The Really Right Stuff B2-Pro II quick-release clamp with R-Mount very clearly belongs in the second category. It is designed for clean, repeatable clamping and is aimed at anyone who fixes their camera on a ball head not just occasionally, but regularly and with high expectations.

The B2-Pro II relies on a classic screw clamp with knurled knob, which allows significantly higher clamping force than many lever clamps. You can finely adjust the clamping force without suddenly having a lever in the way or the camera giving way unintentionally. This difference is especially noticeable with heavy telephoto lenses or when you are out in the field.

Arca-style compatible, versatile 38 mm dovetail coupling for your system

The quick-release clamp is designed for a 38 mm dovetail coupling and, according to the manufacturer, is Arca-style compatible. In practice, this means that it securely accepts a whole range of common dovetail profiles: Flexshooter 38 mm dovetail, Leofoto dovetail, Really Right Stuff dovetail, Wimberley dovetail, Kirk dovetail and other Arca-style compatible 38 mm dovetail profiles. This allows you to continue using existing L-brackets, lens plates or rails in most cases without having to convert your entire system.

One important point that is often overlooked: NOVOFLEX profiles do not fit into this clamp. So if you have consistently relied on NOVOFLEX up to now, you will need to change the plates so that everything works together properly. For all other ARCA-compatible plates, the B2-Pro II is a very flexible base that integrates into many existing setups.

Made in the USA, robust materials for tough everyday photography

The Really Right Stuff B2-Pro II quick-release clamp is made in the USA and uses a combination of 6061-T6 aluminum and steel. The aluminum ensures low weight with high rigidity, while the steel elements at critical points provide stability and durability. The surface is black anodized, which not only looks good but also protects against scratches and corrosion.

With a weight of around 125 g, the clamp remains pleasantly light without feeling fragile. The width is about 11.2 cm, the height approximately 2.5 cm. The jaw length of around 6.0 cm offers sufficient contact area for typical camera plates and L-rails so that the load is well distributed and nothing feels tippy. It is more of a “mount it once and then you forget about it because it just works” kind of product.

Flexible mounting: 3/8 inch, 1/4 inch, M6 and R-Mount

The B2-Pro II quick-release clamp is designed so that it can be adapted to different ball heads and tripod platforms. You can mount it in three ways:

• Screwing it on via the central 3/8" UNC threaded hole on heads with a 3/8" mounting stud
• Bolting through from above with a 1/4" UNC countersunk screw or M6 countersunk screw in combination with an optional CL adapter when an adapted mounting is required
• Direct mounting with a 1/4" UNC or M6 countersunk screw on the R-Mount of a suitable ball head for a particularly form-fitting fit

On the underside you have 1 x 3/8" UNC photo thread and 2 x 1/4" UNC photo threads available. This combination makes the clamp compatible with practically all common tripod heads and platforms with 3/8"-16 threaded studs, with RRS ball heads with R-Mount, as well as with tripod heads that have 1/4"-20 threaded holes or metric M6 threads.

A small but important note: For older Really Right Stuff ball heads without R-Mount, a separate CL adapter is required to mount the clamp correctly. Without this adapter, the clamp will not sit as it should, and the anti-twist protection cannot function optimally.

R-Mount anti-twist protection for reliable hold

The integrated R-Mount anti-twist protection ensures that the clamp does not rotate unnoticed on the ball head. Especially if you work in portrait orientation more often or use heavy combinations of camera and telephoto lens, this stop is a real safety factor. Instead of constantly checking whether everything is still aligned, you can concentrate on image composition.

In combination with the screw clamp, this creates a very stable system that reliably maintains its position even with repeated mounting and dismounting of the camera. It is a bit like a well-adjusted tripod: you only realize how pleasant it is once you have worked with it and then would have to go back to wobbly solutions.

Compatibility with ball heads and systems

The Really Right Stuff B2-Pro II quick-release clamp with R-Mount is ideal if you want to replace an existing lever clamp on a 38 mm dovetail ball head. It fits on ball heads from Really Right Stuff itself and can be combined, among others, with models such as Manfrotto 468, 488RCO, 469, 468RC2 and 469RC, provided the corresponding threaded connections are present.

Thanks to support for common 38 mm dovetail profiles, you can continue to use many existing plates and rails. This reduces the effort involved in switching and makes the clamp a sensible upgrade if you want to gradually bring your system to a uniform standard without replacing everything at once.

Precise alignment with bubble level and center mark

For precise alignment, an integrated bubble level is built in to help you quickly level camera and tripod. Especially in architecture, landscape or product photography, this is a detail that can save you work later in post-processing.

In addition, the clamp features a laser engraving with scale and center mark. This allows you to position your camera exactly in the middle and repeat settings reproducibly. Whether you are planning a series of shots with slightly offset framing or simply want to ensure that everything sits symmetrically, these markings are surprisingly helpful in everyday use.

Operation and feel in use
