Kirk KLP-625 universal lens plate (158 mm) with QD mount
Universal lens plate Kirk KLP-625, precise base for long telephoto lenses
You’ll quickly notice that this lens plate is not just some random piece of metal. The Kirk KLP-625 universal lens plate with a length of 158 mm was specially developed for large telephoto lenses and provides you with a stable, well-thought-out platform when you’re working with heavy focal lengths, whether in the stadium, in a hide, or on a coastal cliff.
The plate is universally usable, meaning it’s not tied to a single model, but deliberately designed so that it can be adapted to a whole range of professional telephoto lenses. The profile length of the underside and top side is 15.8 cm each, and the total length is also 15.8 cm with a width of 3.8 cm. At only about 100 g, your setup remains pleasantly manageable without you having to compromise on stability or torsional rigidity.
Precisely fitting for Nikon F, Canon EF, Canon RF and Sigma telephoto lenses
Things get particularly interesting when you look at your lenses specifically. The Kirk KLP-625 is designed for a range of popular tele heavyweights, including Nikon F lenses such as the Nikon 600mm f/4E FL ED VR AF-S NIKKOR, the Nikon 600mm f/4G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR and the Nikon 600mm f/4 AFS II NIKKOR.
Canon photographers are also well served: for Canon EF lenses, the plate fits the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II, Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM, Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM, Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x, Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, Canon EF 600mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon EF 500mm f4 L IS USM as well as the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS.
If you’ve already switched to a mirrorless system, the plate also covers Canon RF lenses such as the Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM (2021) and the Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM (2021). And for Sigma fans, the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM / Sports is included. In short: the KLP-625 is a universal lens plate that integrates seamlessly into many professional setups.
Robust 6061-T6 aluminum construction for tough use
No corners were cut when it came to material choice. The plate is made of 6061-T6 aluminum, a high-quality, field-proven material that offers an excellent ratio of weight to stability. The material is hard, dimensionally stable and at the same time light enough not to weigh down your equipment unnecessarily.
The surface is anodized, in a combination of satin-silver anodized and black anodized, which not only looks discreet and professional, but also increases resistance to scratches and corrosion. This type of finish ensures that the plate still looks good and works reliably even after many uses in rain, dust or on the road.
Arca-style compatible, flexible use in many quick-release clamps
The KLP-625 features a dual dovetail clamping profile with a width of 38 mm which, according to the manufacturer, is Arca-style compatible. In practice this means: you can use the plate in a wide variety of ARCA-compatible quick-release clamps without having to commit to a single system.
The clamping profile fits, among others, FlexShooter lever cross clamps, FlexShooter screw cross clamps, ProMediaGear clamps, Wimberley clamps, Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) 38 mm quick-release clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, Jobu Design clamps, Acratech lever clamps, Acratech screw clamps as well as Kirk clamps. So if you already use an ARCA-based system, this plate integrates neatly and expands your setup instead of blocking it.
Because the lens plate is ARCA compatible, it is ideal for use in a corresponding quick-release system. You can find more information on ARCA-compatible solutions under ARCA-compatible quick-release components.
With QD strap anchor mount, quick securing of your equipment
A practical detail that quickly proves invaluable in the field: the Kirk KLP-625 has an integrated QD strap mount, more precisely a QD strap anchor mount. This allows you to secure or release your camera-lens combination in no time on a suitable carrying strap, without fiddling around with carabiners or loops.
The lens plate is QD compatible, i.e. designed for the quick-detach system that has become established in the outdoor and professional sector. This lets you carry your long telephoto lens safely on a strap while you move and put it back on the tripod within seconds. To use the QD strap mount, you need a strap with QD strap anchors. You can find more information here: Straps with QD strap anchors.
Made in the USA, precise manufacturing and well-thought-out design
The Kirk KLP-625 is made in the USA, and you can clearly see this in the build quality. The edges are cleanly milled, the fits appear very precise, and the entire construction gives the impression that it is intended for long-term use under real-world conditions.
This is a lens plate that not only looks good on paper, but also works in everyday use with professional telephoto lenses. The combination of 6061-T6 aluminum, anodized surface and precise machining provides a reliable base you can count on even in demanding situations.
Anti-twist protection with removable lip, variably adjustable
One aspect many photographers underestimate until something goes wrong: anti-twist protection. The KLP-625 features a removable lip that serves as a variable anti-twist stop. This design prevents the lens from twisting on the plate when you pan, tilt or carry the setup.
The anti-twist protection is variable, allowing you to adapt it to the specific shape and position of the tripod collar. If you don’t need the lip at some point or prefer a different configuration, you can remove it and continue using the plate as a universal lens plate. This keeps your system flexible without sacrificing security.
Safety stop screws for more security in the quick-release clamp
On the underside of the plate there are 2 safety stop screws. These small components have a big effect: they prevent the lens plate from accidentally sliding out of the quick-release clamp if the clamp is not fully opened or becomes loose without you noticing.
This safety mechanism is extremely important, especially with heavy telephoto lenses, because uncontrolled slipping out of the clamp can quickly lead to expensive damage. With the safety stop screws, the plate remains guided in the clamp until you intentionally release it.
Through-threaded holes and flexible mounting options
On the underside of the Kirk KLP-625 you’ll find 3 through-threaded 1/4" UNC photo threads. These threaded holes open up additional mounting options for you, for example for accessories, alternative clamps or special solutions when you want to adapt your setup to particular requirements.
The through-threaded design makes it easier to use screws in different positions or to mount the plate on other supports. This way your system doesn’t remain rigid, but can be adapted to different tripods, heads or rails.
Dual dovetail design, stable fit and high compatibility
The dual dovetail design of the KLP-625 ensures a particularly stable fit in suitable clamps. The 38 mm dovetail clamping profile is designed so that it clamps reliably in a wide variety of ARCA-based systems while providing a large contact area.
This distributes the force more evenly, which is especially important with long, heavy telephoto lenses in order to minimize vibrations and achieve clean balance on the tripod head. Whether you’re shooting wildlife, sports or distant landscape details, this stable connection is the basis for sharp images at long focal lengths.
Practice-oriented design for professional telephoto photography
In practice, all this means: with the Kirk KLP-625 you get a universal lens plate that integrates seamlessly into professional telephoto setups. It is universally usable, QD compatible, ARCA compatible, lightweight and at the same time robust. The length of 15.8 cm offers enough leeway to balance the center of gravity of your lens-camera combination precisely, for example on a gimbal or fluid head.
Through the combination of removable lip for anti-twist protection, safety stop screws, through-threaded 1/4" UNC photo threads and the dual dovetail design, you get a tool that is not only technically well engineered but also simply works in everyday use. So if you’re looking for a stable, reliable base for your Nikon, Canon or Sigma telephoto lenses, this lens plate is a very coherent option for your online shop and, of course, for your camera bag.
