Kirk LP-67 replacement lens foot for Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS & FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS
Kirk LP-67 replacement lens foot for Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS & FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS
With the Kirk LP-67 you can get significantly more out of your Sony super-telephoto lenses without having to rebuild your entire setup. This replacement lens foot replaces the original Sony lens foot and turns it into a stable, ARCA-compatible base with an integrated 38 mm dovetail quick-release profile that simply proves itself in everyday use, whether in the stadium, in a hide, or somewhere between the airport and a dirt road.
The LP-67 is mounted directly in place of the original lens foot and simultaneously serves as a lens plate. The integrated 38 mm dovetail profile not only allows quick clamping into suitable quick-release clamps, but also offers you the option of securely and neatly attaching accessories such as flash brackets with a 38 mm clamp. This saves you additional plates, adapters and improvised solutions that tend to be more annoying than helpful at the decisive moment.
Specially developed for the following lenses
The Kirk LP-67 is not some universal compromise, but deliberately designed to be not universal. It fits exactly the following Sony telephoto lenses:
- Sony 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE [SEL400F28GM] (2018)
- Sony 600mm f/4 GM OSS FE [SEL600F40GM] (2019)
- Sony 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE [SEL400F28GM]
Thanks to this custom fit, the foot sits solidly and torsion-resistant on the lens. Nothing wobbles, nothing rocks, and the balance on the tripod head feels noticeably more harmonious than with many standard solutions. Especially with long focal lengths, where every vibration becomes visible, this solid connection makes a noticeable difference, particularly when you are working with high-resolution Sony bodies.
Precision from 6061-T6 aluminum, made in the USA
Made from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum and black anodized, the Kirk LP-67 offers a robust, everyday-ready surface that still looks good even after many uses in rain, dust, or in the stadium pit. The material is strong enough to confidently carry the load of a 400mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/4, yet remains pleasantly light at only 119 g so your overall setup does not become unnecessarily heavy.
With a length of 15.2 cm, a width of 3.8 cm and a height of 2.5 cm, the foot provides sufficient contact area for secure clamping and at the same time a comfortable feel when you carry the lens by the foot. The black anodized finish ensures a durable, unobtrusive surface that minimizes reflections and visually matches the Sony G Master lenses perfectly.
Arca-style compatible for quick changes and clean balance
The integrated 38 mm dovetail profile is, according to the manufacturer, fully Arca-style compatible and fits common 38 mm quick-release clamps. So if you work with an ARCA system, you can use the LP-67 directly without having to mount additional plates. You can also find notes on ARCA compatibility here: ARCA kompatibel.
This allows the lens to be switched in a flash between tripod, gimbal, video head or even a slider, without having to fiddle with screws every time. Especially in reportage, wildlife or sports, when sometimes every second counts, this kind of workflow improvement is worth more than you might think at first glance.
With QD strap socket for flexible carrying options
The Kirk LP-67 features a QD strap socket and is therefore QD compatible. This allows you to attach a suitable strap with QD anchors directly to the lens foot and carry the heavy telephoto lens safely, without having to rely solely on the camera strap. To use this socket, you need a strap with QD anchors; you can find more information here: QD Gurtanker.
Especially over longer distances, for example in outdoor nature photography or at sporting events, it is much more comfortable to carry the system by the lens. The load distribution feels more natural and relieves the camera mount, which in the long term also benefits the mechanics.
Well thought-out safety features with stop screws and photo threads
On the underside of the LP-67 you will find two photo threads: one 3/8" UNC and one 1/4" UNC. This allows you, if necessary, to screw the foot directly onto a tripod head or a quick-release plate if you ever want to work without an ARCA clamp or are using an older system.
In addition, 2 safety stop screws are integrated. These prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release clamp when the clamp is not fully opened. Practically speaking: even if, in the heat of the moment, you do not open the clamp completely or push the lens a bit too far forward, the system remains secured in the rail and does not simply slide out. This provides a good extra measure of safety, especially with expensive telephoto lenses where a fall is simply not an option.
Stable lens plate with integrated quick-release profile
The LP-67 simultaneously functions as a lens plate with an integrated 38 mm quick-release profile. This means you no longer need to mount an additional quick-release plate under the foot. This reduces the overall height, improves stability and ensures a more direct coupling between lens and tripod head.
The dovetail profile also allows the attachment of additional accessories, such as flash brackets or other mounts with a 38 mm clamp. This way you can build a compact, modular setup in which light, camera and lens are neatly aligned with each other, without having to work with wobbly extension arms or improvised mounts.
Practice-oriented design instead of universal compromises
The Kirk LP-67 is deliberately not universal, but tailored to the specified Sony FE super-telephoto lenses. This results in a clean fit, a well-balanced position on the tripod and a feel that simply works in everyday use. No unnecessary cutouts, no playful design experiments, but a functional lens foot that does exactly what it is supposed to do.
We see the LP-67 as a sensible addition for anyone who regularly uses their Sony 400mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/4 on a tripod, gimbal or monopod and values a reliable, Arca-style compatible solution that is also QD compatible. If you like your setup tidy, stable and quickly ready for use, this replacement lens foot will very likely fit well into your workflow.
