrying system. This flexibility makes the QD Plug Connector interesting for outdoor photographers, travelers, wedding photographers, and anyone who truly wants to adapt their gear to their own workflow.
Quick release with QD push-button, click on and off in seconds
The core of the system is the QD push-button quick-release. A short press, a click, done. You attach or remove your strap in just a few seconds, with no screws and no fumbling with tiny eyelets.
Especially when you switch between hands-free carrying, tripod use, and transport in a backpack, this type of quick coupling really pays off. Detach the camera from the strap, onto the tripod, later back onto the strap again – it’s almost a casual move, without you constantly having to worry that something might come loose unintentionally.
Peak Design tether included, extra safety out of the box
With every ProMediaGear QDP1 QD Plug Connector you receive a Peak Design QR safety strap (tether). This additional safety strap serves as a second level of security if you want to double-secure your camera, for example during crowd reportages or when working at greater heights.
You can use the tether as a backup connection between camera and strap or integrate it into your existing Peak Design system. This way you combine the advantages of the QD system with the flexibility of modern carrying systems – a small extra with big benefits.
Scope of delivery, everything you need to get started
So you can get started right away, the QDP1 doesn’t come alone, but as a well-thought-out set:
- QD adapter (ProMediaGear QDP1 QD Plug Connector)
- Carabiner mount for alternative mounting options
- Strap mount for 1‑inch webbing (2.54 cm)
- Peak Design QR safety strap (tether) for additional security
- Hex key for adjustment and secure installation
You don’t need to buy anything else to use the adapter effectively. Unpack, mount, done – switching to the QD system only takes a few minutes.
Care instructions, small maintenance, big impact
Like all mechanical components, this QD plug also benefits from occasional care. To ensure that the locking pins continue to operate reliably, we recommend lightly lubricating the adapter from time to time.
For example, we use Ballistol or WD‑40 in a very sparing dosage. A short spray, wipe off excess oil, done. This keeps the push button smooth and ensures the system locks cleanly, even if you frequently use the adapter outdoors or in changing weather conditions.
Important note on Kirk products, pay attention to the recesses
If you want to use the QDP1 together with Kirk products, you should pay close attention to the design of the QD socket. It must have three small recesses so that the QD plug can lock correctly and the strap can reliably carry the accessory.
If these recesses are missing, the lock cannot engage optimally. In this case, we strongly advise against using the QD plug, as the safety of your equipment would not be guaranteed. A quick look at the socket before use will spare you unpleasant surprises.
Compatibility note, not suitable for all lens plates
One important point in conclusion: the ProMediaGear QDP1 QD Plug Connector is not compatible with the lens plates and lens feet from Augenblicke-eingefangen. If you use corresponding plates or feet from this manufacturer, the QD plug cannot be used safely on them.
For all other QD-capable plates and accessories that have the appropriate sockets, however, the QDP1 is an extremely practical addition to convert your carrying system to a fast, secure, and flexible QD system.
