Leofoto VR-220 telephoto rail with Sachtler/Manfrotto dovetail profile
Leofoto VR-220 telephoto rail with Sachtler / Manfrotto dovetail profile
You usually only notice it when the setup gets really heavy: long telephoto focal lengths, a massive lens foot, a large camera, and suddenly everything is hanging off the camera mount. This is exactly where the Leofoto VR-220 telephoto rail comes in. It calms the system, distributes the load evenly, and ensures that you can focus on your subject instead of on creaking connections.
Stable support for long telephoto lenses
When you work with a telephoto lens that has its own tripod mount, solid support is practically mandatory. The VR-220 holds your lens via the lens foot and at the same time relieves the camera. At the rear end of the rail there is an adjustable mount with a 1/4-inch screw that is screwed into the 1/4-inch thread of your camera plate or directly into the camera thread. In this way, the tensile load that normally pulls on the mount is significantly reduced. That may sound unspectacular, but in practice it makes a remarkable difference, especially during longer sessions or continuous use.
Flexible mounting of lens and camera
The lens or lens foot can be mounted on the telephoto rail using either a 1/4-inch or a 3/8-inch screw. This allows you to securely mount both classic telephoto lenses and more professional cine or broadcast glass without having to search for special adapters. The lens sits firmly at the front, the camera is supported at the back, and the entire system feels noticeably more balanced, which you will immediately notice when panning and tracking moving subjects.
Direct mounting on Sachtler and Manfrotto video heads
The Leofoto VR-220 is designed to be mounted directly onto the tripod head, replacing the usual quick-release plate. You remove the existing plate from the head and insert the telephoto rail as a fully-fledged replacement plate. This saves time, reduces wobbly transitions, and ensures a consistently stable connection between tripod head, rail, lens, and camera.
Replaces common Sachtler and Gitzo plates
The VR-220 telephoto rail replaces several common plate types that you may already know from your existing setup. It can be used in place of the Sachtler Sideload Plate and also takes over the function of the Sachtler Touch & Go Plate. For the Touch & Go version, you use the adapter included in the scope of delivery so that everything fits precisely and locks securely. In addition, the rail replaces plates of the Gitzo Type C. This allows you to continue using your existing video tripod system while switching to a well-thought-out telephoto solution without having to completely overhaul your entire equipment.
Compatible with Sachtler FSB and Manfrotto video heads
With the VR-220, even heavy camera-lens combinations can be mounted on various Sachtler tripod heads. These include models such as FSB-6, FSB-8, and FSB-10 as well as the FSB-6T, FSB-8T, and FSB-10T variants. You can also use the telephoto rail on suitable Manfrotto video heads. The result: a stable, balanced unit that pans smoothly and does not tend to oscillate even at longer focal lengths. Especially if you work in wildlife, sports, or reportage, this combination of stability and mobility makes a lot of sense.
Robust aluminum construction
The profile length of the underside is 22 centimeters, and the width is 5.0 centimeters. This gives the VR-220 enough contact surface for large lens feet and cameras without being unnecessarily bulky. With a weight of 365 grams, the rail remains pleasantly light, fits easily into a camera bag, and still carries heavy setups without any problems. It is made of high-quality aluminum, which offers an excellent balance of rigidity and weight. The surface is black anodized, which not only looks classy but also protects the rail from scratches and corrosion. This anodizing ensures that the VR-220 still looks good and works reliably even after frequent mounting and dismounting, transport in a backpack, or rough outdoor use.
Relieves the mount and improves balance
By combining lens mounting with additional camera support, the load is better distributed. The camera mount is noticeably relieved because the weight is no longer hanging from a single point. Instead, the system works like a small bridge that carries camera and lens together. This leads to a more stable connection, less play in the system, and a significantly steadier image, especially for video recording or long exposure times. At the same time, you can adjust the position of camera and lens on the rail so that the center of gravity is optimally positioned above the tripod head. This makes fine adjustment easier and prevents the head from unintentionally tipping forward or backward.
Practice-oriented design for photo and video
In daily use, the well-thought-out design of the VR-220 becomes apparent. You can place it directly on your video or fluid head without needing additional adapter plates. The lens and camera are guided cleanly, and the rail itself acts like an extended lens foot that gives you more flexibility in positioning. This stable base really pays off, especially for video recordings with long focal lengths where every tiny jerk is visible in the image. But it also benefits photography, for example when shooting wildlife from a hide or at sporting events, where you profit from smoother camera handling and better balance.
Ideal for demanding telephoto setups
Whether you are working with a fast 300mm, a 400mm, or an even longer telephoto: the Leofoto VR-220 telephoto rail is designed to carry such combinations with ease. It helps you mount your equipment securely on Sachtler or Manfrotto video heads, replaces common quick-release plates, and at the same time provides reliable support for camera and lens. So if you frequently work with heavy telephoto lenses and are looking for a stable, practical solution that integrates seamlessly into your existing tripod system, this telephoto rail is a very well-matched addition.
