WWS lying camouflage tent (C31.1-E) for wildlife photographers & filmmakers Realtree Edge
Camouflage tent for low-angle wildlife photography in Realtree Edge design
Sometimes half a meter decides whether you get the shot of your life. This extra-long and low camouflage tent in the Realtree Edge camouflage pattern is built exactly for that purpose: for wildlife photographers and filmmakers who want to get as close to wildlife as possible without being noticed. The lens openings are deliberately positioned very close to the ground so that when lying down you work at eye level with foxes, kingfishers or deer, and your perspective no longer looks like a “Sunday stroll” but like real wildlife photography.
In some sample images the tent can still be seen in the older Realtree Xtra pattern, but the current model comes in the Realtree Edge design. This way, the camouflage tent blends into typical Central European vegetation, from autumn undergrowth to open forest edges. It does not look like a foreign object, but rather like another piece of shrubbery that just happens to stand exactly where you are shooting.
Wildlife Watching Supplies, professional workmanship from England
This camouflage tent is manufactured by Wildlife Watching Supplies in England, a company that has specialized for years in equipment for nature photographers. We would say: uncompromisingly professional sums it up quite well. This is not about camping romance, but about reliable tools for long sessions in the field.
The tent fabric is made of a robust cotton-polyester blend. This material is breathable, sealed and rot-proof, so that even with damp ground, fog or light drizzle you are not immediately sitting in your own condensation. The tabs are made from high-quality nylon fabric, as are the guy lines, resulting in a durable, weatherproof construction that does not lose its nerve at the first thorn bush.
The poles are made of extremely lightweight, high-strength and at the same time flexible aluminum. This keeps the tent stable on the one hand and pleasantly light to carry on the other, something you come to appreciate after a few hundred meters through the forest.
Realtree Edge camouflage pattern for unobtrusive wildlife photography
The Realtree Edge pattern was developed specifically to break up outlines and make you virtually disappear in typical forest and field structures. In undergrowth, along reed edges or at the forest edge, the camouflage looks surprisingly natural. Animals often react much more calmly because they do not recognize a clear silhouette.
Especially for wildlife photographers and filmmakers who work with long focal lengths and still want to be close to their subjects, this camouflage pattern is a real advantage. It helps you document behaviors that you can hardly observe from a distance. And yes, sometimes you simply sit for longer, so it is good if the tent does not attract attention and you can wait in peace.
Dimensions and weight, space for you and your gear
The footprint of the camouflage tent is 2.15 m x 1.25 m. This gives you enough space for one photographer and all their equipment, i.e. camera, telephoto lens, tripod or beanbag, backpack and a bit of provisions. The maximum height is 1.1 m. This is deliberately kept compact so that the silhouette remains low while still allowing you to work properly.
The tent is specifically designed for low-angle photography and working while lying down. You can stretch out comfortably, position the camera calmly and still remain low enough to shoot at eye level with many ground-nesting birds, small mammals or waterfowl. This perspective makes an enormous difference to the image composition and makes your shots look significantly more natural.
Self-supporting construction without spring steel
When setting it up, this camouflage tent relies on a self-supporting construction. You push the aluminum poles through the fabric sleeves and hook the ends into the brass eyelets at the tent corners. That sounds simple, and it is. Completely without spring steel that tends to be stubborn or annoying when packing.
Once the poles are in place, the tent stands stable on its own and only needs to be additionally guyed in severe weather. For this purpose, there are loops for tent pegs, not only on the outside but also on the inside of the tent. This allows you to secure it further in strong winds or on difficult ground without constantly having to reach outside.
Interior, pockets and low-angle work
The camouflage tent does not have a sewn-in floor. This may seem unusual at first, but it is very practical in use. You can choose your own groundsheet, such as a sleeping mat, a waterproof tarp or simply use the natural ground, depending on location and weather. This keeps you flexible, whether you are working at the forest edge, in a meadow or right on the shore of a body of water.
Practical pockets are sewn into the inner sides. There you can store memory cards, batteries, remote releases, a notebook or even a headlamp, without everything lying loose on the ground. Especially during longer sessions, when the tent gets a bit fuller, this helps you keep track more easily and avoids constantly groping around in the dark for small items.
Material details for outdoor use
The flysheet is made of a sealed, breathable, camouflage-colored cotton-polyester blend. This fabric is rot-proof and designed for long durability, even with frequent use in wet grass, on forest floor or near bodies of water. It protects you from wind and light moisture while also ensuring that the air inside does not immediately become stuffy.
The tabs are made from quality nylon fabric that remains stable even under tensile load. The guy lines are also made of nylon and are tailored to outdoor use. The tent poles, made of extremely lightweight, high-strength and flexible aluminum, combine low weight with high stability, which is a real plus on longer approaches or with frequent pitching and striking.
Transport and handling in everyday photo use
Packed up, the camouflage tent fits into a small, easy-to-carry carry bag. This compact form is ideal if you are out with a backpack, tripod and perhaps an additional camouflage net and do not want to lug around a bulky tent as well. The carry bag can be easily stowed in the car or attached to other gear.
Setup is quick: push the aluminum poles through the fabric sleeves, hook them into the brass eyelets, align the tent, done. This way you do not lose valuable time at dawn or dusk when the light is perfect and you really want to already be at your spot. The handling is deliberately designed so that you can easily manage it on your own.
Fields of use for wildlife photographers and filmmakers
This camouflage tent is primarily intended for wildlife photographers and filmmakers who work close to the ground. Whether you are photographing waders at a pond, shorebirds at the water’s edge, hares in a meadow or songbirds at the forest edge, the low profile and the lens openings close to the ground give you authentic, natural perspectives.
Thanks to the Realtree Edge camouflage pattern and the low silhouette, the tent is suitable for both open landscapes and structurally rich forest areas. You can use it for long-term projects at a feeding station, a hide or a game trail and use it there regularly without it immediately attracting attention. For video recording, the protected interior also offers the advantage that you can calmly align camera and microphone without constantly standing in the animals’ field of view.
