Really Right Stuff LCF-53 replacement foot for Canon L IS II/ L IS III & RF L IS lenses
Really Right Stuff LCF-53 replacement foot for Canon L IS II, L IS III and RF L IS telephoto lenses
Sometimes it’s just a small part that makes the decisive difference in everyday photography. The Really Right Stuff LCF-53 replacement foot falls exactly into this category: inconspicuous at first glance, but in practice an extremely well thought-out upgrade for your Canon telephoto lenses. It replaces the original Canon tripod foot and comes with an integrated dovetail profile that can be used directly with common quick-release clamps – no extra plate, no fiddling.
The LCF-53 was developed specifically for demanding nature, sports and action photography, where you are working with heavy super-telephoto lenses and need to rely on every detail. Stability, precise fit and practical features clearly take priority here, not flashy marketing promises.
made in the USA, precision machined from 6061-T6 aluminum
The Really Right Stuff LCF-53 replacement foot is manufactured entirely in the USA from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum. This material is practically a classic in professional photography because it offers a very good ratio of weight to stability. The foot is black anodized, which not only looks high-end but also provides additional surface protection and prevents distracting reflections when, for example, you are shooting wildlife and can’t use shiny parts on the lens.
With a weight of only 126 g, your gear remains pleasantly portable, while the solid construction provides a reassuringly solid feel when the lens locks into the tripod head. The width is about 4.3 cm, the height 5.3 cm and the profile length of the underside 14.6 cm. These dimensions are deliberately chosen so that the foot offers a secure contact area without being unnecessarily bulky.
specifically designed for the following lenses, Canon EF and Canon RF super-telephoto
The LCF-53 is not just some universal part, but specifically designed for the following lenses and precisely matched to their tripod collars. For Canon EF lenses it supports:
- Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II
- Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM
- Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM
- Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x
- Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS III
- Canon EF 600mm f/4 L IS III USM
For Canon RF lenses the replacement foot is equally prepared:
- Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM (2021)
- Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM (2021)
- Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8 L IS USM (2023)
This means the LCF-53 covers exactly those typical telephoto and super-telephoto focal lengths that are frequently used on monopods or tripods. You don’t have to guess whether the foot will fit, but can rely on a clean, play-free connection between lens and tripod head.
Arca-style compatible, integrated clamping profile for quick-release clamps
The Really Right Stuff LCF-53 features an integrated Arca-compatible clamping profile that makes the use of an additional quick-release plate unnecessary. This saves height, weight and, above all, time when you need to react quickly in the field. According to the manufacturer, the foot is Arca-style compatible and fits 38 mm quick-release clamps.
The clamping profile is designed so that it locks cleanly into a whole range of common clamps, including:
- ProMediaGear clamps
- Wimberley clamps
- Really Right Stuff screw clamps
- Really Right Stuff lever-release clamps
- Kirk clamps
- FlexShooter screw cross clamp
So if you are already using an Arca-style compatible system, you can integrate the LCF-53 seamlessly. Further information on Arca-style compatibility can be found in our guide under Arca-style compatible quick-release systems. In everyday use the whole thing feels surprisingly unspectacular: you place the lens in the clamp, tighten it, done – but that’s exactly how it should be.
with QD strap socket, flexible carrying options on the go
The LCF-53 offers a QD strap socket, more precisely a QD-compatible socket, which gives you additional flexibility in how you carry your lens. This allows you to attach a suitable strap with QD strap anchors directly to the tripod foot and carry the lens securely over your shoulder or diagonally across your body, without improvised solutions on the tripod collar or camera body.
To use this QD strap socket you need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors. Further information and matching straps can be found under QD straps and accessories. In addition, there is a classic strap eyelet if you prefer to work with conventional carabiners or loops. This way you can adjust your carrying configuration relatively spontaneously, depending on whether you are hiking, working in a stadium or shooting from a car.
well thought-out safety features, safety stop screws and photo thread
On the underside of the Really Right Stuff LCF-53 replacement foot there are 2 safety stop screws. These safety stop screws prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release clamp if the clamp is not fully opened or if you move the lens a bit too far forwards or backwards. Especially with heavy telephoto lenses this is a very reassuring detail that you will quickly not want to do without.
In addition, a 1 x 1/4 UNC photo thread is integrated into the underside. This allows you, if necessary, to screw the foot directly onto a tripod, monopod or special quick-release base if you exceptionally want to work without an Arca-style clamp or are using an older system. This combination of quick-release system and classic thread ensures maximum compatibility in a mixed setup.
practice-oriented design, handling, balance and everyday usability
In daily use the LCF-53 plays to its strengths primarily through improved balance and grip. Thanks to the optimized length of 14.6 cm, the lens is easier to hold when carrying, and when working on a tripod you can very finely balance the position on the head, for example when using different camera bodies or teleconverters.
The black anodized surface is resistant to scratches from normal use and looks pleasantly unobtrusive. Combined with the precise milling from 6061-T6 aluminum, the result is a tripod foot that feels like an integral part of the lens, not like an accessory added on afterwards. We would say: this is one of those parts that you mount once and then simply forget about in the best possible way, because it works reliably.
The fact that the LCF-53 is Arca compatible, QD compatible, comes with a strap eyelet and works with numerous clamps such as ProMediaGear, Wimberley, Really Right Stuff, Kirk or FlexShooter makes it a very versatile solution for Canon EF and Canon RF super-telephoto lenses. If you want to bring your setup to a robust, professional level without changing your entire system, this replacement foot is a very obvious step.
