MR JAN GEAR photo backpack Bertik IV
MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack for demanding outdoor photography
With the MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack you get a backpack that was clearly not built to sit in a closet, but for real tours, long days outside and photo assignments where you carry more than just a small camera. The backpack is designed for hiking, travel and professional photography and carries your gear in a way that lets you focus on the subject, not on your luggage.
The Bertik IV is generously sized without appearing bulky. It easily accommodates a 500 mm telephoto lens when no camera is attached and still offers space for additional lenses, a DSLR or mirrorless camera, accessories and personal items.
Thanks to its compact design, the dimensions of the Bertik IV comply with the carry-on regulations of most airlines.
The interior layout is highly variable. Various padded dividers (11 in 3 sizes) and removable pouches (5 in 2 sizes) are available. This allows the interior of the backpack to be optimally adapted to your equipment. The backpack has two large compartments and opens from the back. This keeps the carrying system clean and dry and allows easy access to your gear (even with the rain cover attached).
The front pocket is spacious and offers sufficient room for a laptop and accessories. However, we advise against storing a laptop permanently together with camera equipment in one backpack, as heavy camera gear and a sensitive laptop are a delicate combination.

Developed by photographers for photographers, practical down to the last detail
The two large main compartments can be clearly structured. For example, you can use one compartment for camera and lenses and the other for telephoto lens, filters, flashes or even food and clothing. The inner pouches with Velcro fasteners help you neatly organize small items such as memory cards, batteries, cables or radio triggers so you don’t have to rummage through the backpack later.
Made in Europe, robust quality and thoughtful workmanship
The MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack is manufactured in Europe and relies on durable materials that won’t give up quickly even with frequent use and changeable weather. The robust construction is designed for outdoor use, from the sturdy fabric and zippers to the large carrying handles. These are deliberately dimensioned so that you can safely grab the backpack even with thick winter gloves. Especially when hiking, when it’s cold, wet or just uncomfortable, this makes a noticeable difference.
With a weight of around 2.85 kg, the Bertik IV sits in the solid range for a full-featured camera backpack of this size and configuration. The external dimensions of around 55 cm height, 38 cm width, 23 cm depth at the bottom and 16 cm depth at the top provide a good balance between storage space and portability. Inside you have about 52 cm height, two times 17 cm width as well as 17 cm depth at the bottom and 13 cm depth at the top. That may sound technical on paper; in practice it means: lots of space but no unnecessary ballast.
Ideal for travel and hiking with a camera
Especially if you are on the move a lot, the MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack plays to its strengths. Thanks to its compact but tall design, it usually fits as carry-on luggage on airplanes, which is a real plus for travel photography and international trips. You always have your camera gear in sight, don’t have to check it in, and can start shooting right after landing without waiting for checked baggage.
When hiking, the carrying system ensures a comfortable fit even when the backpack is fully loaded. The back panel is padded and designed so that you open the backpack from the rear. This has two advantages. First, the carrying system stays clean and dry because you don’t lay it down in wet ground or snow. Second, you can easily access your gear even when the rain cover is mounted. Especially in changeable weather you don’t have to fuss around for long and can quickly reach camera and lenses.
The hip belt can be closed and opened with a CobraBuckle from AustriAlpin. These buckles are known for their reliability and stability and help you transfer the weight of the backpack from your shoulders to your hips. On longer tours, during trekking or on full-day photo hikes, this is a noticeable relief.
Flexible interior for large telephoto lenses and extensive equipment
The MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack is designed to safely transport large telephoto lenses as well. In addition to the option of storing a 500 mm telephoto lens without an attached camera, the backpack features a flexible divider and an additional mount for telephoto lenses. This keeps the long glass securely in place and prevents it from knocking against other pieces of equipment.
The padded dividers can be freely positioned with Velcro so you can configure your compartments exactly as needed. For example, you can create a long compartment for the telephoto lens and smaller segments next to it for camera body, standard zoom, wide-angle, macro or flash. The removable pouches with viewing window help you store accessories such as filters, batteries, radio triggers or cleaning kit while still keeping an overview. A quick glance is enough to see what is where.
Spacious front pocket with room for laptop and accessories
On the front of the MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack there is a flat but surprisingly generous front pocket. Here you can store maps, gloves, snacks, documents or even a light sweater. The pocket is also suitable as a temporary storage space for a laptop, for example if you want to quickly back up or edit images on the go.
However, we recommend not transporting a laptop permanently together with heavy camera equipment in the same backpack. The combination of sensitive electronics and massive glass is simply delicate. For short distances, for example from the car to the hotel or studio, it is usually unproblematic, but for longer hikes or flights a separate solution is often the safer option. Still, it is practical to have the option when you need it.
External attachment points for tripod, jacket and other outdoor equipment
The MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack comes with straps that allow you to attach additional gear to the outside of the backpack at a total of twelve possible points. This can be a tripod, trekking poles, a jacket, sleeping pad or an additional bag. Especially when hiking or on photo trips, when you want to react flexibly to weather and subjects, this expandability is very helpful.
The attachment points are distributed so that you can sensibly distribute your equipment without the backpack pulling to one side or becoming unbalanced. A tripod, for example, can be attached on the side or in the middle, while a jacket or rain cover can be fastened more towards the front. This keeps the weight close to your body and the backpack carries stably.
Rear access and weather protection for sensitive equipment
Access to the main compartment is via the back of the MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack. This means you place the backpack front-side down and open it from the side that rests against your back. As a result, the carrying system stays clean even when the ground is muddy, sandy or snowy. It may sound like a small detail, but it makes a big difference in everyday use, especially if you change cameras and lenses several times a day.
A black rain cover is included in the scope of delivery. It can be pulled over quickly and provides additional protection against moisture. The clever part: even with the rain cover mounted, you still have access to your gear because the rear access is retained. Especially during sudden showers or changeable weather you don’t have to remove everything first and can continue working relatively quickly.
Comfortable handling in everyday life and on tour
In addition to the shoulder straps and hip belt, the MR JAN GEAR Bertik IV camera backpack features large, comfortable carrying handles. These make handling easier when loading into the car, stowing on a train or quickly repositioning in the studio. Even with winter gloves you can safely grab the backpack without fumbling.
The overall concept of the backpack is geared towards practical use. The combination of variable interior layout, robust outer material, well-thought-out carrying system and clever details such as the many external attachment points makes the Bertik IV a reliable companion for nature photography, sports photography, wildlife photography or even longer city tours where you carry your gear with you all day.
