The neoprene used provides an insulating function and makes handling the lens more pleasant at low temperatures. In addition, the opening above the red dot makes mounting it on the camera quick and easy. For the extended zoom range, an additional segment is provided that can be quickly attached with a hook-and-loop fastener and just as easily removed when not needed.
