MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV photo backpack

MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV camera backpack, the backpack for every situation

Sometimes you just need a camera backpack that doesn’t argue, it delivers. The MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV is exactly that kind of candidate: robust, well thought-out, unfussy, and surprisingly spacious. Here you get a professional camera backpack that has been specially developed for large telephoto lenses and extensive photo equipment, without looking like you’re moving house.

The BORIS IV camera backpack is large enough to safely hold an 800 mm f/5.6 telephoto lens without a camera attached. At the same time, the external dimensions are chosen so that the backpack is accepted as carry-on luggage by most airlines. This is worth its weight in gold on flights when you’d rather not see your expensive super-telephoto lens again in the cargo hold.

With its construction, the MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV is ideal for hiking, nature photography, wildlife tours or longer reportage assignments. It is comfortable to carry, retains its shape and protects your gear even when the path gets a bit rougher.

Simple and good! Flexible interior layout for your photo equipment

Inside, the BORIS IV shows what it can really do. The interior layout is highly flexible and can be adapted to your equipment, not the other way around. You get a total of 11 padded dividers in 3 different sizes as well as 5 removable pouches in 2 sizes. This lets you sort camera, lenses, teleconverters, filters, batteries and small items exactly the way you need them, not the way some standard layout dictates.

The ergonomic dividers are designed to reliably secure even heavy super-telephoto lenses. A special support helps ensure that large telephoto lenses do not slip and are relieved while carrying. This is a real plus, especially with long focal lengths, because the weight is evenly distributed and nothing “floats” around in the backpack.

The removable pouches are perfect for accessories you sometimes want to use separately, such as filter sets, cables, memory cards or a small cleaning kit. You can simply take them out and reattach them when needed. It may sound simple, but in everyday use it’s extremely practical.

Optimal for travel, cabin-luggage compatible and well thought-out in detail

Especially when traveling, the MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV camera backpack shows its strengths. The external dimensions are tuned so that the backpack (as of 2017) is accepted as carry-on luggage by most airlines. This keeps your camera gear with you at all times, from check-in to landing.

The external dimensions are approximately 55 cm in height, 38 cm in width and 23 cm in depth. Inside you have around 52 cm in height, a divided width of 17 + 17 cm and 17 cm in depth. This may sound technical at first, but in practice it means: you can easily fit a large telephoto lens, several additional lenses, at least one camera body and various accessories.

On the front there is a flat, space-saving front pocket of about 45 x 35 cm. It is unpadded and therefore ideal for flat items such as documents, a thin notebook or tablet, notebook, reflector or even a light jacket. This front pocket is also designed to temporarily hold a laptop if you want a bit more flexibility on the go.

To keep the backpack protected while traveling, the BORIS IV comes with a nylon transport bag. This bag is useful if you want to give the backpack additional protection from dirt and scratches in the trunk, on the bus or on the plane, or if you simply want to pack it in a neutral cover.

Made in Europe, high-quality workmanship and durable materials

The MR JAN GEAR BORIS IV camera backpack is manufactured in Europe. You can see this in the details: neat seams, robust fabrics, well-designed padding. Nothing feels overloaded, but everything has its purpose. We’d say: more honest craftsmanship mentality than marketing fireworks.

The overall design has been noticeably improved compared to the previous model. Large, comfortable handles ensure that you can safely grab the backpack even while wearing gloves. This is a real advantage especially in winter or in the mountains, when you don’t want to take off your gloves every time just to move the backpack.

Another detail: there are no permanently sewn-on straps on the outside of the backpack that dangle around unnecessarily or get in the way. Instead, you’ll find 16 attachment points where you can add straps if needed to fasten additional gear to the outside, such as a tripod, a jacket, a sleeping mat or other outdoor accessories. You decide what goes on, and when.

Developed by photographers for photographers, practical handling in everyday use

With the BORIS IV you can tell that the people behind it actually travel with a camera and backpack themselves. The opening is on the back side, i.e. the side facing your back. This has two advantages: on the one hand, your gear is better protected against unauthorized access, and on the other hand, the back panel stays clean when you put the backpack down on the ground.

The back side is opened via two independent flaps. This means you don’t have to rip open the entire backpack every time, but can selectively open only the area where the gear you need is stored. The rest of your photo equipment remains protected and is not unnecessarily exposed to dust, sand or moisture.

The hip belt is equipped with a high-quality CobraBuckle fastener from AustriAlpin. This buckle is extremely strong, closes reliably and is easy to operate even with cold fingers or gloves. Especially on longer tours, the hip belt shifts the weight from your shoulders to your hips, which significantly relieves your back.

All in all, this creates a camera backpack that doesn’t just look good on paper, but proves itself in real use: on long hikes, in changeable weather, on flights or simply when quickly moving between location and car. Not a showpiece, but a work tool you can rely on.
