Kirk KLP-260 universal lens plate (66 mm) with QD mount
Universal lens plate for demanding photographers
With the Kirk KLP-260 universal lens plate (66 mm), you get a solid, pleasantly low-key solution for your telephoto and zoom lenses on board. The plate is universally usable, so it doesn’t just fit a single exotic lens, but sensibly covers a whole range of common telezooms and prime lenses. It features a dual 38 mm dovetail clamping profile made from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and is available either satin silver anodized or black anodized. The surface therefore appears robust, resistant and visually pleasantly understated – not a flashy eye-catcher, but rather a tool you can rely on.
With a length of 6.6 cm, a width of 3.8 cm and a weight of only 42 g, the KLP-260 remains pleasantly compact and lightweight. Nevertheless, it is stable enough to confidently support heavier lenses. On the underside you’ll find 2 x 1/4" UNC tripod threads, allowing you to attach the plate flexibly to different tripods or quick-release systems. The integrated anti-twist protection with variable stop ensures that your lens doesn’t slowly creep on the plate when you pan frequently or use the camera in portrait orientation.
Arca-style compatible for flexible quick-release setups
The KLP-260 is Arca-style compatible and, according to the manufacturer, fits Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps. If you already use a corresponding system, you can integrate the plate seamlessly and change your lenses without a lot of fiddling. For more information on suitable quick-release systems, take a look at our ARCA compatible section.
We’d say: especially if you frequently switch between tripod, gimbal and maybe even a slider, such a unified standard makes everyday life noticeably more relaxed. Once properly set up, it just runs in the background.
With QD strap anchor mount for quick carrying options
The Kirk KLP-260 features a QD strap mount, more precisely a single QD strap anchor mount that is QD compatible. This allows you to snap a suitable carrying strap with QD strap anchors directly into the lens plate. This is particularly practical if you prefer to carry heavy telephoto lenses by the lens rather than by the camera bayonet mount.
Important: To use this QD strap mount, you need a strap with suitable QD strap anchors. You can find corresponding solutions in our range under QD strap anchor mount. Once this is set up, you can detach or attach the strap with a single click, without having to screw anything on and off each time. Very unspectacular until you get used to it and never want to be without it again.
Made in the USA, precise manufacturing and well-thought-out design
The KLP-260 is made in the USA, which is clearly reflected in the workmanship. The combination of 6061-T6 aluminum and the cleanly executed anodized layer results in a durable, torsion-resistant lens plate that still looks good even after years of hard use. We’re not talking about a decorative accessory here, but a working tool that you’ll probably leave on your lens all the time.
The dual dovetail design allows secure clamping in compatible clamps and gives you a bit more leeway in positioning. Thanks to its universal design, you can use the plate on different lenses without having to buy a dedicated special solution for each piece of glass. Universal really does mean universal here: yes, the plate is designed to be used sensibly on a wide variety of lens feet.
QD compatible and ARCA compatible in practical use
In everyday use, QD compatible means you can use modern straps with quick couplers directly on the plate without inserting additional adapters. ARCA compatible, in turn, ensures that you can use the KLP-260 in a wide range of Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps. Together, these features make the plate a kind of central hub in your setup: strap, tripod, gimbal, monopod – everything attaches to the same base.
If you’ve been thinking about unifying your system for a while, such a universal lens plate is a very pragmatic starting point. No big fuss, but noticeably more comfort, especially if you frequently switch between handheld, monopod and tripod.
Compatible with Nikon, Sony, Tamron and Olympus / OM SYSTEM lenses
The Kirk KLP-260 universal lens plate is designed for a range of popular telephoto lenses. For Nikon F lenses, it is suitable, among others, for the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5–5.6G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR. For Sony lenses, it fits for example:
- Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS FE [SEL70200G] (2014)
- Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS FE [SEL70200G]
- Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS FE [SEL100400GM] (2017)
- Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS FE [SEL100400GM]
For Tamron lenses, the plate is designed, among others, for the Tamron 300mm f/2.8 LD SP AF (IF). And in the Micro Four Thirds segment, it fits, for example, the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED PRO, which is often used as a workhorse in the telephoto range.
Of course, depending on the lens foot and personal preference, other combinations may also make sense. The universal orientation of the plate allows you to operate different lenses on a unified system without having to completely re-plan everything each time.
Safety stop screws for added security
The KLP-260 is equipped with 2 safety stop screws. These prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release clamp if the clamp should loosen or if you pull a bit too vigorously on the camera while repositioning. It’s not a spectacular feature, but one of those small details you really appreciate when you’re out and about with expensive telephoto lenses.
Together with the anti-twist protection and the variable stop, this results in a well-rounded safety concept: the lens stays where you mounted it, and the plate holds reliably in the Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamp. This way you can focus on composition and timing instead of worrying whether your gear is about to slide down.
Thoughtful details for daily use
At first glance, the Kirk KLP-260 may look like a simple, small metal plate. On closer inspection, however, you’ll notice the many well-thought-out details: the precisely milled dual dovetail profile, the neatly placed 2 x 1/4" UNC tripod threads on the underside, the universal design for different lens types and the integrated anti-twist protection that can be adjusted variably.
We’d say this is a typical accessory that you mount once and then forget about in the best possible way, because it just works. No frills, no overblown marketing promises, but a solid, universal lens plate that fits into modern Arca-style setups, integrates QD strap mounts in a sensible way and, with its low weight of 42 g, hardly adds any weight – in the truest sense of the word.
