Really Right Stuff LCF-101 for SONY FE 100-400 mm F/4.5-5.6 GM OSS & FE 70-200 mm F/2.8 GM OSS & 300
Really Right Stuff LCF-101, the slim replacement foot for your Sony telephoto
Sometimes it’s not the big, expensive upgrades that make the difference in everyday photography, but that one small part that’s simply better thought out. The Really Right Stuff LCF-101 is exactly that kind of candidate: a precisely manufactured replacement lens foot with an integrated dovetail clamping profile, optimized height, and noticeably reduced weight, made for long sessions with heavy telezooms and prime lenses where you want to be able to rely on every detail.
The LCF-101 replaces the original foot of your Sony telephoto lens and comes with an ARCA-compatible profile right away, so you can skip additional quick-release plates. The result: a clean setup, less screwing around, more time for actual photography, whether wildlife, sports, action, or just a quiet evening with a tripod and long exposures.
made in the USA, precise manufacturing, robust materials
The LCF-101 is made from 6061-T6 aluminum, a high-quality, field-proven aircraft aluminum that offers an excellent balance of strength and weight. The surface is Type II black anodized, providing a durable, discreet, and low-reflection finish. You can tell the first time you touch it that this is not an off-the-shelf part, but something that has been cleanly milled and thoughtfully engineered.
With a weight of only 79 g, a length of 10.9 cm, a width of 5.2 cm and a height of 3.5 cm, your setup remains pleasantly light and compact. Especially on longer tours, when you often have the telephoto in your hand or on a strap, this reduction in mass makes a noticeable difference. It’s not a huge leap, but exactly that small advantage that adds up over the course of the day.
specifically developed for the following lenses, a perfect fit for your Sony teles
The Really Right Stuff LCF-101 was specifically designed for the following lenses and fits precisely to the respective tripod collars:
- Sony 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6 GM OSS FE [SEL100400GM] (2017)
- Sony 70–200mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE [SEL70200GM] (2016)
- Sony 70–200mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE [SEL70200GM]
- Sony 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6 GM OSS FE [SEL100400GM]
- Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE [SEL300F28GM] (2023)
This ensures the foot sits firmly and securely on your lens, with no play and no improvised in-between solutions. You get a clean, well-balanced setup on the tripod head, which is extremely helpful especially with long focal lengths and moving subjects. We’d say: if you’re using one of these Sony G Master lenses or the 300mm GM OSS and you’re working seriously with a tripod or gimbal, this replacement foot is almost a must-have.
Arca-style compatible, clamp directly, no extra plate
The integrated clamping profile of the LCF-101 is Arca-style compatible and thus suitable for a wide range of modern quick-release systems. According to the manufacturer, the profile fits into 38 mm quick-release clamps and works with a whole range of common manufacturers:
- Really Right Stuff screw clamps and Really Right Stuff lever clamps
- Wimberley clamps
- Kirk clamps
- Jobu Design clamps
- ProMediaGear clamps
- FlexShooter screw cross clamp
- other Arca-style compatible 38 mm quick-release clamps
If your tripod head or quick-release base is ARCA compatible, you can usually clamp the LCF-101 directly, without an additional plate or adapter. This saves height, weight, and potential points of failure. And yes, it simply feels good when the setup is so clean that you just have to click it in and you’re ready to go.
with QD strap socket, switch flexibly from tripod to strap
The LCF-101 has a QD strap socket, more precisely a QD strap anchor socket. This allows you to attach a compatible camera strap with QD anchors directly to the lens foot and carry your telephoto lens safely, without constantly having to reconfigure between tripod and carry setup. Especially on longer photo tours or when traveling, this is extremely practical because you can quickly switch between “tripod mode” and “reportage mode”.
To use this QD strap socket, you need a suitable strap with QD strap anchors. You can find more information about this here. Once you’ve used such a system, a lot of other solutions honestly feel a bit cumbersome.
Installation, from the original foot to the LCF-101 in just a few steps
Installing the Really Right Stuff LCF-101 is intentionally kept simple so you don’t have to spend a long time figuring things out:
- First, loosen the clamping screw on the original foot of your Sony lens. Once it is loosened, press the safety lever on the tripod collar and pull the original foot forward until it detaches completely from the collar.
- Then place the LCF-101 on the tripod collar from the front and slide it toward the camera body until the safety lever audibly clicks into place. When you hear the click and the foot sits properly, tighten the clamping screw again so everything is locked securely and without play.
That’s all it takes to swap the feet, and your lens is immediately ready for use with ARCA-compatible clamps and QD strap anchors. No special tools, no complicated adjustments, basically a quick operation you can also carry out on location if necessary.
Secure hold, safety stop screws and additional threads
The LCF-101 is equipped with 2 safety stop screws on the underside. These safety stop screws prevent the foot from accidentally sliding out of the quick-release clamp if the clamp is opened too far or not fully tightened. Especially with heavy telephoto lenses, this is a very reassuring detail, because a small operating error could otherwise become very expensive very quickly.
In addition, the foot has two tripod threads on the underside: 1 x 3/8" UNC tripod thread and 1 x 1/4" UNC tripod thread. This allows you to mount the LCF-101 directly on a tripod, a video plate, or other accessories that are not based on ARCA, if needed. This flexibility is useful if you use different systems in parallel or occasionally fall back on older tripod heads.
Thoughtful everyday design, stability, handling, compatibility
In practical use, the LCF-101 ensures a pleasantly low height between lens and tripod head, which improves stability and reduces vibrations. The integrated clamping profile is designed so that it sits firmly and securely in many Arca-style compatible clamps, without wobbling or tilting. At the same time, there is enough surface area to comfortably use the foot as a handle when you carry the lens or briefly balance it in your hand.
Because the foot is ARCA compatible and QD compatible, it integrates seamlessly into modern setups where you may already be using other ARCA plates, gimbals, or quick-release systems. You don’t have to rethink every time which plate belongs on which part; you can simply clamp your telephoto, lock it, and get started. It’s a small upgrade that you’ll notice again and again in everyday use—nothing spectacular, but consistently very helpful.
