Kirk LP-71 lens plate with QD mount for Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1

Kirk LP-71 lens plate for Canon RF 100-500mm, specially developed for this lens

You can tell immediately with this lens plate: the Kirk LP-71 is not just some universal solution, but truly specifically designed for this lens, the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM (2020). The contour and length of 10.16 cm are matched so that your telephoto zoom sits firmly and twist-proof, without wobbling or shifting with every little touch. Especially at long focal lengths, where the framing shifts just a tiny bit and the scene is already gone, this precise fit makes the difference.

The LP-71 replaces or supplements the original tripod foot of the Canon RF 100-500mm and provides a significantly more stable, photographically more sensible base. You get a solid, cleanly milled aluminum plate, black anodized, that feels like an integral part of the lens. No tinkering, no improvising with intermediate plates. Just mount it and get started.

For additional stability you can combine the lens plate with the optionally available Kirk LS-1 tele support module. In combination with the LS-1 tele support module, the Canon RF 100-500mm is supported even better, which during long sessions with tripod or gimbal noticeably results in steadier shots, especially when you are working with high resolutions and every micro movement becomes visible.

Precision by conviction, made in the USA

The LP-71 is made in the USA, and you can see that in the details. The cleanly milled edges, the precise fit, the uniform black anodized surface – it all feels very well thought out and not like a quickly cobbled-together accessory. We would say this is more a tool for serious photography than a mere accessory.

The aluminum material provides a robust yet pleasantly lightweight solution at only 54 g. With a width of 3.8 cm the plate offers enough contact surface for stable clamping without appearing bulky. The anodized layer protects the surface from corrosion and abrasion, so the plate still looks good even after many uses in the field, even if it ends up in wet grass or sand.

On the underside you will find two tripod threads: 1 x 3/8" UNC and 1 x 1/4" UNC. This allows you, if necessary, to screw the plate directly onto a tripod head or quick-release base, in case you are exceptionally working without an ARCA clamp or want to continue using older equipment. It is simply pleasant not to have to think with every setup: “Damn, this doesn’t fit together again.”

Arca-style compatible, versatile use in quick-release systems

The Kirk LP-71 is Arca-style compatible and therefore ideal if you work with an ARCA-based quick-release system. The clamping profile fits ProMediaGear clamps, Wimberley clamps, Really Right Stuff screw clamps, Really Right Stuff lever clamps, Acratech lever clamps, Acratech screw clamps, Kirk clamps, FlexShooter screw cross clamps as well as other Arca-style compatible (according to the manufacturer) 38 mm quick-release clamps.

If you are generally interested in ARCA compatible solutions and would like to expand your system, you will find suitable quick-release clamps and accessories under ARCA-compatible components.

Thanks to the standardized profile, you can switch your Canon RF 100-500mm in no time between ball head, gimbal, video head or flex head without having to realign or screw things on every time. Especially in wildlife, sports or reportage, when sometimes every second really counts, this quick change is worth its weight in gold.

With QD strap socket, QD compatible for flexible carrying options

A small detail that makes a surprisingly big difference in everyday use: the LP-71 features a QD strap socket, more precisely a QD strap anchor socket, and is therefore fully QD compatible. You can snap a suitable camera strap with QD strap anchors directly onto the plate without additional lugs, adapters or improvised mounts.

To use this QD strap socket, you need a strap with QD strap anchors. Suitable straps and anchors can be found under QD strap solutions, if you would like to upgrade your setup in this direction.

The advantage is obvious: you can safely carry the relatively heavy Canon RF 100-500mm by the lens instead of constantly pulling on the camera bayonet. This relieves the camera and distributes the weight more comfortably, especially on longer tours. Quickly release, snap in, switch – after a few uses you usually won’t want to miss this feature.

Safety and stability, well-thought-out design with safety stop screws

So that your equipment does not unintentionally go wandering in the quick-release clamp, the LP-71 is equipped with 2 safety stop screws. These safety stop screws prevent accidental slipping out of the quick-release clamp when the clamp is not fully opened but also not completely closed. Especially with tilted heads or when you are working a bit distracted in the heat of the moment, this is a very reassuring detail.

The combination of precise fit, ARCA profile and these safety screws ensures that your Canon RF 100-500mm remains reliably in position even during fast pans, minor knocks or on uneven ground. In practice this means: you can focus more on the moment and less on the fear that the lens might suddenly slide down.

In summary, with the Kirk LP-71 you get a well-thought-out lens plate that integrates your Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM in a stable, secure and at the same time flexible way into modern ARCA- and QD-based setups, without unnecessary ballast or complicated additional parts. Just mount it, adapt it to your way of working and go outside to do what it’s really about: taking photos.
