If you don’t just carry “a bit” of gear when hiking, but actually camera, lenses, clothing and small items for several days, the f-stop TILOPA 50L DuraDiamond™ backpack really plays to its strengths. The volume is 50 liters, the empty weight is 1.9 kg, and the color Cypress Green looks pleasantly understated outdoors. It is large enough for heavy setups, yet built so that you’ll still enjoy carrying it on longer routes. Not perfect for “just a quick trip”, but exactly right when things get serious.
Dimensions, fit and carrying comfort so it doesn’t annoy you on the trail
At 62.3 cm height, 34.8 cm width and 28.4 cm depth, the Tilopa is clearly designed as a travel and adventure backpack. The torso length is 39.5 cm, which plays an important role in the fit, especially when you pack the backpack full and want to keep the weight stable on your back. The shoulder straps and hip belt use dual-density algae-based BLOOM™ foam, which is clearly designed for comfort and support. You notice this especially when the day gets longer and your shoulders would otherwise start to complain.
DuraDiamond™ material, weather-resistant zippers and robust hardware
The DuraDiamond™ fabric is used exclusively by f-stop and is designed to be stronger, lighter and more weather-resistant. Outdoors this is not just marketing but simply practical, because the backpack can take more abuse without immediately feeling bulky. In addition, there are woven-in weather-resistant zippers, which in the revised version offer even better protection against the elements. The black heat-shrink tubing on the zipper pulls provides more grip, even with gloves or when everything is wet – one of those details you only miss when it’s not there.
At critical points, f-stop relies on T6 aluminum hardware, i.e. where load-bearing and attachment points really have to work. And on the front there is a welded-on Hypalon® front patch, made larger and welded to the fabric so that abrasion becomes less of an issue. Especially when setting the pack down on rock, gravel or a hut floor – yes, it happens.
ICU compatibility so you define the photo layout yourself
The TILOPA is made to be combined with the optionally available f-stop ICU inserts. It accepts ICU Micro Tiny, Small Shallow, Small Pro, Medium Shallow, Medium Slope, Large Pro, XLarge Pro or a combination of these sizes. This lets you adapt the interior to your camera gear instead of getting used to a fixed layout. Important so there are no surprises: the package includes the backpack without ICU; the photo insert must be ordered separately. Which ICU variants fit can be seen in the product images.
External pockets, front compartment and back panel organizer for small items that otherwise disappear
On the outside, the backpack offers pockets for water bottles and accessories, i.e. items you want to grab quickly without opening everything each time. The front pocket is specified as 25.4 cm x 45.72 cm plus an additional 16.51 cm x 11.43 cm, and the side pocket measures 15.24 cm x 38.1 cm. That sounds dry, but it helps you judge whether your bottle, filters or gloves will actually fit.
On the inside of the back panel there is an organizer with four pockets with magnetic closures, plus a padded pocket, also with a magnetic closure, as well as slots for memory cards and more. For batteries, cards, adapters – all the small stuff that would otherwise end up somewhere at the bottom. Magnetic closures are pleasant because you don’t have to fiddle with them every time, yet you still keep things organized.
Compression straps, flexibly removable and useful when packing
On the sides there are removable compression straps. This gives you flexibility, because you can use, reposition or leave them off depending on your setup. Sometimes you want tight compression, sometimes you need space for additional gear on the outside, and sometimes you just want a clean look. The Tilopa gives you that leeway without feeling improvised.
